Many treatment are now available and laser represent a new powerful option. The aim of this work is assess the histological effect of a new type of non-ablative laser, Solid State Vaginal Laser (SSVL), on vaginal tissue in women treated for GSM. Method: Eighty participants with GSM symptoms were treated with a total of 4 treatments in a two months timeframe (every 15-20 day) of a non-ablative SSVL (LASEmaR 1500TM EUFOTON). Vaginal biopic samples were collected before the start of the first treatment and after 4 weeks from the last one and an analysis of histological characteristics was conducted. A cumulative intensity of GSM symptoms using a 10-cm VAS (dryness and/or burning and/or dyspareunia), the vaginal health index (VHI), the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UI SF) were also evaluated. Results: Improvement in vaginal histological parameters for atrophy was demonstrated following the SSVL treatment. Amelioration was observed in order of thickening of the derma surface, phenomenon of glycogenic acanthosis, increased number and highness of papillae in chorion and in term of reduction in the inflammatory tissue infiltrate. Was also observed on VHIS, VVA symptoms and sexual female function. Conclusion: The evaluation of histological results indicates a favorable effect of SSVL on vaginal atrophy in GSM in terms of epithelium restauration as well as on inflammatory infiltration of the tissue.","PeriodicalId":92223,"journal":{"name":"International journal of women's health and wellness","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85905028","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent estimates suggest that by year 2100, 400 million individuals or 3% of the world population may be alive as a result of IVF and other fertility treatments. The developments within infertility treatment using techniques and procedures that evolved from initially animal and lately human research are enormous. Some of the technological advances in reproductive medicine have also contributed to developments and treatment possibilities in other fields of medicine. This mini review article aims to briefly describe and summarize the developments seen in this fascinating field of medicine over the past 40 years.","PeriodicalId":92223,"journal":{"name":"International journal of women's health and wellness","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73128278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Triplenegative breast cancer is a subtype with significant clinical implications because of its poor prognosis and aggressive behavior. It has distinct imaging features, often presenting as a mass with typically benign features on mammography and ultrasound and more suspicious findings on magnetic resonance imaging. Triple-negative breast cancer also has unique treatment limitations, with these cancers lacking molecular therapeutic targets expressed by other breast cancer subtypes. Fortunately, Triple-negative breast cancer is very responsive to neoadjuvant chemotherapy, which is the mainstay of treatment for these patients. Patients with triple-negative breast cancer are more likely to achieve pathologic complete remission, which is associated with improved survival. Despite this, patients with triple-negative breast cancer have an overall poorer prognosis compared to other subtypes, especially in the first few years after diagnosis. As this subtype accounts for up to one-fifth of all breast cancer cases, a thorough understanding of the unique imaging features of triple-negative breast cancer, as well as the role of imaging in predicting response to therapy and long term patient prognosis, will allow all involved clinicians to more effectively care for these patients.","PeriodicalId":92223,"journal":{"name":"International journal of women's health and wellness","volume":"65 9 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77879250","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was to assess the feasibility and advantages in a group of young women suffering from bowel endometriosis. Patients and methods: Over one year, 227 women were recruited for this prospective randomized study on fast track protocol for laparoscopic surgery for bowel endometriosis. Patients were allocated to a perioperative fast-track or conventional care in a 1:3 ratio and clinical outcomes and costs were evaluated. Results: Clinical outcomes and re-admissions within thirty days were homogenous between the two groups. Direct and indirect costs were significantly lower in the fast track group (p < 0.5). Discussion: A fast track protocol for laparoscopic surgery for bowel endometriosis can be applied in referral centers providing a direct impact on clinical management and a definite economic advantage.","PeriodicalId":92223,"journal":{"name":"International journal of women's health and wellness","volume":"167 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84991471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and methods: Women with normal MRI of the breast upon initial examination and subsequent breast MRI within intervals of maximum 2 years were included. Benign and malignant lesions as well as the tumor stages were reported and analysed. Results: 8.975 MRI were performed in 2333 women. 6642 exams were subsequent MRI (2.85 follow-up MRI/woman). Within the examination intervals, 290 (4.37% per follow up exam) lesions categorized as MR-BIRADS 4/5 were found in 272 patients. All of these findings were clarified by percutaneous biopsy. Histology revealed benign findings (B1/B2) in 151/290 (52.1%), B3-lesions in 24 (8.3%), and malignant tumors (B5a/B5b) in 115 cases (39.6%). Open biopsy revealed an intraductal carcinoma in 36/115 cases (G1: 11, G2: 16, G3: 9), and an invasive breast cancer in 79/115 cases. Tumor stages of the invasive carcinoma were pT1a (17/79; 21.5%), pT1b (39/79, 49.4%), and pT1c (22/79; 27.8%). Only one invasive cancer was classified as stage pT2. The average size of all invasive tumors was 9.0 mm. Rate of nodal negative invasive cancer was 95.9%. Rate of interval carcinomas was less than 2%. Conclusion: The performance of repetitive MRI of the breast at intervals of maximum 24 months allows the reliable detection of breast cancer at an early stage (pTis, pT1a, pT1b, pN0) with an excellent prognosis.","PeriodicalId":92223,"journal":{"name":"International journal of women's health and wellness","volume":"100 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90065659","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
