It also demands attention from individuals in both low and high-carbon emitting countries, as well as within and across sectors (education, energy, agriculture, transportation and urban planning). Rather positively though, education has a ripple effect that goes beyond the individual learner and has the potential to build greater environmental enlightenment and concern amongst family members and communities. Accordingly, education (formal, informal and non-formal) would also help individuals and communities build resilience and lessen their vulnerabilities to a rapidly changing climate. Hence, this paper explores the barriers that impede enhanced climate change education with a view to helping surmount them and enlighten learners and communities at large, on the dangers of climate change and strategies of minimising human activities that bring about or accelerate climate change, even as communities get sensitised on resilience measures. Accordingly, the barriers to effective climate change education as determined by this review are inadequate political leadership, low eco-literacy levels, cognitive challenges, scepticism of scientific evidence, misinformation and disinformation of facts about climate change, limited knowledge and skills to impart to learners during climate change instruction, moral and behavioural challenges and psychological and social barriers. It is thus, recommended that salient aspects of climate change be integrated into teacher-training curricula worldwide and policies be enacted aimed at mitigating scepticism and disinformation concerning climate change. Furthermore, coordination of efforts between the private sector, government, community members and civil society to promote climate change education is strongly recommended together with the adoption of transformative learning that results in perspective and behaviour change","PeriodicalId":92053,"journal":{"name":"International journal of social science research","volume":"249 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136209280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The government’s steps have seen to be experiencing inconsistency, ambiguity, and counter productiveness in handling the Covid-19 pandemic issue. The material objects in this study are government statements quoted by three online mass media, namely kompas.com, tribunnews.com, and detik.com, which were published from March to May 2020. There were twelve selected media articles from these media. The text was analyzed using critical discourse analysis. This research uses a qualitative approach with a critical paradigm. The research data is processed using Habermas’ communicative action theory where the validity of a communication is tested through 4 validity claims, such as truth, sincerity, comprehensibility, and legitimacy. The results of the study explained that from 12 news containing 31 government statements, found 10 confusing statements, 6 erroneous statements, 7 false impressions and 8 illegitimacy and inaccuracies. This shows an indication of the government’s inability to act communicatively, especially in the aspect of comprehensiility claims that lead to information distortion. A multistage sampling procedure was used in selecting 200 students from two public universities in Southwest Nigeria. A quasi-experimental design and descriptive survey-type research design were used to investigate the impact of customised software ( Kollit ) on 200 students randomly selected for the study. Two hypotheses were raised. The instrument for data collection was the Students' Oral English Proficiency Test (SOEPT). The Cronbach Alfa method was used to establish the reliability coefficient for SOEPT, which was found to be 0.68. A One-Way Analysis of Variance was utilised to test the hypotheses at a 0.05 significance level. The study results indicated a significant increase in academic performance on the part of the students after implementing the customised software. The findings suggested that the customised software could improve the performance and evaluation of students in the Test of Orals. One of the negative impacts is cases of gadget addiction in children, both young children and teenagers. The rise in cases of gadget addiction in the world, especially in Indonesia, has a bad influence on students. Most students in Indonesia, especially in rural areas, when they reach the age of 12, stop reciting the Koran, but things are different in one of the villages in Purwakarta Regency, Kiarapedes District, namely Cibeber Village, in the village These alpha generation children are still very enthusiastic about taking part in the recitation, this is an attraction for researchers to find out what factors make the alpha generation in Cibeber Village very enthusiastic about taking part in the recitation. This research uses a qualitative approach by collecting primary data using interviews with alpha generation children, parents and Koran Koran teachers in Cibeber Village, Kiarapedes District, Purwakarta Regency. The results of the research show that the alpha generation's enthusiasm for reciting the Koran in Cibeber Village occurs because of motivation from teachers, friends, themselves, and parents as well as because of the existence of a healthy environment and the underlying factors that the alpha generation in Cibeber Village is not addicted to gadgets because there are several areas in the village. As both texts and items are integral to reading, it is crucial for a study investigating the pattern of item difficulty across different text types; narrative and expository, to be conducted. To determine item difficulty, five commonly assessed reading subskills were identified. They were understanding explicitly stated information (ESI), references (REF), deriving word meaning (VOC), understanding main idea (MID) and making inferences (INF). To obtain a more accurate representation of subskills, eight sets of reading tests consisting a large number of items (n=177) were used. This was made possible through the use of common item linking technique based on Rasch measurement model. The findings show that subskill ordering for narrative and expository vary slightly, indicating that there is no definitive ordering of individual subskills across text types. However, the patterns for low order (LOSs) and high order subskills (HOSs) are observed to be similar. LOSs are consistently less challenging than HOSs in both text types. Nonetheless, for LOSs, despite showing the same ordering, they are comparatively more challenging in expository. Subskills within HOSs, however, do not show any particular patterns. The study concludes that reading is made up of LOSs and HOSs as mooted by experts despite the subskills not showing definite ordering. Additionally, determining subskill difficulty is complex as a number of variables need factoring in. An implication from this is that awareness of elements influencing reading comprehension difficulty is important so that measures could be taken to minimise problems associated with reading.","PeriodicalId":92053,"journal":{"name":"International journal of social science research","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135426984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although awareness of plagiarism is commonly provided in many ways, students still commit it. Hence, the study was conducted with two objectives which are to determine the source of students’ knowledge on plagiarism, and to investigate the reasons for students committing plagiarism despite having knowledge on this matter. This quantitative research employed an online survey using a Google Form, which was distributed to the students via WhatsApp. The sample was obtained through purposive sampling. It consisted of 143 undergraduate degree students from a public university in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The data gathered was analysed using Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) for the descriptive analysis. The findings revealed that majority of the students knew about plagiarism and the punishment for committing it. Most of them also disagreed that they plagiarised because of the reasons stated in the questionnaire. The findings suggest that they may not commit plagiarism, or they may commit plagiarism for other reasons that were not stated in the questionnaire. Therefore, a qualitative study should be conducted to provide more insights into why students commit plagiarism.","PeriodicalId":92053,"journal":{"name":"International journal of social science research","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135345120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
