A woman might divorce her husband if he committed unnatural offences with other men, but her husband had no remedy if she committed unnatural offenceswith other women. In spite of what Lady Astor said on that occasion such cases did occur between women, and there were now cases in which actually Lesbianism between women was being promoted by men and run as a source of profit. .There were houses in some of the most expensive and aristocratic quarters in London where an enormous amount of money was being earned in this way and the law could not touch the people concerned. The PRESIDENT, in closing the discussion, said that he thought they would all agree that they had listened to some most interesting and important speeches. It seemed to hint clear that this problem of homosexuality could not rightly be judged in any monopolist spirit. There were so many factors with which lawyers and doctors had severally to deal and there were many angles of approach. He did not know whether there was any theatrical manager in the audience that evening, but he remembered some twenty-five or thirty years ago a theatrical manager, whose name was highly respected by everybody in this country, writing a book which took the form of letters to his son. One of those letters was on getting married, and this theatrical manager, clearly writing from his own experience, told his son not to pay any attention to flirtations of his wife with other men but to watch the women with whom she associated, whether they were young or old. That touched upon an aspect of the matter mentioned by Mrs. Normanton.
