Unlike traditional businesses, medical practices must address patients' emotional and physical needs. Key strategies include demonstrating enthusiasm, empathy, true concern, professionalism, and confidence in answering questions. This article emphasizes the importance of training staff to handle calls with care, ensuring they listen attentively, respond empathetically, and maintain a professional demeanor. By fostering an emotionally supportive environment, practices can enhance patient satisfaction, build trust, and ultimately increase the likelihood of securing appointments and fostering long-term patient relationships.","PeriodicalId":91157,"journal":{"name":"Physician leadership journal","volume":"89 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141695214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While an idea is the starting point, it holds no value until it faces market realities, competitors, regulations, and other factors that shape its worth. Investors look for startups with a robust execution plan, a resilient team, scalability, adaptability, early validation, and a compelling pitch. Scientific results also hold value as a starting point for potential therapies or products, but their ultimate worth depends on successful translation. The key lesson for startups and investors alike is to not overestimate the value of raw ideas or scientific results without considering the execution process’s challenges and requirements.","PeriodicalId":91157,"journal":{"name":"Physician leadership journal","volume":"5 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141694033","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To pave the way for responsible integration, the author identified seven AI tools ripe for immediate implementation: (1) streamlined patient encounters, (2) automated chronic disease management, (3) personalized medical literature summaries, (4) enhanced clinical decision-making, (5) bedside image interpretation, (6) simplified quality improvement initiatives, and (7) streamlined research projects. Healthcare systems, however, must prepare for this AI influx. Physicians must have a decisive voice in shaping AI’s role in healthcare, while the tech industry must ensure transparency and ethical development.","PeriodicalId":91157,"journal":{"name":"Physician leadership journal","volume":"189 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141705989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A key component of a lawsuit is a deposition: the taking and recording of testimony of a physician under oath before a court reporter in a place away from the courtroom before trial. Physicians should understand the nuances of a deposition and the importance of listening and learning from the attorney defending them against the allegations of negligence. This article educates physicians about the nature, processes, and well-thought-out physician responses in a deposition. Several cases highlight the complexities of being deposed. Well-considered answers to complicated questioning are crucial for physicians defending their actions or omissions.","PeriodicalId":91157,"journal":{"name":"Physician leadership journal","volume":"6 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141700429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Patients with chronic healthcare needs are susceptible to prolonged stress, which can lead to burnout and negative health outcomes. The evolution of medical practice has led to organization-based roles, specialization, and adherence to established care standards. There are many ways to deviate from conventional work in medicine and find satisfaction, however, such as in practice settings beyond hospitals or outpatient medical offices and by adopting cutting-edge medical technologies and treatments. The author emphasizes that unconventional careers are an integral part of medicine and offers a perspective that other labels like “alternative” or “nontraditional” do not capture as well.","PeriodicalId":91157,"journal":{"name":"Physician leadership journal","volume":"17 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141701702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
