Although there is no known pattern of communication perspective regarding numerous health risks involved in self-medication of anti-malaria drugs in Nigeria setting especially as more than half of the entire population relay on self-medication because of poor healthcare system. This paper reviews and evaluates the relative merits of two approaches to health risk communication of anti-malaria drugs on patients in Nigeria. One approach relies on the presentation of numerical information regarding the probability of a health problem occurring annually despite the claim of malaria eradication, whereas the other relies on the presentation of information about the antecedents and consequences of a health problem. Because people have considerable difficulty understanding and using quantitative information on the anti-malaria leaflets, the effectiveness of interventions that rely solely on numerical probability information has been limited. Interventions that provide people with a broader informational context to think about a health problem have had greater success systematically influencing perceptions of personal risk but have several important limitations. However, before any final conclusions can be drawn regarding the relative merits of different health risk communication strategies, investigators must agree on the specific criteria that should be used to identify an effective intervention. The finding pre-supposes a recurring pattern of approach to health risk information based on the peculiarity of recent interventions in the health sector","PeriodicalId":92767,"journal":{"name":"Clinics of surgery","volume":"11 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88736163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two recent guidelines have acknowledged a limited evidence base to guide fluid assessment. A recommended means to assess hypovolaemia includes assessment of fluid responsiveness. Fluid responsiveness is a rise in stroke volume following an increase in preload, achieved using a fluid challenge or a passive leg raise. However, the means of defining fluid responsiveness and its ability to identify patients who would benefit from fluid resuscitation is currently unclear.","PeriodicalId":92767,"journal":{"name":"Clinics of surgery","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80781486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: Nine hundred and eighty patients with Open Hepatectomy (OH) and 198 patients with LH were matched on the propensity score by 2:1. The incidences of postoperative hypoalbuminemia and the usage of ALB injection on different Postoperative Days (POD) were compared. Preventive and risk factors of hypoalbuminemia were screened by logistic regression. Receiver Operator Characteristic (ROC) curve and nomogram were established to predict postoperative hypoalbuminemia. Result: 175 patients of LH and 296 patients of OH were matched. The usage of ALB injection was significantly lower in the LH group than those in the OH group (60.0 vs. 75.3%, P=0.000; 6.71 ± 6.99 vs. 8.62 ± 7.18 g, P=0.005). The incidences of postoperative hypoalbuminemia in the LH group were significantly lower than those in the OH group (62.3 vs. 78.4% (P=0.000) on POD 1, 51.4 vs. 71.6% (P=0.000) on POD 3, 37.1 vs. 51.4% (P=0.003) on POD 5, and 27.4 vs. 39.9% (P=0.006) on POD 7). Preoperative serum ALB level and Serum Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) level was identified as independent protective and risk factor of hypoalbuminemia after LH, respectively. Preoperative serum ALB level below 42.95 g/L and serum ALT level above 28.50 U/L were identified as the reliable cut-off value to predict postoperative hypoalbuminemia after LH. A nomogram for predicting the probability of hypoalbuminemia after LH was established. Conclusion: LH with a reduced intravenous ALB supplement was still associated with a lower incidence of postoperative hypoalbuminemia.","PeriodicalId":92767,"journal":{"name":"Clinics of surgery","volume":"991 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77133279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
