For this purpose, an initial taxonomy of emergency cases and sub-cases handled by a variety of FR teams has been defined along with a core set of associated rich media annotation templates to enrich captured video footage with commonly-agreed alert signs and messages. The primary aim is to define a fully-functional, extensible and self-descriptive visual language for fast and self-explanatory emergency communication. FRs on site equipped with mobile devices (PDAs) are able to quickly author content enriched video alerts to effectively communicate the arisen situation to their Command centers using the subsequently proposed video annotation prototype. Both qualitative and quantitative system evaluation in lab tests and field trials with the participation of real end users prove the effectiveness of the proposed system.","PeriodicalId":91990,"journal":{"name":"... Each user selects a desired throughput and seeks to fulfill it by accessing the channel following an aloha-like protocol. Then, the users participate in a non cooperative game wherein they adjust their transmit rate to attain their desired throughput. In order to enlarge the rate feasible region, we introduce a power diversity scheme coupled with a Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio-based capture. We extend many known results found for single power case. For instance, we have shown existence of two Nash equilibria where one is strictly better for all the users. Next, we propose two distributed algorithms where we discuss the available information versus the convergence speed. Extensive simulations are provided to validate our results.","PeriodicalId":91990,"journal":{"name":"... International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies. In [1], the classic channel coding techniques were shown to be suitable, in particular conditions, instead of quantum error-correcting codes, for correcting errors that occur during the exchange of a cryptographic key between two authorized users. To this end, systematic parallel concatenated codes, also known as turbo codes, were proposed in [1]. In this paper we address the properties that the systematic parallel concatenated codes must have in order to be successfully used in a QKD protocol. In particular, we address the problem, not considered in [1], that the constituent codes used in the parallel concatenation scheme must be such that the information sequence cannot be easily recovered from the encoder output sequences. In fact, the parallel classical channel on which to transmit only the redundancy bits is highly reliable but also public, i.e., very vulnerable as far as the attack attempts of a possible attacker are concerned.","PeriodicalId":91990,"journal":{"name":"... The algorithm was tested and evaluated for its efficiency in front of samples obtained from the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database and the results are also presented here. The algorithm used was based on a genetic algorithm based on abstract data types and was implemented in MatLab. The results showed that the detector can be implemented in systems for detecting arrhythmias and may become a tool to improve medical care treatment that is provided to patients with cardiovascular problems.","PeriodicalId":91990,"journal":{"name":"... Generally speaking, security protection of body sensor network relies on key distribution protocols. Most existing key distribution protocols are designed to run in general wireless sensor networks, and are not suitable for body sensor networks. After carefully examining the characteristics of body sensor networks, we propose an Elliptic Curve Diffie Hellman version of Symmetric Hash commitment before knowledge protocol (ECDH-SHCBK). Thanks to ECDH-SHCBK, dynamically distributing keys becomes possible. As opposite to present solutions, this protocol does not need any pre-deployment of keys or secrets. Therefore, compromised and expired keys can be easily changed. This protocol exploits human users as temporary trusted third parties. We, thus, show that the human interactive channels can help us to design secure body sensor networks.","PeriodicalId":91990,"journal":{"name":"... UWB technology has a potential to provide real-time image transmission from inside to outside of human body owing to its inherent features. However, it suffers from large attenuation together with shadowing in human tissues. In view of this distinctive property, a diversity scheme is expected to provide an effective improvement on this wireless link performance. Based on finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) numerically-derived in-body to on-body characteristics, we derive probability density function (PDF) for combined communication channels with two different approximation methods and compare their accuracy at first. Then we calculate average bit error rate (BER) with pulse position modulation (PPM) and on-off keying (OOK) modulation scheme to clarify the possible diversity effect.","PeriodicalId":91990,"journal":{"name":"... The assessment and treatment of chronic wounds include monitoring color and size (area or volume) at regular intervals by an expert. This evaluation is often based on qualitative observation and manual measurements of the wound (using a caliper or tracing methods). Over the last two decades, several researchers have focused on developing technologies to assess the clinical improvement of chronic wounds. This article aims to provide a survey on imaging technologies applied to chronic wounds. Their accuracy, precision, reliability, ergonomics and usage are compared. In general terms, the survey aggregates the different methods into 3 groups: planimetric techniques, volumetric techniques and color classification. Finally, a discussion is provided on open topics and what progress needs to be done in this area of research. Among other key points, vision-based technologies for wound assessment should emphasize clinical validation, correlation of clinical findings with quantitative metrics and application to tele-dermatology.","PeriodicalId":91990,"journal":{"name":"... An audiometry is the standard way of analyzing the hearing of a patient in order to diagnose hearing loss. From a video sequence recorded during this test, the method will be able to detect the instants when the expert is sending the auditory stimulus and when the patient responds consciously to it by raising his hand, being able, this way, to measure its reaction time. The proposed method was tested on several video sequences from different individuals yielding highly accurate results. The possibility of quantitative measure the reaction times will allow the experts to conduct several studies and to further complete the evaluation of their patients.","PeriodicalId":91990,"journal":{"name":"...
