In this group of patients overall survival is short. Efficacy and tolerability of current available treatments is limited. The serum Ca125 concentration has been well documented as an useful marker for evaluating intravenous chemotherapy response in epithelial ovarian cancer patients. The main goal of this study was estimation of Ca125 concentration decline rate in the intraperitoneal fluid as a prognostic factor for intraperitoneal chemotherapy response and patients survival. Material and method: Patients included to this analysis attained intravenous chemorefractory malignant ascites in the ovarian cancer course. An intraperitoneal chemotherapy was cisplatin based. Ca125 concentration was measured twice in intraperitoneal fluid: before intraperitoneal chemotherapy infusion and 24 hours after. Results: Patients with Ca125 intraperitoneal concentration decrease more than 3 times lived longer than patients with lower Ca126 concentration reduction (78,5 vs 33,1 months), p=0.06. The results of this study have many limitations, mostly due to the group of pts being small. That is why the results should be taken into consideration with caution. Conclusions: Intraperitoneal fluid Ca125 concentration decrease rate after intraperitoneal chemotherapy seems to be prognostic factor for overall survival in ovarian cancer patients with refractory malignant ascites.","PeriodicalId":90400,"journal":{"name":"Zhong liu za zhi","volume":"4 1","pages":"474-477"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67616405","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But are there any differences among districts in the frequency of developing them? In this report, based on articles and abstracts, frequency of HB is compared between Japan andthe USA. Using key words of \"T18\", \"HB\", \"WT\", \"leukemia\", etc., articles and abstracts reporting cases with T18 and malignant neoplasms were gathered from the Pubmed as well as the Igaku Chuo Zassi (Japanese Central Journal of Medicine), which is a searching tool for medical articles written in Japanese and English. In Japan, a total of 21 cases with HB and only 1 case with WT were reported. In the USA, however, 5 cases with HB and 8 cases with WT in T18 cases were reported. Long survival periods lead to increased chances to develop HB. Infant mortality of Japan is the lowest in the world, being less than half of that of the USA. Several authors reported survival rates of T18 cases in general. Survival rates of Japanese cases were longer than those in western countries. The general incidence of WT in Japan is about half of that in the USA. These facts might partially explain why HB cases are frequent and WT ones are less frequent in T18 cases in Japan. Considering the number of live births of the USA andthat of Japan, the frequency of HB cases in Japan is too high to be explained only by publication bias. There may besome racial differences that promote HB and suppress WT in Japanese T18 cases.","PeriodicalId":90400,"journal":{"name":"Zhong liu za zhi","volume":"4 1","pages":"456-460"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67616479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

METHODS AND MATERIAL: 106 subjects with colon cancer and 476 controls from the White population of Rome were studied. p53 codon 72, ACP1, PTPN22, ADA2 and ADA6 polymorphisms were determined by DNA analysis. Statistical analyses were carried out by SPSS programs. RESULTS: The proportions of the joint genotypes of *Pro allele carriers with *B/*B genotype of ACP1, with carriers of *T allele of PTPN22, with the ADA1*1/*1 genotype and with carriers of ADA6*1 allele are higher in colon cancer than in controls. A statistically significant positive correlation is observed in colon cancer between the proportion of *Pro allele carriers and the number of the four genetic factors considered. Sex and cancer grade influence this correlation. CONCLUSIONS: Common genetic polymorphisms influence the strength of correlation between p53 codon 72 and colon cancer suggesting a possible explanation of the contrasting result observed between different populations. Moreover, the results support the multi-factorial origin of cancer.","PeriodicalId":90400,"journal":{"name":"Zhong liu za zhi","volume":"4 1","pages":"478-481"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67616347","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this report we focused on the effects of glucan on levels of individual classes and subclasses of immunoglobulins. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We evaluated the levels of IgM, IgG, IgA, IgG1, IgG2, IgG3 and IgG4 in 39 patients diagnosed with breast or colorectal cancer. RESULTS: We found a significant decrease of IgG1 levels in the placebo group, which was particularly pronounced in females. CONCLUSIONS: Short-term glucan supplementation significantly stabilized levels of IgG1 resulting in maintaining anti-infectious immunity. The decrease in IgG1 levels found in the placebo group was clearly caused by a complex therapy of cancer disease.","PeriodicalId":90400,"journal":{"name":"Zhong liu za zhi","volume":"4 1","pages":"469-473"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67616442","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Oral squamous cell carcinoma is the common type of cancer occurring either de novo or from pre-existing potentially malignant disorders like leukoplakia. Ever since the disease has been identified, efforts are made to understand its pathogenesis with an aim to identify methods for early diagnosis, evolve appropriate treatment strategies and improve prognosis. Though tobacco, alcohol and microbes are considered important risk factors for OSCC; these are usually accompanied by various genetic and epigenetic changes. Modern analytical technologies provide comprehensive methods for identification of these molecular changes which can serve as an important biomarker. Metabolomics forms a part of ‘omic’ group that also includes genomics, proteomics and transcriptomics which is associated with the identification and quantitation of small molecules involved in metabolic reactions. The identification of a wide range of metabolites in bodily fluids is considered as an important diagnostic tool for assessment of disease biomarkers. The role of saliva as an important diagnostic tool for biomarker analysis has been accepted as a safe alternative to blood owing to its easy and non-invasive nature of collection and its close proximity to the oral lesions. This review provides an overview of the use of salivary metabolomics in OSCC and presents the current literature findings and future implications.","PeriodicalId":90400,"journal":{"name":"Zhong liu za zhi","volume":"4 1","pages":"450-455"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67616251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Carcinogenic process starts in a group of cancer cells, called cancer stem cells (CSCs) having the ability to start and maintain tumor growth and invasion. In order to detect and remove colon CSCs, a selective biomarker \"LGR5 (leucine-rich-repeat-containing G-protein-coupled receptor 5)\" might be required. At the same time, an abnormal expression of TPX2 (targeting protein for xenopus kinesin-like protein 2) has been found to be related to the development and progression of tumors. We aimed to evaluate the immunohistochemical expressions of LGR5 and TPX2 in CRC in a trial to clarify their relations to proliferation and metastasis of CRC, and hence its prognosis. Methods: Immunohistochemical staining of both LGR5 and TPX2 was assessed in sections from sixty paraffin blocks of CRC . The relationships between their levels of expressions with the clinicopathological parameters and patient outcome were statistically analyzed. Results: The immunoexpression of LGR5 in CRC was significantly positively correlated with location of the tumor, grade, stage, local recurrence, lymph node and distant metastasis (p <0.001). The expression of TPX2 in CRC was also found to be significantly correlated with the previous parameters (p <0.001). High LGR5 and TPX2 immunohistochemical expressions were strongly correlated with worse 3-year overall survival (OS), local recurrence free survival (LRFS) and distant metastases free survival (DMFS) (P <0.001). Conclusion: High immunohistochemical expressions of both LGR5 and TPX2 and the positive correlation between both of them represent signs of poor prognosis of CRC.","PeriodicalId":90400,"journal":{"name":"Zhong liu za zhi","volume":"4 1","pages":"448-456"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67616271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
