Although these medications are considered safer than benzodiazepines, both act on GABA-A receptors as an allosteric modulator. In clinical practice, the risk profile for both medications is not any different, particularly in substance use disorder population. The safety risk is more alarming due to possible abuse, dependence and tolerance related issues in this population. Physicians should be careful while prescribing these medications and if indicated, its use should be limited over brief period of time and close patient monitoring is recommended.","PeriodicalId":92903,"journal":{"name":"HSOA journal of addiction & addictive disorders","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45801002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sample and methods: Convenient sampling was used to select research sample consisting (N=300) adult males. Participants of study included 150 drug users and 150 non drug users, selected from different areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi including rehabilitation centers, psychological clinics and few offices. The age of participants ranged from 25-35 years. Informed consent was taken from participants before filling the questionnaires. The research protocols were administered to participants along with verbal in-structions. They included demographic sheet, Aggression Scale, Self-Reported Delinquency Scale and Drug Abuse Screening Test (DAST-10). The data from this method was tabulated to conclude the results of research using SPSS software. Reliability analysis, Correlation, t test and regression analysis were used to test hypotheses of the study. Data was statistically analyzed by statistical package for social sciences (SPSS23 V). Results and conclusion: The results showed that aggression and delinquency were positively correlated with each other whereas delinquency was positively correlated with drug use. Aggression also had a positive relation with drug use. These findings are in line with previous research findings. Results further explained that drug use act as a moderator among aggression and delinquency for male adults. Moreover, the results indicated that drug users have significantly high rates of aggression as compared to drug non-users. Similarly, drug users are higher in delinquency as compared to drug non-users. Suggestion: The sample of the study was selected only from Is- lamabad and Rawalpindi. For future studies, corporate evaluations among several cities can be conducted with a good sample size.","PeriodicalId":92903,"journal":{"name":"HSOA journal of addiction & addictive disorders","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46765540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is limited knowledge about attitudes regarding naloxone from the views of patients potentially at risk for overdose in addition to first responders who administer naloxone. Methods: This cross-sectional survey investigates the attitudes of first responders and chronic pain patients on opioid medications to better understand their perceptions of naloxone administration. El-igibility for patients included: ages ≥18, chronic pain (3 months or longer), and currently taking opioid medications. First responders were identified through the statewide EMS association in Penn - sylvania. Data collected included demographics, psychosocial characteristics, and perceptions on naloxone administration. De- scriptive and univariate statistics were calculated to characterize both cohorts and assess their attitudes on the efficacy of naloxone administration. Results: A total of 237 participants completed the survey (120 chronic pain patients and 117 first responders). Patients were sig nificantly more likely (96%, P=<0.001) than first responders (56%) to agree that providing naloxone to first responders would save lives. While 30% percent of patients (N=37) agreed that distrib uting naloxone would encourage people to use even more opioid analgesics, there were nearly twice as many (N=69; 60%) first re - sponders who agreed with this statement (P=<0.001). Conclusion: These data help to characterize and highlight the dif- ferences of the perceptions and attitudes of chronic pain patients and first responders towards naloxone administration, illuminating critical areas of health education. Further, these data can help in form the field to identify areas of training for both first responders and chronic pain patients.","PeriodicalId":92903,"journal":{"name":"HSOA journal of addiction & addictive disorders","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44080591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
