The role of the physician was to function as the leader of the team while the athletic trainer Abstract Purpose: The professional basketball player presents a unique challenge that must be approached with a conceptual lens between the sports medicine and sports performance staff. Methods: The author used a combination of subjective and objective methods to determine the primary clinicians on the sports medicine staff. The sports performance staff was also investigated using the standards set forth by respective organizations such as the NSCA. Lastly, data and frameworks were combined to come up with a new integrative algorithm in caring for these specific athletes. Results/Conclusion: Results indicated the sports medicine staff consists primarily of physician, athletic trainers, and physical therapists. The sports performance staff consists of a strength and conditioning specialists (CSCS), obtained through the NSCA. The key components of the conceptual framework were Communication, Collaboration, and being open to Feedback for optimal performance healthcare. Applications to sport: The professional basketball athlete invests time, money, and energy into their career. Similarly, organizations/teams are continually looking for ways to increase the standard of care for their athletes, especially with the amount of investment trending into millions of dollars. Through seamless integration and constant communication, the sports medicine and performance staff can create a novel, better framework in caring for their athletes.","PeriodicalId":92940,"journal":{"name":"Orthopedics and sports medicine : open access journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47744369","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It occurs commonly in young adult males. The most common pathology encountered in the early phase is Bankart’s lesion. Arthroscopic trans glenoid suture capsulorrhaphy is an effective alternative for Correcting the pathology of anterior and anteroinferior shoulder instability. Objective: To present the outcome of arthroscopic Bankart’s repair using Caspari’s technique. Methodology: It is a prospective cohort study conducted on 54 patients that undergone arthroscopic Bankart’s repair for recurrent shoulder dislocation at National Orthopedic Hospital, Dala and Habeeby Orthopedic Clinic, Kabuga, Kano from March 2015 to February 2021. Cases were recruited through the surgical outpatient department, SOPD. Instability was assessed pre- and post-operatively using the Rowe Score. The instability shoulder index score (ISIS) was used as predictive tool for arthroscopic treatment while the Western Ontario Shoulder Instability Index (WOSI) and the Walch-Duplay scores were used as functional outcome measures. Data were captured using Microsoft excel worksheet and analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 for windows. Results: Fifty-four patients were studied with an average age of 25.0 +/- 5.4 years and M: F of 8: 1. All were posttraumatic with a mean frequency of dislocation of 5.2 +/- 3.0 per week before surgery. All the patients had positive apprehension test. The average duration of hospital stay was 5 +/- 2days. The average pre-operative instability shoulder index score (ISIS) was 2.1 +/- 1.5. The Rowe scores showed statistical improvement after operation with P <0.001. The average pre-operative Western Ontario Shoulder Instability Index (WOSI) Score and Walch-Duplay scores equally improved to with P < 0.001 at 2 years of follow up. There was no recurrence after 2 years of follow up. Caspari’s technique is cost effective as two strands of polyester 5 sutures cost 1.4% of the price of two anchor sutures. Conclusion: Caspari’s Technique gives good to excellent functional outcome in recurrent","PeriodicalId":92940,"journal":{"name":"Orthopedics and sports medicine : open access journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45673685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They comprise approximately 20% of all hospital-associated infections (HAIs) and are the secondmost common type of HAIs in the United States [1]. A previous study showed that SSIs were the most common nosocomial infection in surgical patients and were responsible for 38% of all infections within that category [2]. Surgical site infections lead to prolonged hospital stays, adjunctive procedures, and additive costs [3]. SSI rates are an indicator of the quality of surgical and postoperative care, which calls for the need of increased surveillance systems for these infections.","PeriodicalId":92940,"journal":{"name":"Orthopedics and sports medicine : open access journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43663253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
