Adhikary","doi":"10.4038/ijms.v9i2.161","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.4038/ijms.v9i2.161","url":null,"abstract":"This research article focuses on the ethical problems of Magda, the protagonist, and narrator of John Maxwell Coetzee's novel In the Heart of the Country. Here Magda, a white spinster, has been presented as an immoral and hypocritical woman. In the beginning, she hates the immoral activities of her father and wants to struggle with him for the sake of her own identity. Later, she is involved in an illegal sexual relationship with her black servant, Hendrik. She becomes ready to destroy the lives of black servants, Hendrik and his wife Anna because of her racial prejudice and hypocrisy. Magda forgets her ethical values and widens the gap in her relationship with others. By applying qualitative research, the researcher had taken the novel In the Heart of the Country as a primary text and analyzed it from the perspectives of ethical criticism, basically the ethical theories of Emmanuel Levinas. This research demonstrates how ethics and morality are required for a correct understanding of Coetzee’s‘In the Heart of the Country’. In it, ethics and morality are essential to solve the mystery of the self and others. The self-and-other conundrum will remain difficult unless we assign ethics and morals to this story. Magda's egotism is revealed in her attitude toward others and herself. She's worried about the horror that her involvement in apartheid's white criminality, as well as her seduction of her servant, has instilled in her. From the study, the researcher concluded that Magda is responsible for her downfall and falls in disgrace because of her hubris. It is due to the fact that racism causes an ethical crisis in South African society.","PeriodicalId":91884,"journal":{"name":"International journal of current multidisciplinary studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81834984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was carried out to find the factors which determine the Productivity of Rubber Smallholdings (PRSs) and to find out the strategies for enhancement. A questionnaire survey was conducted in 2019, using stratified random sampling. Descriptive statistics and Spearman’s correlation analysis were employed in the methodology. The average PRSs is 905 kg/ha/year on dry rubber basis, which is far below in potential to the average of 2500 kg/ha/year. The majority of rubber smallholdings are in the category of low rubber productivity. Key socio-economic factors; gender, age, level of education, experience of rubber farming, membership of the Thurusaviya rubber society, age of the trees and type of clone did not affect to the PRSs, while fulltime rubber smallholders showed a positive relationship. The number of tapped trees in the land, number of tapping days per year and practice of self-tapping system positively correlated with PRSs while extent of rubber holdings was negatively correlated. The participation in training programmes, instructions given by experienced rubber smallholders and by extension personnel and utilization of CDs and leaflets on tapping and manuaring were positively correlated with PRSs. The adoption level of manuaring and tapping practices in rubber smallholdings affected the PRSs. It is also evident that effective strategic extension plans which include formulating appropriate policy measures, especially focusing on utilization of extension communication channels and mass media, development of rubber smallholdings and adoption of manuaring and tapping practices of rubber farming would eventually improve PRSs for the future for the improvement in performance of rubber farming in Moneragala District.","PeriodicalId":91884,"journal":{"name":"International journal of current multidisciplinary studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87182396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, the goal of this study is to encourage and enhance ethical behaviour among employees, as well as to foster a strong professional ethics culture inside organizations. In this sense, the study's goal is to accomplish three objectives. First, it explains what professional ethics is and how it affects an organisation. Second, the article emphasizes the importance and necessity of cultivating an ethical culture inside a company. Finally, the study investigates how employees’ attitudes influence workplace ethics and some implications are derived from the findings. Secondary data sources such as journals, articles, books, research papers, and websites were used in this study, which was mostly performed using a qualitative research approach. The study's findings indicate that employees' attitudes have an influence on organizations' workplace ethics. According to the findings of this study, professional ethics is essential for any organization to establish and sustain a strong and ethical culture among its employees. Therefore, managers should focus not just on achieving corporate goals while fostering meaningful working relationships, but also on encouraging ethical behaviour among employees.","PeriodicalId":91884,"journal":{"name":"International journal of current multidisciplinary studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88258745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Detergent residue in collection tubes is thought to be the reason for uncertain results in the recent past. This raised a concern to evaluate the effect of washing of the specimen collection tubes by various detergents on serum creatinine, aspartate transaminase (AST), Na + and K + . Three sets of newly purchased glass Khan tubes were washed using Teepol, Lysol (concentration of 1%), and sodium hypochlorite (0.1 %) adhering to World Health Organization protocol. Blood from a single donor was aliquoted to a detergent washed tubes (test) and to a newly purchased plain glass Khan tube (control). Both were tested for serum creatinine, AST, Na + and K + . A sample size of 20 was analyzed for each detergent-washed tube. There was no significant difference in serum creatinine, AST and K + when Teepol, Lysol or sodium hypochlorite washed tubes were used in sequence (p>0.05). Na + concentrations measured in serum was significantly different in specimens collected to Lysol-washed tubes (p<0.05). The Lysol-washed tubes were significantly contaminated with detergent residues. In conclusion, domestic detergents (Teepol, Lysol and sodium hypochlorite) don’t impart a significant effect on tested analytes if the cleansing is done according to guidelines by World Health Organization. However, newly purchased tubes are recommended in critical investigations such as serum electrolytes to improve the accuracy of laboratory reports.","PeriodicalId":91884,"journal":{"name":"International journal of current multidisciplinary studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85210905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
