They also know when to flex to another style to get the results they desire for their colleagues, patients, teams, and organizations. The DiSC assessment identifies four leadership preferences — dominance, influence, steadiness, and conscientiousness — and can be a practical tool for physician leaders to build emotional intelligence and relationship skills.","PeriodicalId":91157,"journal":{"name":"Physician leadership journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45318349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Biases in the hiring and firing of older physicians are usually rooted in concerns about their performance and safety records. Relatively little data, however, is available related to the effect of age on the skills and performance of non-clinical physicians working in industry settings — for example, pharmaceutical and health insurance companies. Managers should be aware of bias “blind spots” in their hiring recommendations.","PeriodicalId":91157,"journal":{"name":"Physician leadership journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43907134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Grieving the capabilities of one’s past practice settings in a new world order is still common, and for some, this manifests in holding a grievance toward unknown or unidentified forces. These services are increasingly being offered by healthcare providers around the country. Admittedly, I knew very little about this area despite being a physician leader in several roles over the course of my career. I quickly came to learn that there are important implications for ensuring the delivery of high-quality services in the health, wellness, and beauty space that have relevance for physician leaders more broadly.","PeriodicalId":91157,"journal":{"name":"Physician leadership journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41777977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CLABSI events can be prevented by decreasing central line utilization, improving practices during central line insertion and maintenance phases, and daily surveillance for necessity. A belief that zero harm to patients is possible and development of a supportive organizational culture with visible leadership were key to reducing CLABSI events and creating long-lasting change, even during the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":91157,"journal":{"name":"Physician leadership journal","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48134871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
