This integrated care coordination model  – referred to as a medical home – has been rapidly adopted by many payers.  And, a specialized version of the medical home model – referred to as a heatlh home or specialty medical home – has been developed for consumers with complex needs.  The model has changed both the relationship of the insured individual to the payer and to their medical specialists. It is early in the adoption of specialty medical homes and two key financial questions are yet unanswered.  The first, do specialty medical homes reduce health care spending for complex consumers.  The second, what are the financial implications of a specialty medical home model for heatlh care provider organizations.  This research examines the available research literature and other published data for preliminary answers to these questions of financial impact of this emerging heatlh care system model.","PeriodicalId":89884,"journal":{"name":"American journal of health sciences","volume":"49 1","pages":"91-100"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79370458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While there is support for implementation, there is a lack of data and guidelines which to follow currently. The purpose of this nursing research study was to investigate the impact of inter-professional collaboration on nursing student outcomes in the online environment. A co-teaching model was implemented within an online environment to provide inter-professionally lead nursing sciences courses to nursing students in a baccalaureate program. In the four sessions following the implementation of interdisciplinary collaborative teaching, 605 students completed the courses with 179 submitting the end of course survey. Results indicated that the overall student satisfaction rating with the pathophysiology online course was significant at p < 0.05 following the implementation of inter-professional teaching methodology. Prior to implementation of collaborative teaching, the total enrollment in pathophysiology was 194. After the institution of collaborative teaching, the total student enrollment was 605. This reflected a significant increase in student enrollment of 311%. Today, the complex healthcare delivery system necessitates a shift from traditional education to an inter-professional collaborative teaching model that generates knowledge from interaction with a variety of educators from a variety of disciplines (Hean, Craddock, & Hammick, 2012). Nursing curricula is needed which fosters both an inter-professional learning of shared knowledge and the discipline-specific learning essential for professional practice.","PeriodicalId":89884,"journal":{"name":"American journal of health sciences","volume":"24 1","pages":"101-110"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82566678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the high flexibility in online learning, Allen & Seaman (2011) explained that there is a higher dropout rate for online students as compared to a traditional classroom setting. It was found that there is lack of teacher-immediacy, teacher presence, and student interaction with teachers that may cause the high attrition rates (Martin et al., 2012). One university college of nursing has been able to combat this problem by introducing a follow-up process into the curriculum, supporting how faculty interact with each other and with their students.","PeriodicalId":89884,"journal":{"name":"American journal of health sciences","volume":"63 1","pages":"9-14"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72792432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This vital task is not completed due mainly to the fact that, incredibly, no model has been implemented to date mainly because of financial constraints and the overall lack of nurses’ computer literacy within the health services area in Indonesia. Although copious nursing recordkeeping is standard practice abroad, this vital task is not the norm in our area. Thus, the aim of this integrative literature review was to investigate the development of the electronic nursing record system (ENRS) in hospital settings across different countries and its effects on the care process and care outcomes. The results of this review showed that ENRS has been used widely in other developed countries and has benefited nurses and other healthcare providers. Hence, the findings of this review can be used by hospital policymakers in other developing countries, where the ENRS have not been implemented yet, as the evidence to consider the use of the ENRS.","PeriodicalId":89884,"journal":{"name":"American journal of health sciences","volume":"30 1","pages":"1-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90524059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Poor communication does not only lead to frustration and lack of respect among professions but also may compromise patient care if important information is misunderstood, ineffectively conveyed, or left out. This research explores clinical pharm acy students’ and clinical pharmacy graduates’ attitudes towards the relevance and importance of learning communication skills in their pharmacy careers in the United Arab Emirates. For the purposes of this study, Rees, Sheard, and Davies’ (2002) Communica tion Skills Attitudes Scale (CSAS) is used to measure pharmacy students’ and pharmacy graduates’ attitudes towards communication skills learning. Although this measure was originally designed to measure medical students’ attitudes towards communication skills learning in a European country, the results obtained from our study are not dissimilar to those reported by Rees et al. (2002) in their study. The paper concludes with some practical suggestions for pharmacy experts in charge of pharmacy communication courses.","PeriodicalId":89884,"journal":{"name":"American journal of health sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"17-22"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89448162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, only limited progress has been made. Part of the difficulty is identifying the scope of the problem, which has been far larger than thought since the advent of new reporting tools. The major causes of medical errors lie in the lack of a (a) pervasive safety culture, (b) commitment by top healthcare organization management to reduce medical errors, and (c) integrated IT systems, including electronic health records. Compared to other “high reliability” organizations that have achieved excellent results in regard to safety, healthcare is perceived as lagging far behind. Healthcare is not the sole industry needing a safety culture. However, many healthcare leaders perceive existing industry tools that high reliability organizations routinely use as irrelevant. Positive change will come when attitudes change and healthcare organizations embrace the solutions that other industrial organizations have utilized to produce satisfactory safety outcomes.","PeriodicalId":89884,"journal":{"name":"American journal of health sciences","volume":"27 1","pages":"45-52"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88847892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The specific objectives are to; identify the socio-economic characteristics of the rural women in the area, ascertain common health problems they encounter and their health management techniques and the influence of the rural women’s health status on level of cassava production in the area. A multi-stage random sampling technique was employed to select 200 women farmers in Ikom Local Government Area in Nigeria. Data was collected and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study revealed that, majority of the women were in the age range of 40-50 years, 71% were married, 78% traded alongside farming, 66.5% had some form of formal education, their family sizes range between 6-10 people and with a mean family size of 6. Annual income of the farmers range between #10,000 - #14,000. The predominant practice was mixed cropping. Body pains, fever, malaria, headache, were the common ailment. While painful menstruation (20.5%) was the most common reproductive disease. Results from the regression analysis shows that the household size, educational level and income are significantly related to the health status of the rural women while age and marital status are not significantly related. Health centers, patent medicine stores, family planning, leprosy centers were readily available in the villages surveyed clinic. As health status of the women improved, productivity was therefore expected to increase. On this basis, the policy of free health facilities for women was advocated if women cassava productivity is to increase. A policy of free medical facilities including good food to the rural women will boost their health status and productivity.","PeriodicalId":89884,"journal":{"name":"American journal of health sciences","volume":"61 1","pages":"37-44"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86009769","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the raised Alert level 4 warning given by the government, meaning \"full evacuation mode\" from Libya, most nurses refused to be repatriated and stayed to continue serving in Libya. A selected group of sixty-three (63) nurses of different nationalities, working in three (3) different hospitals at the heart of Benghazi, described their present deployment risk level and resilience. Deployment risk level is measured by the Deployment Risk and Resilience Inventory (DRRI) utilizing two of its subscales (C and G) - Difficult Living and Working Environment Scale (Deployment Environment) and the Perceived Threat Scale (Deployment Concern). On the other hand, resilience is measured by the Connor-Davidson Scale. Findings revealed lower risk at exposure to events or circumstances representing repeated or day-to-day irritations and pressures related to life, revealed more perceived threat, but highly resilient during deployment at the war zone. Furthermore, no correlation was found between deployment risk (deployment concern) and resilience, negative low correlation between deployment risk (deployment environment) and resilience, and no significant difference in resilience was observed between genders. Checking the nurses’ current status of deployment risk and resilience in Libya, gave light to future implications on nursing profession.","PeriodicalId":89884,"journal":{"name":"American journal of health sciences","volume":"43 1","pages":"75-82"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90306716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
