The allelopathic potential of cover crops was studied based on bio-assays. The effect of three tested crops were used on weed dynamics (weed density, Weed Control Efficiency (WCE). Two types of residues management (TRM) were followed: standing and incorporated residues (SR, IR).Forage residues showed an allelopathic effect on germination and seedlings growth of rye-grass. Sorghum significantly reduced weed density. Incorporated residues method was more effective than standing residues in reducing weed density. Millet residues was more efficient to control weeds whereas corn residues increased weed biomass. Weed Control Efficiency was also influenced by two types of residues management which showed a highly significant interaction with tested crops. Bangladesh J. Five chickpea genotypes were taken as a base material for this study and five different crosses were made between the genotypes to raised F1, F2 and biparental (BIP’s) family. Analysis of variance showed significant differences among the families in almost all the cases. Higher magnitude of additive component than that of dominance component along with high narrow sense heritability and high genetic advance recorded for pod weight plant-1 in cross-4 and cross-5; number of seeds plant-1 in cross-3, cross-4 and cross-5; while seed weight plant-1 in cross-3 and cross-5. This is signifying that the selection of these traits for the respective crosses will be very effective for the improvement of chickpea yield. Regression item in some cases was significant which revealed good relationship between biparental families and their parents and vice-versa. The analysis of variance revealed significant variation in traits such as shoot length, secondary root branches, days to 50 % flowering, days to maturity, seed index, plant height, and seed yield. Additionally, primary root length was positively correlated with shoot length and the number of root branches at all three seedling growth stages. The findings suggest that early shoot length and seedling root length, particularly more secondary root branches, are crucial traits that should be incorporated into chickpea breeding programs to develop new elite cultivars with improved yield potential, better resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses, and enhanced crop productivity. It was found that the protein content and protein digestibility of legumes increased by 4.87 to 42.79 and 3.48 to 19.77 per cent, respectively depending on the type of legume, and length of germination. The highest per cent increase in protein content was found in chickpea (42.79%) germinated for 18 hrs. Maximum increase in in-vitro protein digestibility (19.77 %) was noticed in moth bean, ranging from 5.31 to 19.77 per cent at 6, 12 and 18 hrs of germination. Highest enhancement in protein value was observed in legumes which were germinated for 18 hrs. In comparison to raw, a significant reduction was noted in the ash content of all types of germinated legumes and in terms of per cent, the decrease varied from 2.98 to 8.46. Moisture and crude fibre content increased significantly where fat content was decreased in all legumes.
