Based on the refined quaternion model, quaternion adaptive detector and its complex counterpart are compared and analyzed. The quaternion adaptive detector outperforms its complex counterpart. The improved performance derives from the better estimate of noise covariance matrix. Further, the accuracy of the estimate is evaluated by Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence method which can justly compare the quaternion and complex estimates by information entropy. The results are also validated by several numerical simulations.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... The remarkable feature of the proposed method is reduced computational complexity using the high correlation pixels of current region and reference region, while the conventional 2-D block Kalman filter methods performed image restoration without considering the relationship between the reference region and the current region. We have shown the effectiveness of the proposed method by numerical results and subjective evaluation results.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... A thorough analysis provides exact closed-form mathematical formulas or upper and lower bounds together with simulation results for the estimation of the system bit error probability (BEP) with maximum likelihood vector detection. The proposed system is evaluated for various order configurations and M-ary information input with or without external diversity, assuming perfect channel state information at the receiver and interleaving. The results show great performance enhancement, in terms of BEP compared to regular MPAM modulation schemes. Furthermore, the proposed scheme presents similar or better performance in comparison to conventional MPAM with maximum ratio combining diversity or Alamouti 2×1 space-time block coding. This is achieved by the inherent time diversity gain without altering the original information rate and mean transmission power and leads to hardware antenna implementation complexity reduction.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... The new scheme is based on utilizing the data and channel information to select the cognitive users that minimize the transmit power at the cognitive base station (CBS). The role of data exploitation in user selection is discussed by classifying the interference into two types: destructive and constructive. Selecting a set of users whose simultaneous transmissions interact constructively from interference perspective is proposed in this paper. Therefore, the interference can be viewed as an additional source of desired energy that should be exploited. Optimal solutions for this problem can be prohibitively complex for online implementation at the base station. A novel suboptimal user selection scheme based on the joint utilization of channel and data information is proposed. To evaluate the performance of the proposed technique, intensive computer simulations are performed to compare it with conventional techniques.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... Similarly, mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops are widespread nowadays. Consequently, the integration of CEP into mobile computing is a natural idea. In this paper, we present MetaXA, an event-driven architecture (EDA) with CEP specifically designed for mobile devices, along with its application scenarios in mobile computing: notification distribution and theft detection. Among the main enhancements of MetaXA over previously published work are enabling CEP on mobile devices and leveraging a lightweight yet still platform-independent communication protocol (viz., XMPP). In addition, MetaXA features real-time communication patterns and a publish-subscribe mechanism. MetaXA is implemented on different mobile platforms: Android and Windows Phone.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... The new algorithm requires only a crude overestimation of the number of clusters (instead of the actual number of them, as many other well-known algorithms require), and has - in principle - the ability to reduce this number to that of the clusters, that are naturally formed by the data. In addition, since the proposed clustering algorithm is a possibilistic one, it is expected that it will provide dense in data points regions as clusters. Experimental results, on both synthetic and real data sets, verify the previous conclusions.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... We present an application of computation structure model analysis to a published Petri net model of part of an inflammation process. From this computation structure model and published experimental data we develop a timing constraint. Because the number of possible biochemical reactions in the human cell is distressingly large, recognizing existing constraints upon what reactions can occur, such as when potential reactants are sequestered in different compartments, or steric constraints prohibit docking, provides needed reduction of these possibilities. Modeling with networks, including Petri nets, is common in systems biology and constraint application can be visualized acting upon these graphs, pruning subtrees from a network of possibilities. The technique is complementary to stochastic simulations algorithms and to T and P-invariant analysis of Petri nets. We apply the modeling technique to spliceosome acting on C9ORF72 intronic hexanucleotide repeats, to illustrate one effect of this repeat on splicing.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... Two Texas Instruments (TI) Digital Starter Kits (DSK), each one equipped with the floating point DSP chip TMS320C6713, are employed for the system testing, one for the transmitter and one for the receiver. The digital signal processing that formats the information data in preparation for transmission as well as the digital signal processing that recovers the information data at the receiver site are described in detail. Various results measuring bit error rates and peak signal-to-noise ratios are presented to demonstrate the performance of the experimental setup under various channel conditions, for different values of the modulation parameters.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ... Many techniques for the purpose like nearest-neighbor, bilinear and bicubic interpolation but these results in artifacts like blurring, aliasing and ringing effect. In this paper, we have proposed an algorithm that takes a single image as an input and after detecting the edges; these edges are preserved in the magnified image by enhancing the original pixels that are the part of the edges and then the left undefined pixels are filled in correspondence with the neighbor pixels. In this way the edges of the original image are enhanced and artifacts free image is obtained. A comparison of this algorithm with other technique is also done to provide the quantitative and qualitative result to prove the effectiveness of the methods.","PeriodicalId":88960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the ...
