AR affects between 10 and 25% of people worldwide, including 10–15% of children and 26% of adults in the United Kingdom. Sneezing, nasal itching, rhinorrhoea, nasal congestion, ocular symptoms (irritation and lacrimation), non-productive cough, Eustachian tube dysfunction and chronic sinusitis are all symptoms of AR. AR can be characterised as seasonal (hay fever), perennial, intermittent, persistent, or occupational, depending on the allergens and the pattern and frequency of symptoms. Asthma and conjunctivitis are significantly associated with AR. A clinical history and physical examination are the most important processes in diagnosis. Skin tests can be used to confirm the diagnosis of AR. Patients with AR may experience changes in their everyday activities, emotions, and sleep habits, to the detriment of quality of life. Early detection and treatment can ameliorate the unpleasant effects of AR. Management includes medication, avoidance of exposure to environmental allergens and when appropriate, measures to help with associated asthma and sinusitis. Psychological interventions can also help in the management of AR.","PeriodicalId":92790,"journal":{"name":"InnovAiT","volume":"24 24","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135042461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, this is one of the factors contributing to the higher risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), pregnancy and sexual abuse amongst people with an LD/ID. A GP can help to advocate for and support patients with an LD/ID to make informed and safe decisions related to their sexuality. This article, based upon a clinical case scenario, highlights the sexual health education needs of people with an LD/ID, as well as issues around STIs, contraception and safeguarding.","PeriodicalId":92790,"journal":{"name":"InnovAiT","volume":" 12","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135192868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is only recommended for occasional use, and patients should be advised regarding regular and preferably long-term contraception if suitable. The request for emergency contraception is a frequent presentation in general practice. Around 40% of pregnancies worldwide are estimated to be unplanned, and a significant proportion of unplanned pregnancies result in termination, leading to avoidable distress. Therefore, it is paramount that healthcare professionals understand the available methods of emergency contraception. This article will cover the available methods, looking at their indications, use, efficacy, risks, and benefits.","PeriodicalId":92790,"journal":{"name":"InnovAiT","volume":"288 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135475475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Every child in the United Kingdom should have a health visitor from as early as the antenatal period and have several planned contacts during the first five years of their lives. It is therefore imperative that GPs have a sound understanding of the role and responsibilities of health visitors and how they can work together most effectively. This article will outline the origins of health visiting, the role of health visitors today, and provide an example of how a strong partnership between health visitors and GPs is essential in primary care.","PeriodicalId":92790,"journal":{"name":"InnovAiT","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135634466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
