Materials and methods This descriptive, analytical, cross-sectional study was performed among patients with lead poisoning, who were referred to Baqiyatallah Hospital of Tehran, Iran during 2016-2017. Results The study population consisted of 200 patients, including 32 females (14%) and 168 males (86%), who were referred to the Poisoning Department of Baqiyatallah Hospital during 2016-2017. The blood lead level of patients ranged from 9μg/dL to 180μg/dL. Overall, 18% of patients suffered from muscular weakness (peripheral neuropathy), and 95% had a history of oral opioid use. Conclusion Based on the findings, lead poisoning should be taken into account in opioid addicts, experiencing abdominal pain and constipation. Considering the high rate of poisoning following the oral use of opioids, it is recommended to refer addicts to addiction treatment clinics and provide them with psychiatric counseling. Infants and young children exposure during breast feeding can have a negative impact on adulthood. For this reason, some scientists express reservations on the benefits of lactation, despite the World Health Organization (WHO) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) continue to recommend breastfeeding. However, the human milk is the best way to monitor the level of exposure of these substances in the environment and in the food. This study studied the levels of Polychlorinated Dibenzodioxins, Polychlorinated Dibenzofurans (PCDD/F) and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) in human milk in the Italian region of Lazio, which includes the provinces of Rome, Rieti, Viterbo, Latina, Frosinone, and correlated them with eating habits and residence of the donor mothers. We found no difference in Dioxins and PCB levels in human milk among the provinces of Lazio, with the exception of Rome, and no relationship between the levels of contamination detected in the milk and eating habits, confirming previously published literature. The levels of PCDD/F were compared with data obtained in other European countries between 1998 and 2015. We found a reduction of POPs in human milk compared to what has been detected in recent years in Italy and in other European countries and we conclude that the strict rules and the official controls in order to restrain the diffusion of those substances into the environment and into human food are gradually getting good results.","PeriodicalId":93103,"journal":{"name":"HSOA journal of toxicology : current research","volume":"139 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79913808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fish samples were obtained from two fish farms; A (Al-Batts drain) and B (El-Wadi drain), El-Fayoum governorate, Egypt. 16 components of PAHs concentration were determined by GC-MS. Results showed that the total concentration of PAHs recorded16.2 and 7.4 ppb sample of Aand B-smoked mullet fish products, respectively. Also, levels of Benzo [a] Pyrene (B {a} P) equivalent were 0.0378 and 0.029 ppb in A and B-products, respectively. Besides, content of Low molecular weight (LMW) components was higher in A-smoked mullet product than medium MW and vice versa in case B-smoked product however, high MW was not detected in products. In conclusion, PAHs concentration in smoked products processed from pre-frozen mullet samples for 6 months at -18°C are considered a minimally contaminated (16.2 ppb) for A-smoked product and not contaminated (7.4 ppb) for B-smoked product compared with recommended levels. In addition to the component of Benzo [a] Pyrene (B {a} P) was not detectable in all smoked fish products.","PeriodicalId":93103,"journal":{"name":"HSOA journal of toxicology : current research","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86366301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
