A large number of ISDMs already exist but their value has been questioned and at the same time new methodologies continue to be introduced in an attempt to support and improve the practice of information systems development work. What is not always clear from current studies is that ISDM is a multi-perspective and cross-discipline phenomenon. Although a large amount of knowledge of ISDM is available, different disciplinary interests have resulted in fragmented assessments of it. This paper intends to identify theoretical perspectives applied in the conceptualization of ISDM. A review of the literature on ISDM was conducted and four different theoretical perspectives were identified: 1) system, 2) structure, 3) innovation, and 4) knowledge. While each perspective provides various overarching depictions of ISDM, the synthesized view of ISDM provided in this study reveals the complexities and ambiguities of a multifaceted phenomenon such as ISDM. Suggestions for an alternative conceptualization of ISDM are provided in an attempt to facilitate the investigation of ISDM.","PeriodicalId":93486,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... This case study will apply Gersick's (1991) adaptation of punctuated equilibrium for understanding the change process within the context of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system implementation. The punctuated equilibrium model depicts system changes as alternating equilibrium periods, only allowing for incremental change; and revolution periods, whereby the structure is changed fundamentally. By examining these stages of the punctuated equilibrium model, the hope is to further the understanding of how to manage a change process by highlighting one organisation's successful implementation of an EMR system.","PeriodicalId":93486,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... With an increasing focus on broader international adoption and implementation of electronic health records, research examining performance impact resulting from system use will play an essential role in the successful design, implementation, and efficient use of these systems. In this study, we analyse user evaluations of an electronic health record system and assess the impact on self-reported, perceived individual performance using the task-technology fit theory. Overall, user evaluations for the eight dimensions of task-technology fit considered in this study are positive.","PeriodicalId":93486,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... The experience of a small hospital located in the Persian Gulf that integrated an outpatient physician order entry and billing system offers several lessons. First, IT can enable transparent pricing such that clinicians can make real-time treatment decisions that include treatment cost as a criterion. Second, a focus on pricing transparency alters the integration trajectory for healthcare information systems. While IT may enable price transparency in the examination room, technology is limited in addressing the ethical underpinning of its use.","PeriodicalId":93486,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... This case is a labor strike that occurred against IBM by Italian employees and a large European labor union. We begin with identifying the four key elements in the protest organizing process: Identifying Supporters, Organizing and Establishing Hierarchy, Getting the Word Out, and Building Solidarity/Establishing Social Networks. Next, we briefly examine how non-virtual technologies have changed the protest organizing process. Finally, we present our case data and illustrate how moving a protest to a fully virtual environment changes the organizing process. We conclude by asserting that three aspects fundamentally change protest organizing: entertainment, costs, and culture.","PeriodicalId":93486,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ...
