The aim of this work was to study the epidemiological and clinical profile of foreign bodies in ENT in a peripheral health center of Bamako. This was a cross-sectional study carried out in the ENT department of the Reference Health Center of Commune V of Bamako from January 2018 to December 2018. In our current study, the frequency of foreign bodies in ENT was 1.47% (68 cases) detected from 4630 medical consultations. The male / female ratio was 1.12, ie 36 men and 32 women. The 0 to 5 age group represented 42.6%. The average age was 15 years with extremes of 10 months and 76 years. We identified 58.9% of foreign bodies from ear, 32.4% from the nasal cavity; those of the bronchi, esophagus and pharynx each accounted for 2.9%. Cotton represented 19.1%, pebbles and food foreign bodies (13.2% each); and a button cell battery case. Foreign bodies are most often seen in children in ENT. Their natures are diverse. It can be an emergency. Complications can be fatal. Prevention intervention must be taken. The adequacy of the technical platform taking care that important ENT aspect is essential.","PeriodicalId":91095,"journal":{"name":"International journal of otorhinolaryngology","volume":"37 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89543772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A 3 years old male presented with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss bilaterally since birth. During cochlear prosthetic device implantation surgery, an incidental intraoperative cyst was found in the postauricular area around 5 cm behind the bony external auditory canal. In this paper, we demonstrate our management for mastoid dermoid cyst with respect to the clinical, radiological, histopathological, and surgical aspects.","PeriodicalId":91095,"journal":{"name":"International journal of otorhinolaryngology","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80393327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is was descriptive cross-sectional study which was carried out from March to May 2014 in three (03) cotton ginning factories located in the city of Parakou. It involved the workers exposed to noise, who had accepted to participate to the survey and in whom an audiometry was performed. One hundred and thirteen workers were selected, including 104 (92%) male and 9 female (8%). Their mean age was 39.3 +/-9.6 years with extremes of 18 and 54 years. During 8 hours a day, 38% of the respondents were exposed to noise levels lower than 80 dB (A), 31% to levels higher or equal to 90 dB (A) and 31% to levels between 80 and 90 dB (A). The average seniority of the workers surveyed was 7 cotton seasons with extremes of one and 31 seasons. No employee had benefitted from medical consultation or audiometry on recruitment or thereafter. And all the employees reported not using any personal protective equipment. The overall prevalence of noise induced hearing loss in the cotton ginning factories in Parakou in 2014 was estimated at 88.5% (100 out of 113 respondents). The average hearing loss (AHL) was 40.8 dB +/- 8.8 dB in the right ear and 28.9 dB +/- 11.8 dB in the left ear. Taking into account only the deafest ear, AHL was light in 44% of cases, moderate in 54% of cases and severe in 2% of cases. There was a statistically significant relationship between the degree of NIHL and seniority in the firm (p=0.012).","PeriodicalId":91095,"journal":{"name":"International journal of otorhinolaryngology","volume":"29 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74348980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
