(Genbank MN243657) was obtained from the Center for Bioscience and Nanoscience Research, and P. aeruginosa SU-1 were used in this study. Initially, biomass was optimized for the incubation period, pH, and temperature, following biomass optimization with RSM. The obtained organisms were able to produce keratinase, which was found to be a 64 KDa protein and 56KDa. Now the biomass produced using the optimized condition was immobilized and checked for its ability to degrade keratinase, and efficiency was compared. Immobilized P. aeruginosa SU-1 was degrading keratin and feather better than Bacillus sp. (Genbank MN243657). It was found to reduce featherweight by 57.3% and 41%. Hence it was found that both the immobilized bacterium can be used for poultry waste treatment, and P. aeruginosa SU-1 was more efficient than Bacillus sp. (Genbank MN243657).","PeriodicalId":90703,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Its feasibility as a source for the development of health supplements was tested by analyzing the phytochemical, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties of the fern. The plant was found to be rich in phenolic compounds like tannins, saponins, etc. which shows it will be of good medicinal value. The DPPH antioxidant activity of the various extracts shows the good presence of antioxidants, which shows its potential use as health supplements. A fair antibacterial activity was shown against the disease, causing bacteria Staphylococcus sp. and Bacillus sp. It can be concluded that the fern has good nutritional and antibacterial activity. The phytoremediation property of Azolla grown in a metal-containing sample was assessed using atomic absorption spectroscopy, and positive results indicated its prospective use in industrial or laboratory wastewater treatment. Thus Azolla is an ideal candidate for future research in food, feed, and fodder applications. It can be utilized as a natural plant-based antimicrobial and also as a water purifier.","PeriodicalId":90703,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Daytime sleepiness, or difficulty in maintaining a desired level of wakefulness, is frequently viewed by the general population as a common experience and predictable consequence of insufficient sleep. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of excessive daytime sleepiness and factors associated with medical students in a private university in Malaysia. A cross-sectional study was conducted among year 1 to year 5 medical students. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) version 19.0. A minimum sample size of 400 was obtained. The percentage of Excessive day time sleepiness (EDS) among the students was 44% (176 of 400). Association between EDS and other independent variables was seen by the Chi-square test with p-value < 0.05 considered as a significant association. Of the various factors determined, a statistically significant association was found between internet usage and EDS.","PeriodicalId":90703,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. In order to keep their vital signs measured, patients will have to make regular visits to the doctor. The Cough detection device helps in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory problems at an early age. Cough aims to remove mucus and bronchial diseases, which plays an important role in prevention and cure. More than 3 million individuals died of COPD in 2012, which is equivalent to 6 percent of all fatalities worldwide a year, according to world estimates. Citizens consider it impossible to track cough-related illnesses in rural areas because of the sophistication of the system and its testing costs. Nowadays, some people do have a mix of COPD and asthma. There is an immense demand for non-invasive ways of calculating these vital signs. This paper aims to develop and deploy a safe, inexpensive, low powered, non-intrusive, and effective device that can be worn daily and track the vital signs and show the performance to the mobile phone. The physician can also conveniently access such data through a wireless medium. This paper deals primarily with the acquisition of vital signs for signal conditioning and data: ECG, heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, Sp02, cough rate, and respiration rate. This work proposes an innovative wearable cough detection method for early diagnosis and very early treatment of pulmonary diseases.","PeriodicalId":90703,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. In the present study, gelatin was extracted from the discarded portions of the Amphioctopusmarginatus. One of the major octopus species landed near the Kerala coast. Physico-chemical and functional characterization of the extracted gelatin was done based on SDS- PAGE, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, FTIR, XRD, HPLC, gelling and emulsifying capacities. Later, biocomposite film based on the gelatin/chitosan/zeolite was developed and characterized according to its solubility, opacity, spectroscopic analysis, antioxidative and antimicrobial activities. The results showed the dimensions of improving the properties of biopolymer films in terms of its ability to prevent the oxidative lipid changes, protein degradation and microbial spoilage in packaged fresh chicken meat over 9 days of refrigerated storage. The gelatin/chitosan/zeolite composite film thus developed has the potential to serve as a promising bio-based packaging material in the food packaging and meat processing industries.","PeriodicalId":90703,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. The presence of useful organisms like lactic acid bacteria from the mixed fruit wastes was explored in this study since these microbes use these wastes as a nutrient source for their growth. The lactic acid bacteria isolated using MRS medium was identified as Lactobacillus saniviri NKSS1 by 16s rRNA analysis. The bacteriocin produced by Lactobacillus saniviri NKSS1 showed inhibitory effect against the food pathogen (Listeria monocytogenes) and clinical pathogen (Acinetobacter baumannii). Optimization of bacteriocin production from Lactobacillus saniviri NKSS1 was achieved at 24 h of incubation, temperature at 35 °C with the initial medium pH of 6.5. The carbon & nitrogen sources like dextrose (3% w/v) and yeast extract (0.75% w/v) enhanced the production of bacteriocin in MRS medium. Antimicrobial activity was reduced in the partially purified bacteriocin when incubated at 95 °C for 2 h but it retained its activity in the pH range of 5.5 to 8.5. Whereas, metals like CuSO4 and MgSO4 at (0.5 % w/v) interfered with the antagonistic activity of partially purified bacteriocin. Ionic detergents like SDS and CTAB partially decreased the antimicrobial activity, while other non-ionic detergents inhibited the antimicrobial activity completely. The molecular weight of partially purified bacteriocin from Lactobacillus saniviri NKSS1 was found to be 10.9 kDa. It can be concluded that bacteriocin of L. saniviri NKSS1 holds a promising potential for extension of shelf-life and improvement of microbiological safety in food industries.","PeriodicalId":90703,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Natural Polysaccharide polymers are found abundant in nature and are now frequently been used for the preparation of many nanomaterials. When compared to the synthetic polymers available, natural biopolymers are more biocompatible, biodegradable, and renewable in nature. The production of Nanomaterials from biopolymers has eventually improved the properties of the Nano-products developed. Nature has provided many different varieties of natural polymers; one such plant-derived polymer is the plant Gum exudate. Gums are commonly exuded by plants at very small quantities, forming conspicuous incrustations. These Natural gums exudates are polysaccharides. They are chemically inert, biocompatible, biodegradable, and sustainable in nature. In this study, plant gum-based biopolymers were used for the synthesis of nanoparticles. The natural gum exudates were collected from the plants' Araucaria heterophylla, Azadirachta indica. The obtained biopolymers were purified by the solvent extraction method and were characterized by UV-Vis Spectroscopy, FTIR, and TGA. Further, the purified biopolymers were subjected to the encapsulation of drugs (as Nanocarrier) and coating for SPIONs (superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles). The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by UV-Vis Spectroscopy, FTIR, SEM, EDAX, TEM, and AFM. The biopolymer-based nanocarriers were about 200nm in size and were utilized for effective drug delivery studies using MCF-7 Breast cancer lines. Finally, the biopolymer encapsulated SPIONs particles of size around 40nm were used for water treatment studies - removing the heavy metal chromium as well as mosquito larvae from water. Thus, the nano-products developed were found to be more eco-friendly, efficient, and also cost-effective.","PeriodicalId":90703,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings.
