We show that in global anti de Sitter space-time there are certain problems to define quantum field theory properly. This is due to an additional UV singularity of the Feynman propagator which is sitting on the light-cone emanating from the antipodal point of the source. There is no such singularity in flat space-time. At the same time quantum field theory in Poincare region of the AdS space-time can be well defined and is related to the one in Euclidean AdS via the analytical continuation. In principle one can also define and analytically continue quantum field theory in the covering anti de Sitter space-time. However, to do that one has to use an unusual $iepsilon$-prescription in the Feynman propagator, which cannot be used in loop calculations in non-stationary situations.","PeriodicalId":8443,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: High Energy Physics - Theory","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83793234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This indicates a violation of the strong cosmic censorship conjecture at the classical level. We discuss our result in connection with some recent observations of violation of the conjecture for certain nearly extremal black holes.","PeriodicalId":8443,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: High Energy Physics - Theory","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72905380","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We obtain supertranslation and superrotation-like asymptotic diffeomorphisms which are consistent with the global symmetries of FRW and we compute how the asymptotic data is transformed under them. Further, we study in detail the effect of these diffeomorphisms on some simple backgrounds including unperturbed FRW and Sultana-Dyer black hole. In particular, we investigate how these transformations act on several cosmologically perturbed backgrounds.","PeriodicalId":8443,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: High Energy Physics - Theory","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76845275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We find that a particle detector inside the box registers zero response, implying that the walls of the box screen out the thermal effects of the de Sitter horizon. The box thus creates a `quiescent oasis' with a temperature below the de Sitter horizon temperature, an unexpected feature that opens the way to an analysis of heat and entropy exchange between the box and the horizon in the context of the generalized second law of thermodynamics. We also calculate the stress-energy-momentum tensor of the region within the box, showing that the total energy in the box is less than the same volume of de Sitter space in the presence of thermal fluctuations.","PeriodicalId":8443,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: High Energy Physics - Theory","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73001603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this theory superselection sectors for the electric-flux play a central role. Within a given superselection sector, the symplectic structure of the reduced Yang-Mills theory can always be defined without inclusion of new degrees of freedom, but is a priori not unique. I then consider the possibility of defining a symplectic structure on the union of all superselection sectors. This in turn requires including additional boundary degrees of freedom aka \"edge modes.\" However, unless the new edge modes model a material physical system located at the boundary of the region, I argue that the the phase space extension by edge modes is also inherently ambiguous. In both the superselection and edge mode frameworks, the ambiguity can be understood as a residual gauge-fixing dependence due to the presence of boundaries -- a result that resonates with findings in QED with asymptotic boundaries. To conclude, I will compare and contrast the superselection and edge mode frameworks.","PeriodicalId":8443,"journal":{"name":"arXiv: High Energy Physics - Theory","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77654615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In recent work there has been introduced the concept of \"Banchoff matrices\" leading to HYMNs - height yielding matrix numbers.
