We collected samples from two areas (cage farm and control) in March and June 2019. Stomach contents were examined, and food items were identified and quantified using the volumetric method. Differences in diet composition were evaluated using PERMANOVA and SIMPER analyses, while trophic niche breadth was determined using PERMDISP. The trophic guild for each area was also determined. Significant differences in diet between cage farm and control areas were observed, due to consumption of pelleted feed, microcrustaceans, Egeria sp., and filamentous algae. In both sampling areas, M. lippincottianus was classified as algivorous. Despite the pelleted feed consumption in the cage farm area, no differences were observed in trophic niche breadth and the trophic guild. In addition, algae and macrophytes still accounted for the majority of this species' diet in both areas, indicating partitioning of resources. This resource partitioning may favor coexistence, but it is worth mentioning that pelleted feed consumption still indicates the influence of cage fish farms on the diet of wild fish.","PeriodicalId":9062,"journal":{"name":"Boletim do Instituto de Pesca","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80731839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Four hundred carps (Cyprinus carpio haematopterus) were fed with five experimental diets supplemented with 0, 100, 200, 400, and 800 mg kg-1 OPG for 28 days. Each group had four replicates and 20 fish per replication. LPS challenge (injection of 40 mg kg-1 saline or LPS) occurred at day 29. The supplementation with OPG linearly increased (p<0.05) plasma total protein, immunoglobulin M (IgM), complement 4 (C4), cortisol, and lactate on day 14. Dietary supplementation with OPG linearly increased (p<0.05) plasma and complement 3 (C3); quadratically improved (p<0.05) alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and lysozyme (LYS) activities; linearly increased hepatic superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities; increased malondialdehyde (MDA) contents; and improved (p<0.05) hepatic anti-superoxide anion (ASA) and anti-hydroxy radical (AHR) contents on days 14 and 28. Dietary OPG significantly prevented the increase of interleukin 1β (IL-1β), interleukin 6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) by inhibiting the excessive activation of TLR2-Myd88 signaling pathway; downregulating TLR2, Myd88, and NF-κB p65; and upregulating nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and Keap1 mRNA expression (p<0.05). Therefore, this study indicated that dietary OPG improves the plasma immune response, regulates the hepatic antioxidant status, and attenuates LPS-induced negative effects in the carp at the optimal dose of 400 mg kg-1.","PeriodicalId":9062,"journal":{"name":"Boletim do Instituto de Pesca","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75409406","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this, we used experimental fisheries, with ichthyofauna samplings carried out in the years 2019 and 2020, which resulted in 2,508 specimens. For quantifying the ecological data, we analyzed Shannon-Weaver diversity, species richness, Simpson dominance and Pielou evenness. The predominant fish orders were Characiformes and Siluriformes, and the species Anchovia aff. surinamensis was the most abundant (N=809/35.49%). Diversity indicators were similar across all sectors (S1=the lower margin - end, S2=center and S3=mouth of the lake). Only the levels of richness and abundance were lower in the S3 sector, despite the importance of this habitat as a link to the Madeira River, which indicates transient diversity, followed by active selection of the S1 and S2 sectors in the lake by most fish. Limnological data, such as those of temperature (30.30±1.20°C), conductivity (35.82±5.98 µS cm-1), dissolved oxygen (7.38±3.56 mg L-1) and pH (6.70±0.54), were within the acceptable levels for tropical fish. The non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) analysis showed the ordering of parameters by sector and species with greater affinity for each environmental attribute, in which dissolved oxygen (NMDS1=-0.720; r2=0.862 and p=0.043) and electrical conductivity stood out. Thus, it can be concluded that the behavior of the fish diversity of Cujubim Lake is affected both seasonally and longitudinally.","PeriodicalId":9062,"journal":{"name":"Boletim do Instituto de Pesca","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-12-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74673585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Samples were collected from two fish processing industries located in Rondônia state, Brazil. The experimental design was completely randomized, with processing performed in triplicate. Data were submitted for analysis of variance (ANOVA) to assess differences between commercial cuts. If ANOVA was statistically significant (α = 0.05), the averages were compared using Tukey's test. In the composition of fatty acids, there was a difference (p < 0.05) between commercial cuts. The commercial cuts with the highest percentages of saturated fatty acids (SFAs) steak at 47.050%, monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) fillet at 45.120%, and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) band at 19.050%. In addition, the band expresses the highest values of omegas 3, 6, 7, and n-9. The indices prescribed ∑PUFAs/∑SFAs, ∑PUFAs (n-6/∑n-3), atherogenicity index, thrombogenicity index, and ratio between hypocholesterolemic and hypercholesterolemic fatty acids, indicating that commercial cuts have lipid quality. This study aimed to evaluate quantitative indicators of the reproductive biology of C. undecimalis in the Parnaíba Delta Environmental Protection Area (Brazil). The parameters were analyzed at the different stages of the reproductive cycle of 155 specimens, 135 (87.10%) males and 20 (12.90%) females. The results showed positive allometric growth for females and negative allometric growth for males. The sex ratio was 1:6.75 (females: males). The first estimated maturation (L50) was 57.21 cm for females and 54.55 cm for males. The species spawns multiple times, with oocytes maturing in batches, being released at intervals. According to the results of this study, it was possible to notice that reproductive peaks occurred in February, May, and November. Therefore, it is recommended that the capture of this species be avoided during these months.","PeriodicalId":9062,"journal":{"name":"Boletim do Instituto de Pesca","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73943703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the effects of the thymol:carvacrol combination (1:1 ratio) on health parameters and zootechnical performance of tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) were evaluated. The compounds were incorporated in concentrations of 0, 500, 1000, 1500, and 2000 mg/kg of feed. At intervals of 30 and 60 days, fish were sampled to evaluate haematological, biochemical, and immunological parameters, and after 60 days, zootechnical performance, parasitic load, and resistance to bacteriosis were evaluated. After 30 days, the fish that received the highest concentrations of thymol:carvacrol showed a reduction in the number of thrombocytes, a decrease in the number of lymphocytes, and an increase in eosinophils (p â\"°¤ 0.05). After 60 days of feeding, haematological parameters were similar between all groups. Regarding the antiparasitic effect of the compounds, all groups that received supplemented diets had a high parasitic load (monogenean infestation) that did not differ from the control group. Regarding the prevention of bacteriosis, high mortality was detected in all groups after experimental challenge with Aeromonas jandaei, with no greater protection for fish fed with thymol:carvacrol. In conclusion, it was observed that the haematological results are different from those described in the literature of aquatic animals and corroborate with research of mammals. Therefore, the anti-inflammatory/immunosuppressive action of thymol and carvacrol are highlighted, which is relevant from a pharmaceutical and medicinal point of view. However, the use of these additives for aquaculture deserves to be discussed carefully, as the cost-benefit of this supplementation for the fish farmer is not a consensus.","PeriodicalId":9062,"journal":{"name":"Boletim do Instituto de Pesca","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78153315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Total densities and densities according to the category of size (small, medium and large), and precipitation were analyzed with autocorrelation and cross-correlation functions, with a retrospective analysis of up to 12 months. Distributed lag models were used among the variables. The maximum density was found in June 2017 (378 ind.m2) for the medium-size category of individuals. Significant autocorrelations occurred for densities (total and average size) and precipitation. In cross-correlation functions, high precipitation for a given month was followed by high densities of total and average individuals for up to two months. Distributed lag models also showed significant values between densities (total and medium-sized) and precipitation, which explained more than 50% of the variability of these two groups. Knowledge about the reproductive characteristics of this fish is fundamental to successful breeding. Objective: This work aimed to study the behavior and reproductive performance of this species in white and black aquariums. A total of 16 pairs were used, 8 in each treatment. The system had water recirculation, with fresh and inert food supply. Result: The fish demonstrated parental care, more accentuated by the female and partial spawning. The same coloration pattern was observed in both treatments, with coloration intensifying only during spawning. The eggs were adhesive and U-shaped/oval. The females followed the larvae, even after they left the nests, and attacked the males when they approached the offspring. Males exhibited territorial behavior. No significant differences were observed for the following parameters studied: largest and smallest egg size, spawning weight, absolute fecundity, number of hatched larvae, and hatchability rate. Conclusion: This study found that the fish are prolific and show good reproductive rates in conditions of captivity; thus, they are suitable to rear for the ornamental fish trade.","PeriodicalId":9062,"journal":{"name":"Boletim do Instituto de Pesca","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84448839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analyses showed Net Present Value of US$ 363,718.21 and US$ 385,477.42, Equivalent annual value of US$ 59,830.66 and US$ 63,410.00, Net future value of US$ 965,052.69 and US$ 1,022,786.35, Payback Period 4.12 and 4.11, Discounted payback period 5.64 and 5.63, Profitability Index 1.47 and 1.48, Internal Rate of Return 20.49 and 20.55%, and Modified Internal Rate of Return 14.61 and 14.64%. The investment analysis used in this study showed that super-intensive production in a greenhouse is the best investment option. The development of a new scenario simulating the super-intensive production of shrimp in a Biofloc Technology system, considering land use as a premise, made it possible to observe the possibility of obtaining financial gains in scale, both in the reduction of production costs and in the economic performance of the enterprise. However, the financial contribution for the implementation and operation of the project increased substantially.","PeriodicalId":9062,"journal":{"name":"Boletim do Instituto de Pesca","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.4,"publicationDate":"2022-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88631756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"农林科学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
