The study analyzed the data obtained from 822 adults aged 40~64 in rural communities in the North and South Jeolla provinces. First, the degree of preparation for old-age (range: 0~100 points) was 62.6 points for social aspects, 73.8 points for physical aspects, 52.7 points for leisure activities aspects, and 64.2 points for economic aspects. Second, through the application of cluster analysis, preparation was classified into 4 different types. The percentages of the 4 types were obtained as follows: 30.2% for Type 1 (overall vulnerable type), 22.7% for Type 2 (overall well-prepared type), 32.0% for Type 3 (leisure activities vulnerable type), and 15.1% for Type 4 (economically vulnerable type). Third, as a result of conducting a chi-square analysis to examine the association between the different types of preparation for old-age and various socio-demographic characteristics, statistically significant differences were found with respect to gender, age, level of education, type of housing, and occupation. Fourth, through an examination of the association between the types of preparation for old-age and a number of family-related characteristics, where statistically significant differences were found in terms of marital status, number of children, number of surviving parents, and family functioning. Based on these findings, the need to account for leisure activities in the preparation for the old-age of rural residents was emphasized. In addition, potential solutions to improve the degree of preparation for old-age while reflecting upon the characteristics of each type were discussed.","PeriodicalId":90513,"journal":{"name":"Han'guk nonyonhak = Journal of Korea Gerontological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135765046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Caregiver burden was assessed based on the amount of total caregiving time (per week), the gap between the amount of actual and desired caregiving time, and the negative caregiving experiences. Family characteristics were analyzed based on social support theory and social recognition theory to investigate whether family gratitude and economic support from family members moderate the caregiver burden-stress relationship. The analysis was conducted on 501 primary caregivers for older adults from the 2018 National Survey of Family Caregiving. The results of this study are as follows: First, when controlling for other characteristics, family caregivers who reported more negative caregiving experiences (e.g. demanding care, constant surveillance, interference from others) experienced higher levels of distress when their actual caregiving time exceeded their preferred caregiving time. Secondly, primary caregivers who perceived gratitude from their families appeared lower levels of distress. Moreover, the interaction effect between caregiving time gap and acknowledgment was significant, indicating that the recognition of gratitude from family members is meaningful in moderating the distress of primary caregivers in stressful situations. Thirdly, the interaction effect between negative caregiving experiences and economic support was also significant, suggesting that the intensity of distress caused by negative caregiving experiences can be reduced through the financial support provided by family members.","PeriodicalId":90513,"journal":{"name":"Han'guk nonyonhak = Journal of Korea Gerontological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135764865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generally, ‘utterance’ that include incomplete clauses and ‘sentence’ that necessarily include complete clauses can be used as a basic criterion for analysis. Since utterances and sentences have different structural requirements, the results may differ depending on the basic criteria of analysis. The aim of the study is to confirm the differences in various analysis indicators according to the uttrance and sentence analysis criteria. To investigate syntactic characteristics according to age, 54 young people (27.31 ± 4.72), 48 middle-aged people (49.93 ± 5.80), and 40 old people (69.02 ± 5.44) participated. In the utterance analysis criteria, OA had fewer syllables, postpositional particles, endings, and grammatical morphemes than the YA. OA produced fewer mean length of utterance-word and the number of object case markers than the YA and MA. In the sentence analysis criteria, there was no difference in the number of syllables, postpositional particles, endings, and grammatical morphemes among the groups. These results suggest the applicability and basis of the sentence analysis criteria for investigating grammatical knowledge during syntax analysis.","PeriodicalId":90513,"journal":{"name":"Han'guk nonyonhak = Journal of Korea Gerontological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135765045","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analytical model was divided into two main categories. The first model analyzed socioeconomic status, which is determined by a combination of income, assets, educational level, occupational status, and housing type. The second model analyzed the impact of each socioeconomic status component on whether individuals are retired by the mandatory retirement age or not. To this end, this study was carried out on the using data from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA), specifically from the 1st(2006) to 8th(2020) survey and using an independent T-test, Chi-squared test, and logistic regression analysis. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, individuals with higher socioeconomic status were more likely to retire under the mandatory retirement age system than those with lower socioeconomic status. Secondly, as a result of isolating the socioeconomic status components, it was found that individuals with higher income, greater assets, and more consistent work schedules have a greater likelihood of retiring under the mandatory retirement age system. The suggestions of this study, based on the analysis results, are as follows. First, it is suggested that the mandatory retirement age system be based on industry or occupation. Secondly, it is recommended to gradually implement efforts aimed at ensuring a guaranteed retirement age system for non-standard workers. Finally, it is suggested to introduce sickness benefits or a family care system in order to deter early retirement.","PeriodicalId":90513,"journal":{"name":"Han'guk nonyonhak = Journal of Korea Gerontological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135765047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It also acknowledges that the effects of residential environment factors on Aging in Place might vary due to regional differences between urban and rural areas. Consequently, the study seeks to establish an empirical approach considering regional characteristics, assessing whether the residential environment in each area supports elderly individuals in maintaining their community living. The analysis utilized data from the 2020 Elderly Survey, encompassing 8,878 participants, including 6,541 elderly residents from urban settings and 2,337 from rural areas. Results indicated that rural seniors exhibited a stronger preference for Aging in Place, with 65.3% compared to 61.7% among urban counterparts, highlighting their inclination towards remaining within their local community. Urban areas indicated higher satisfaction with the physical environment, while rural areas showed greater contentment with the social environment, particularly community relationships. Binary logistic regression analysis demonstrated that urban elderly individuals were more likely to opt for Aging in Place when they reported higher housing satisfaction, better accessibility to the external environment, and limited opportunities for social interaction with neighbors. In rural areas, a higher likelihood of choosing community-based living was observed when housing satisfaction, active participation in social activities, and community relationship satisfaction were greater. In light of these findings, it is advisable to develop policies aligned with the unique characteristics of urban and rural contexts, aiming to facilitate Aging in Place among the elderly population.","PeriodicalId":90513,"journal":{"name":"Han'guk nonyonhak = Journal of Korea Gerontological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135764866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, 2,545 older adults with cognitive impairment group and 7,281 normal older adults selected based on a cognitive function diagnostic test were selected as final analysis subjects among all respondents in the 2020 survey of living conditions and welfare needs of Korean older persons. As a result of the study, it was found that both the nutritional status and depression relationship between cognitive impairment group and normal older adults were negatively significant. It was found that the elderly with cognitive impairment group had a significant the blood relation social support system among social support, and normal older adults had a significant non-blood relation social support system among social support. In other words, the lower the blood relation social support system for the elderly with cognitive impairment group, and the lower the non-blood relation social support system for the normal older adults, the higher the depression. Finally, as a result of examining the moderating effect of social support, it was found that the elderly with reduced cognitive function had a moderating effect in the blood relation social support system and the normal older adults elderly in the non-blood relation social support. Therefore, this study expanded the academic discussion by examining the moderating effect of social support on nutritional status and depression in the elderly based on NSS (New Nutrition Science), which emphasizes theories related to nutrition, depression, and social support. In particular, it is meaningful in that it can be used as basic data for practical and policy measures by conducting research on the elderly with cognitive decline, who have a high prevalence of dementia and mild cognitive impairment.","PeriodicalId":90513,"journal":{"name":"Han'guk nonyonhak = Journal of Korea Gerontological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135764867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the process, the importance of the economic domain was emphasized as one aspect of Anxiety about aging, and the measurement tool was modified and supplemented to include questions about it. For this study, an online survey was conducted targeting the middle-aged between the ages of 45 and 64 all over the country, and the data of 558 people who completed the survey were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that Support Expectation had a positive effect on Anxiety about aging, and Policy Trust had a negative effect on it. Preparation for old age has a negative effect on Anxiety about aging, and Support Expectation and Policy Trust both have an indirect effect on Anxiety about aging through Preparation for old age. In order to reduce anxiety about aging, it is necessary to establish a policy that can secure reliability and effectiveness by collecting diverse opinions from policy targets and fully understanding practical needs. In addition, various programs and services should be prepared to provide knowledge and information that will help the middle-aged prepare for old age.","PeriodicalId":90513,"journal":{"name":"Han'guk nonyonhak = Journal of Korea Gerontological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135764863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Between March and June 2020, in-depth interviews were conducted with seven older workers from franchised convenience stores in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, followed by within-case and cross-case analyses of the results. The within-case analysis focused on each participant’s personal circumstances, motivations for seeking employment, and work experience. The cross-case analysis identified common themes, resulting in seven major categories and 22 subcategories: “Reasons for choosing convenience stores as secondary employment,” “Knocking on the door of reemployment,” “Elderly entry into the new world of the convenience store industry,” “Ubiquity of difficulties,” “Overcoming challenges,” “My life changing positively through work,” and “Older workers in convenience stores.” Based on the results of this study, we suggest the following: First, it is necessary to develop jobs that reflect the experiences, capabilities, and desires of the elderly. Second, it is necessary to establish an integrated system that includes policy information on the working environment, job training, and support ministries. Third, cooperation at the national and corporate levels is needed to establish a system to strengthen safety management in convenience stores. Fourth, there is a need for systematic job training that reflects the needs of older workers and companies.","PeriodicalId":90513,"journal":{"name":"Han'guk nonyonhak = Journal of Korea Gerontological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135764868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 10 male participants aged 65 or older, who exhibited mild depression based on the K-GDS, were selected from an elderly nursing home in K City. The participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental group(n=5) or the control group(n=5). The experimental group attended 12 sessions of group art therapy, excluding pre- and post-examinations, with each session lasting 60 minutes and taking place once a week. The K-GDS and OHQ were utilized as study tools, and qualitative analysis was conducted with the program steps. The results of this study, first, group art therapy was effective in reducing feelings of helplessness, anxiety, and unhappiness, which are sub-factors of depression, but did not significantly impact the cognitive decline associated with depression in elderly males residents in the nursing home. Second, group art therapy was found to be effective in improving internal happiness, external happiness, and self-regulated happiness, which are sub-factors of subjective happiness among the elderly male residents in the nursing home. Third, a qualitative analysis of the program at different stages, including the initial, mid-term I, mid-term II, and closing stages, revealed that group art therapy had a positive effect on both depression and subjective happiness among male elderly residents in the nursing home.","PeriodicalId":90513,"journal":{"name":"Han'guk nonyonhak = Journal of Korea Gerontological Society","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135764869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
