It is also known that these health concerns are much greater for minority students who attend high school in economically depressed cities. While it has been well-established that exercise is an effective intervention for these health concerns, there are no established outcome measures to quantitatively assess athletic performance and injury prevention training interventions in this population. Previously, we have demonstrated the utility of Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) as a robust outcome measure following ACL reconstruction. Functional Movement Screening (FMS) has been used as a tool to determine injury risk in female collegiate athletes. Since these tools are broadly available, we completed a research study of urban underrepresented minority and suburban female high school athletes, to assess the feasibility and utility of these tools to measure changes in this population during 10-weeks of athletic training. No adverse events of the training or study were reported. A Kaplan-Meier assessment of the data revealed that there was high student retention throughout the 10 weeks. In addition, we found no difference in weekly attendance between the students that completed the intervention vs. the dropouts (while they were in the program), indicating that the students were highly motivated to attend when possible. While no significant differences were found for fatigue and physical function, the intervention significantly improved anxiety, peer relationships, pain interference, and trended towards significance for depression (p<0.05). In terms of physical performance, bench press, combined Pro Agility, and total FMS were all significantly improved (p<0.05). Surprisingly, there were 10 students (67%) in peril of sports- related injury (FM˂14) at the start of the intervention, and all but 1 (90%) eliminated this serious risk factor. Collectively, these results demonstrate the feasibility of PROMIS and FMS outcomes to assess the efficacy of physical training interventions, in underrepresented minority female high school students, which warrants investigation in a formal prospective study.</p>","PeriodicalId":92940,"journal":{"name":"Orthopedics and sports medicine : open access journal","volume":"3 2","pages":"255-258"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7007986/pdf/nihms-1065312.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"37628520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A distinctive feature of therapeutic physical culture in comparison with other methods of healing, treatment and rehabilitation is that it uses physical exercises as the main therapeutic agent applied in accordance with the objectives of treatment, taking into account the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, functional state of the body, the degree of general physical performance [3]. This method uses a kind of natural innate quality of a person physical activity, which is the main stimulator of the growth, development and formation of the body processes [4]. In the past, medical and surgical care was directed only to the treatment of diseases. It is now universally recognized that sufficient attention must be paid to the consequences of diseases.","PeriodicalId":92940,"journal":{"name":"Orthopedics and sports medicine : open access journal","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69690684","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are several conditions which are misdiagnosed as chronic lateral ligament injury. In this review we highlight the common conditions that can mimic chronic lateral ligament injury and can cause persistent ankle pain after lateral ankle sprain. An outline to diagnose and treat these pathologies is also discussed, to resolve the diagnostic and treatment dilemma in most of the patients, but this problem still remains unresolved in a few patients.","PeriodicalId":92940,"journal":{"name":"Orthopedics and sports medicine : open access journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46391502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hamstrings muscle injury is one of them. The game of soccer is body contact and intermittent nature. Most of the hamstring’s injury occurred due to less stretchable and strengthening ability of the muscles. Therefore, this injury appeared by non-body contact situation even though game has body contact difficulty. Muscle strength is one of the key factors in high performance and is an important indicator of the effectiveness of injury prevention in athletes [1,2]. However, one of the most used methods to assess muscle strength balance between dominant/ non-dominant and antagonist/agonist is isokinetic testing [2,3]. Therefore the sports scientist wants to develop a number of muscle strength methods especially lower limb strength. The hamstrings are a collection of muscles and their tendons at the back of the upper limb. The muscles bend the knee joint, adduct the leg, and extend the thigh to the rear end of the body. Strength of the hamstrings muscle alone is not the only main factor in injury prevention. The strength ratio of hamstring to quadriceps (H:Q) is necessary to provide sufficient development process for playing without injury. Quadriceps is naturally robust than the hamstring. So that, sometime this can overpower their hamstrings. This imbalance of hamstring to quadriceps strength ratio is often the reason of hamstrings injury [4,5]. Hamstring to quadriceps the highest torque strength ratio (H:Q) is one of the most usually assessed. To examine the functional capacity, the ratio of strength (H:Q) of agonist to antagonist knee muscles has been used [1].
