{"title":"Novel protocol for reversing prediabetes and diabetes without medications: The 3-hour post-meal glucose testing","authors":"M. Patient concerns : Diabetes has become a worldwide plague; its prevalence continues increasing without end in sight. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness, renal failure, lower extremity amputations, peripheral neuropathy, and so on. It is also a major contributor to coronary artery disease, strokes, erectile dysfunction, and premature deaths. Expenses related to diabetic care and patient suffering are staggering. In most cases, patients need to be on medications for life. Diagnosis: Diagnosis and follow-up of diabetes is usually done with A1c hemoglobin. Interventions: A 3-hour post-meal glucose testing protocol, not previously reported, is described to control and reverse type 2 diabetes. A 3-4year observation of one individual who used this novel protocol is included. Outcomes: Using the 3-hour post-meal glucose testing protocol, a 58-year-old male reversed early prediabetes (A1c = 5.7) and has been able to maintain a normal A1c of 4.7 on a non-diabetic diet without any caloric restrictions 3-4 years later. Conclusion: A 3-hour post-meal glucose testing is proposed for prediabetic or diabetic patients to find what fats or meals are blocking their insulin receptors, so that the offending meals and fats can be avoided, and insulin resistance can be reversed. In this period, it can be argued that there has been an increase in the online search about the COVID-19 infection, disease prevention or treatment methods. We investigated the Google research trends in searches of alternative treatment methods during the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey. Methods: The Google Trends TM (GT TM) was used to retrieve data on Internet user search activities and patterns of Google search queries. We searched most known keywords related to alternative and herbal therapies such as thyme, sumac, ginger, tonics, propolis, Vitamin D, Vitamin C and Zinc in GT TM between January 1, 2020 and May 5, 2020 in Turkish. Results: According to the GT TM analysis of Turkey as of the indicated dates, there have been an intensive search for COVID-19 and treatment methods in March. It was determined that the searches related to the molecules mentioned above peaked at different times and then the search interest decreased. It was also found that the level of social interest decreased with the prolongation of the pandemic period about COVID-19. In many countries, the second wave has already struck and is being tackled with some experience gained from the first phase. With the loss of innumerable human lives so far, it is felt that the modern or conventional system of medicine alone may not be enough to tackle this colossal problem, particularly in countries with a huge population and with inadequate or limited medical infra-structural facilities like adequate number of modern life-saving devices and hospital beds. Therefore, other suitable treatment methods might be needed to supplement the existing facilities. Convincing evidence-based data collected recently from different disciplines of traditional, integrative and complementary and alternative medicines (TICAM) open up the possibility of successful integration of certain systems into the mainstream or modern medicine regimens, at least as supportive or adjunct medicines to give more benefits of amelioration to the ailing mankind. India has unmatched alternative system of medicine in the form of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy, which is now jointly referred to as AYUSH, recognized by the Government of India. Siddha medicine is one of the oldest and well documented medical systems of India. Retrospective studies revealed that Siddha medicines are used for prophylaxis and to treat viral diseases such as chicken pox, mumps, influenza, dengue etc. No specific drug is available till date to combat the rapid spread of COVID19. Further, exploring every possible treatment option will be of greater significance. Siddha medicine such as Kabasura Kudineer is recommended officially by the government for clinical management of viral infections. Data from on-going clinical trials of Kabasura Kudineer for improving the symptoms of COVID-19 are awaited with much interest. Other sources including bone marrow and adipose tissue have been explored as possible sources of mesenchymal stem cells but have not been able to demonstrate greater effectiveness than PRP formulations. Bone marrow stem cells are concentrated into what is known as bone marrow aspirate concentrate. The formulation has been studied, but hasn’t demonstrated level 1 evidence of effectiveness in musculoskeletal injury treatment. Abstract Objectives: Patients now have longer life expectancies and more active lifestyles which is driving the growth and use of regenerative medicine. Definitions of regenerative medicine (RM) vary, with much of the public having an incomplete understanding of what regenerative medicine means or the science behind these therapies. The purpose of this study was to assess patient perceptions and understanding of the role of regenerative medicine in treating musculoskeletal problems. Methods: This cross-sectional study consisted of an anonymous self-administered survey designed to assess patient perceptions, knowledge and attitudes toward regenerative medicine and its application in sports medicine of 150 participants. The demographic information and participant’s knowledge and conceptions of regenerative medicine were surveyed from patients in an orthopedic surgery department at a single institution. Descriptive statistics were used to report survey data. Analyses were performed based on demographic variables using independent t-test and an analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results: Of the survey takers, 70% viewed RM therapies positively. Participants with a positive view scored significantly higher in all aspects of the survey including effectiveness in the clinical setting (p<0.05) and the likelihood to use or recommend RM therapies (p<0.05). Older Participants (over 54years) scored higher for basic knowledge on RM (3.63; p=0.02). Participants with personal experience with RM had a more positive response when asked if it helps their condition (3.87 vs. 3.38; p=0.01) and were more comfortable recommending it to others (3.83 vs. 3.41; p=0.04). Conclusion: Overall, participants had a moderate level of understanding and positive perception of the effectiveness of RM therapies. Our results showed participants had a positive view of these treatment modalities despite the literature not supporting the effectiveness of these therapies. Bhela Samhita is one of the prominent texts of the samhita period of Ayurveda (100 BC-400 BC) and it consists of 120 chapters divided among 8 sections. ‘Indriya sthana’ (which deals with prognostic aspects) is one among the eight sections of ‘Bhela samhita’ which comprises of 12 chapters. ‘Purva rupeeyam’ is the sixth chapter of ‘Bhela indriya sthana’, having 17 verses dealing with various signs and symptoms seen at the prodromal stage of diseases and leads to death at later stages. Proper knowledge of the conditions explained in ‘Purva rupeeyam’ chapter enables the physician to detect life threatening diseases at earlier or prodromal stages which further helps in clinical prognostic decision making. Studies on ‘Bhela indriya sthana’ have been lacking and the present work is aimed to explore the contents of ‘Purva rupeeyam’ (sixth chapter) of ‘Bhela indriya sthana’. Various conditions such as internal haemorrhage, Cancer-related fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome, congestive heart failure, multiple system atrophy, upper respiratory tract infections and their complications, life liver renal and liver disease, hepatorenal syndrome, hepatic encephalopathy with visual hallucination and non-beneficial treatment at end of life stages are documented in this chapter by ‘Maharshi Bhela’.
