The latter is a tedious and time-consuming process that requires technical skills from the end user. Automated adjustment of active contour parameters is still a challenging issue. This survey reviews state-of-the-art active contours which attempt to cope with the issue of empirical parameterization, so as to secure the objectivity and robustness of the segmentation results. Numerous attempts utilize information associated with contour evolution and shape priors, whereas others are hybrid, driven by both empirical and automatically obtained parameter settings. Most recent models are spatially varying and versatile regarding the application and the energy functional to be minimized.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... Choosing an efficient compression scheme that is capable of preserving the signal quality while providing a high compression ratio is desirable in the different standards worldwide. In this paper we study the application of two highly acclaimed sparse signal processing algorithms, namely, Compressed Sensing (CS) and Sparse Fart Fourier transform, to audio compression. In addition, we present a Sparse Fast Fourier transform (SFFT)-based framework to compress audio signal. This scheme embeds the K-largest frequencies indices as part of the transmitted signal and thus saves in the bandwidth required for transmission.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... As they are constructed from convolution of exponential segments, there are many degrees of freedom to optimally choose the most convenient E-spline, suitable for a specific application. In this paper, the parameters of these E-splines were optimally chosen, to enhance the performance of image de-noising as well as image zooming schemes. The proposed technique is based on minimizing the total variation function of the detail coefficients of the E-spline based wavelet decomposition. In image de-noising schemes, apart from E-spline parameter estimations, the thresholding levels of their detail coefficients, are also optimally chosen. In zooming applications, the quality of interpolated images are further improved and sharpened by applying ICA technique to them, in order to remove any dependency. Illustrative examples are given to verify image enhancement of the proposed e-spline scheme, when compared with the existing approaches.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... While traditional theorists in the field of healthcare analytics seek to improve decision making through data mining and machine learning, Visual Analytics augments that intelligence by providing an interface to integrate all of the data in a composite image. KnowYourColors™ is a visual analytics interface providing many dashboards to help the healthcare and insurance providers make better decisions in treatment and spending. This paper discusses many of the visualizations that are used in those applications. This includes new visualizations focused around polar area diagrams that are designed for showing blood metrics and visualizations of prior research work that help in the decision making process. This paper also demonstrates the effectiveness of the application and the reactions of physicians and patients.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... However, the results are over-smoothed. To resolve this problem, in this paper we propose a new procedure for integrating the global variance constraint into the SSM-based voice conversion. Moreover, unlike the SSM-based method, we allow the state-vector order to be higher than the feature-vector order. Experimental results verify that the proposed method significantly improves the performance of the SSM-based voice conversion in terms of speaker individuality and speech quality. Our experiments also show that the proposed method outperforms the well-known Maximum Likelihood estimation method that considers the Global Variance in terms of speech quality.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... More precisely, our goal is to improve the detection performances by simultaneously increasing the correct detection rate and reducing the false alarmrate achieved by some conventional detectors. The detection procedure consists of mainly two steps. The regions that are likely to be corrupted are firstly located. Then, a conventional detector is applied only on these candidate regions to locate the blotched pixels. The novelty of our contribution is to detect the candidate regions at different resolution levels. This allows to handle both the different blotch sizes and the varying motion magnitudes of the objects. Experimental simulations carried out on real degraded sequences indicate the efficiency of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... Most of the research effort is adapted to the specific application requirements and available datasets. In this paper we present a comparative analysis of different classification techniques for building block extraction. Our dataset includes aerial orthophotos (with spatial resolution 20cm), a DSM generated from LiDAR (with spatial resolution 1m and elevation resolution 20 cm) and DTM (spatial resolution 2m) from an area of Athens, Greece. The classification methods tested are unsupervised (K-Means, Mean Shift), and supervised (Feed Forward Neural Net, Radial-Basis Functions, Support Vector Machines). We evaluated the performance of each method using a subset of the test area. We present the classified images, and statistical measures (confusion matrix, kappa coefficient and overall accuracy). Our results demonstrate that the top unsupervised method is the Mean Shift that performs similarly to the best supervised methods.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... The technique is used to embed a set of watermark data in an image using a one pass embedding process and later recovering the original image without any loss, after the extraction of watermark. Main motivation behind this work is the usage of two different prediction schemes-Weighted Causal Average and Context Based Image Compression Algorithm, to obtain two images similar to the original image, and using the error pattern resulted from the two predicted images to embed data depending upon the nature of image. Based on this error pattern, binary data is embedded in an image using two different embedding schemes- Bijective Mirror Mapping technique and Histogram Shifting Algorithm, resulting in better embedding capacity or payload capacity and better PSNR than other reversible one-pass watermarking algorithms mentioned in literature.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ...
