This paper proposes a new approach to produce a high quality mesh with separated multiple domains. A point cloud is generated from a preliminary mesh representing the boundary between different domains from the discrete volumetric representation used as input. A higher-order level-set method is employed to produce a quality sub-mesh from this point cloud and geometric flow is used as smoothing mechanism. A new approach to detect and curate intersections within an assembly of these 2-manifold sub-meshes by utilizing the intermediate volumetric representation is developed. The separation between sub-meshes can be controlled by the user using a gap threshold parameter. The resulting high quality multi-domain mesh is free from self- and inter-domain intersections and can be further utilized in finite element and boundary element computations. The proposed pipeline has been efficiently implemented and sample meshes have been provided for visualization.</p>","PeriodicalId":89462,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... Flow Cytometer and A micropipette aspiration technique were adopted to investigate the proliferation and viscoelasticity of A549 cells. A standard linear solid model was adopted to fit the experimental data. Experimental results indicated that cell proliferation index (PI) and viscoelastic coefficients K1, K 2 and µ reduce significantly after A549 cells are subjected to square wave with 15% elongation at frequency 0.5Hz for 4h , the PI and viscoelastic coefficients have no distinct difference between sine wave- treated cells and control A549 cells. The deformability increases and the rigidity decreases for square wave-treated cells. while the PI of A549 cells reduces significantly, the viscoelastic coefficient of A549 cells reduces significantly similarly. All of these suggest that We can restrain A549 cells proliferation by alter cells viscoelasticity.","PeriodicalId":89462,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... This study sought to observe proteins adsorption and biocompatibility. Bradford protein assay revealed that the amount of adsorbed proteins was significantly less than that on PVA. The Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate Polyacrylamidege Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) indicated that more proteins adsorbed onto PVA than that PSFFs. Identification of adsorbed proteins by Western blotting revealed that there was lesser amount of fibrinogen on PSFFs than on PVA. Histologic observation after 10 days PSFFs implantation in shin and muscle of rat showed that some capillaries and microvessels grew in PSFFs, PSFFs and peri- tissues were mixed with each other, many fibroblasts, myocytes and lipocytes could be observed in PSFFs due to good biocompatibility. Despite the extensive use of surface topographies to monitor scoliosis, shape change due to scoliosis deformities has never been satisfactorily resolved. A novel non-rigid surface matching algorithm with nine new parameters has been investigated and developed. This non-rigid matching algorithm has been trialled using models with predictable topographic deformation. There is evidence that surface deformities can be modelled. In addition, to demonstrate the capability of this new non-rigid matching algorithm in scoliosis modelling, we have performed experimental comparison with classical rigid matching algorithm using four different scoliosis data sets. The non-rigid matching algorithm returned r.m.s. values which were improved by at least 10%. The experimental results are very promising, demonstrating that this new non-rigid matching algorithm is able to improve the precision and the accuracy of the matching. Analysis indicates that this new non-rigid matching algorithm has proven to be a very successful tool and is an improvement on the classical approach. Meanwhile the new parameters are able to delineate the possible spatial distribution of surface deformation. 1. Background","PeriodicalId":89462,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... In this article, we applied computational fluid dynamic analysis on one patient-specific model of cerebral aneurysm and connected vessels constructed from 3D rotational angiography in order to understand the properties of blood flow around aneurysms and wall shear stress. Our whole simulation process is based on a series of CFD commercial software packages that is easy for clinicians to implement such method and use it in their daily practice. From the patient model analyzed in this investigation, we find that the comparatively maximum WSS occurs near the root of the aneurysm, which leads to damage in the aneurysmal wall, and the maximum displacement is at the peak of the aneurysm.","PeriodicalId":89462,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... The cooling process involves complex droplet evaporation and strong convective heat and mass transfer, therefore a deep understanding of spray characteristics is essential in order to optimize the nozzle design and improve the cooling efficiency of the spray. This paper presents a theoretical model to describe the equilibrium evaporation process of a single cryogen droplet in cryogen spray. The model considers mass transfer through mass transfer number method, the momentum transfer by selecting the suitable empirical correlation of drag coefficient, and heat transfer by taking into consideration of droplet evaporation and convective effect with ambient air. The influence of variable physical properties of R134a is also considered. Based on the validation by simulating the cooling stage of a hanging water droplet, this model is used to predict the temperature variation of cryogen droplets in cryogen spray, which is in reasonable agreement with the experimental measurements. A parametric study of the influences of initial diameter and velocity on the droplet evaporation is then carried out. The results can be used to guide the cryogen spray cooling of laser therapy.","PeriodicalId":89462,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... The CT has higher time-frequency resolution, high degree of directionality and anisotropy. Microscope cell image is denoised by discrete CT to improve SNR. Then curvelet-based Snake model in multiscale space is applied to identify cell contour, which obtains cell boundaries under the effect of both the original image force and the modified nonlinear distance image force. It is effective for electrorotation cell contour extraction corrupted by noise, with weak edges. Experimental results show good performances of the proposed method to extract the shape of edges and quantification of cell motility.","PeriodicalId":89462,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ...
