Therefore, HELLP syndrome is one of the most feared complications. Objective: Establish the relationship between plasma LDH levels and the presence of schistocytes in peripheral blood smears, as well as clinical symptoms and lab results present in this syndrome. Materials and methods: Descriptive observational study of cut longitudinal, with the clinical records of hospitalized patients with HELLP syndrome in the University Hospital of Los Andes (IAHULA) Merida-Venezuela, period 2011-2021, in a sample of 148 patients with the inclusion criteria. Results: Average age of 27 years, the majority between 26 and 35 (40%). 56.8% presented epigastric pain, 63.5% exalted tendon reflexes, 75% headache, phosphenes in 45.9%, and tinnitus in 39.2%. The mean of LDH was 768.1 I/U and schistocytes were found in all these patients, systolic blood pressure of 141-160 mm/Hg (40.5%), and 56.1% diastolic pressure between 91 and 110 mm/Hg. In 63.5% platelets levels were below 100,000 mm3. It was found that Lactate Dehydrogenase equal to or above 600 IU/l is a risk factor for patients developing HELLP syndrome, who had 6.9 times more likelihood of peripheral blood smear with schistocytes. Conclusion: LDH is important in the follow-up of patients with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, and its elevation above 600 IU/l, associated with symptoms such as epigastralgia, headache, tinnitus, and phosphenes, is an indicator that a HELLP syndrome has been established.","PeriodicalId":92223,"journal":{"name":"International journal of women's health and wellness","volume":"59 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75158682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It affects adolescent girls and adult women. In Guinea, violence against women is a widespread phenomenon. Indeed, 9 out of 10 women aged from 15 to 64 have been victim of at least one act of violence. The objective of this study is to explore the perceptions of women in the community about the violence that they have undergone. Methods: It is a qualitative study using focus group discussions (FGD) with women aged 15-49 in three health districts. Results: Of the 18 FGD conducted, young women aged 20 to 24 were the most represented (33%). The main types of Gender-based violence include physical violence, sexual violence (rape) and verbal violence. These types of violence are committed by husbands and boyfriends as well as parents of young girls in a context of forced marriage. The consequences of this violence are injuries, unwanted pregnancies, induced abortions, woman humiliation, depression, divorce and abandonment of the children by the husbands. Women’s attitudes to this violence are essentially to remain silent for fear to be stigmatized, health care seeking and filing complaints to the gendarmerie/police or to the leaders of district and notables. Conclusion: GBV is recurrent in Guinea in all its forms. The perpetrators are intimate partners, family members and unknown aggressors. This phenomenon requires sustained attention of the authorities and a commitment of all the stakeholders in order to highlight the problem and make advocation for women so that these acts of violence can be reduced.","PeriodicalId":92223,"journal":{"name":"International journal of women's health and wellness","volume":"68 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75650051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Method: The authors conducted a survey among all students of a medical university in Tokyo between October 15 and 27, 2015, using anonymous self-administered questionnaires. The questionnaire assessed cognitions about 18 stress factors in student life, the premenstrual symptoms screening tool (PSST), menstrual-associated symptoms (modified Menstrual Distress Questionnaire: mMDQ), psychological distress (the Kessler 6), menstrual cycle, age, grade, height, weight, smoking and drinking habits, exercise habits, and eating habits. Results: We had 56 (13.6%) moderate to severe PMS, and 10 (2.4%) participants were considered PMDD cases in 412 responded. Among PMS group (moderate to severe PMS/ PMDD) there were compared with the health group (No/mild PMS) significantly many who felt stressed by interpersonal relationships, changes in climate and physical condition, menstruation and physique. In the MDQ, too, complaints about pain, difficulties in concentrating, behavioral changes, autonomic reaction, water retention, and the tendency toward depression pronounced. We could not detect any direct relationships between abnormal menstrual cycles and life habits (smoking, drinking, exercise, and eating). Conclusion: Approximately 16% of our female medical students suffer from moderate to severe PMS/PMDD and constantly perceive not only interpersonal relations but also their own physical condition and body shape as excessively stressful. For us, the medical staff, the PMS such as public health issue in this field is of paramount importance, and is felt urgent by female doctors.","PeriodicalId":92223,"journal":{"name":"International journal of women's health and wellness","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91299729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
