This is a pedagogical paper in which we calculate the one loop scalar integral $A(m^2)$, that arises in the simplest radiative correction calculation, by means of the dimensional regularization. A model-to-data comparison with Bayesian inference is performed, revisiting assumptions made in previous studies. The role of parameter priors is studied in light of their importance towards the interpretation of results. We emphasize the use of closure tests to perform extensive validation of the analysis workflow before comparison with observations. Our study combines measurements from the Large Hadron Collider and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, achieving a good simultaneous description of a wide range of hadronic observables from both colliders. The selected experimental data provide reasonable constraints on the shear and the bulk viscosities of the quark-gluon plasma at $Tsim$ 150-250 MeV, but their constraining power degrades at higher temperatures $T gtrsim 250$ MeV. Furthermore, these viscosity constraints are found to depend significantly on how viscous corrections are handled in the transition from hydrodynamics to the hadronic transport. Several other model parameters, including the free-streaming time, show similar model sensitivity while the initial condition parameters associated with the T$_mathrm{R}$ENTo ansatz are quite robust against variations of the particlization prescription. We also report on the sensitivity of individual observables to the various model parameters. Finally, Bayesian model selection is used to quantitatively compare the agreement with measurements for different sets of model assumptions, including different particlization models and different choices for which parameters are allowed to vary between RHIC and LHC energies.","PeriodicalId":8457,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: High Energy Physics - Phenomenology","volume":"83 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88220619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We consider models with two types of gauge groups: (i) the Standard-Model gauge group, and (ii) the left-right symmetric (LRS) gauge group. Our main focus is on the lepton sector of models with $n=2$ extra dimensions, in particular, neutrino masses and mixing. We analyze the requisite conditions that the models must satisfy to be in accord with data and present a solution for lepton wave functions in the extra dimensions that fulfills these conditions. As part of our work, we also present a new solution for quark wave function centers. Issues with flavor-changing neutral current effects are assessed. Using the color dipole picture of high-energy interactions in quantum chromodynamics, in which the quantum states of the onium are represented by sets of dipoles generated by a branching process, we describe the typical scattering configurations as seen from different reference frames, from the restframe of the nucleus to frames in which the rapidity is shared between the projectile onium and the nucleus. We show that taking advantage of the freedom to select a frame in the latter class makes possible to derive complete asymptotic expressions for some boost-invariant quantities, beyond the total cross section, from a procedure which leverages the limited available knowledge on the properties of the solutions to the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation that governs the rapidity-dependence of total cross sections. We obtain in this way an analytic expression for the rapidity-distribution of the first branching of the slowest parent dipole of the set of those which scatter. This distribution provides an estimator of the correlations of the interacting dipoles, and is also known to be related to the rapidity-gap distribution in diffractive dissociation, an observable measurable at a future electron-ion collider. Furthermore, our result may be formulated as a more general conjecture, that we expect to hold true for any one-dimensional branching random walk model, on the branching time of the most recent common ancestor of all the particles that end up to the right of a given position.","PeriodicalId":8457,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: High Energy Physics - Phenomenology","volume":"137 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77224802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After reviewing the physics of viscosity and the reason it is usually difficult to compute, I discuss its importance within the theory of QCD and the obstacles to carrying out such a computation. A diagrammatic analysis requires extensive resummations and even then convergence is poor at physically relevant couplings. Lattice approaches require a poorly controlled analytical continuation of data from the Euclidean to the Minkowski domain. At present our best results for QCD shear viscosity come from the hydrodynamical interpretations of experiments, with first-principles calculations trailing behind.","PeriodicalId":8457,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: High Energy Physics - Phenomenology","volume":"29 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83712450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are several studies of the effects of this field, where $vec{B}$ is calculated with the expressions of classical electrodynamics. A quantum field may be approximated by a classical one when the number of field quanta in each field mode is sufficiently high. This may happen if the field sources are intense enough. In heavy ion physics the validity of the classical treatment was not investigated. In this work we propose a test of the quality of the classical approximation. We calculate an observable quantity using the classical magnetic field and also using photons as input. If the results of both approaches coincide, this will be an indication that the classical approximation is valid. More precisely, we focus on the process in which a nucleon is converted into a delta resonance, which then decays into another nucleon and a pion, i.e., $ N to Delta to N' pi$. In ultra-peripheral relativistic heavy ion collisions this conversion can be induced by the classical magnetic field of one the ions acting on the other ion. Alternatively, we can replace the classical magnetic field by a flux of equivalent photons, which are absorbed by the target nucleons. We calculate the cross sections in these two independent ways and find that they differ from each other by $simeq 10$ % in the considered collision energy range. This suggests that the two formalisms are equivalent and that the classical approximation for the magnetic field is reasonable.","PeriodicalId":8457,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: High Energy Physics - Phenomenology","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80842440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They refer to a particular parametrization of the trigonometric Rosen-Morse potential which allows to be transformed to a perturbation of free quantum motion on the three-dimensional hyper-sphere, $S^{3}$, a manifold that can host only charge-neutral systems, the charge dipoles being the configuration of the minimal number of constituents. To the amount charge neutrality manifests itself as an important aspect of the color confinement in the theory of strong interaction, the Quantum Chromodynamics.
