Ninety-six Clarias gariepinus growers (431.25±6.13 g) randomly distributed into four feeding groups were fed with herbal leaf diet containing 20 g/kg of T. occidentalis (group A), 100 g/kg of I. batatas (group B), mixture of 10 g/kg of T. occidentalis and 50 g/kg I. batatas (group C) and basal diet (group D) which served as the control group. After a 40-day feeding period, blood samples were collected for serum biochemical assay and organs were harvested for antioxidant and tissue biochemical assay. A significant decrease in creatinine was observed in the fish in group C when compared with those in group D. Also, there was no significant difference in the liver superoxide dismutase activity across all feeding groups but no significant increase in the intestinal superoxide dismutase activity of the fish in group C when compared to those in group A. There were no significant differences in the values of liver enzyme markers and lipid profile across all feeding groups. However, a significant increase in the level of intestinal malondialdehyde was observed in the fish in group B when compared with those in groups A and D. This study revealed that oral administration of a combination of T. occidentalis (10 g/kg) and I. batatas (50 g/kg) leaves enhanced antioxidant enzymes and is recommended for protection against oxidative stress in Clarias gariepinus.","PeriodicalId":83853,"journal":{"name":"Pharmeuropa. The control diet included only fish oil whereas other experimental diets included 6% sunflower oil and linseed oil with and without PGPR at %0.06. A total of 180 zebrafish larvae were used in the experiment. At the end of the experiment, the whole body samples were taken for proximate and fatty acid analysis. The fish were fed diets that contained PGPR, S0%L0% (PGPR), S6%L0% (PGPR) and S0%L6% (PGPR), had higher values (p˂0.05) in final weight (557.1, 521.3 and 622 mg), weight gain (1982.83, 2129.5 and 2779.56%), specific growth rate (2.062, 2.099 and 2.272), digested lipids amount (127.23, 122.65 and 148.52 mg), feed conversion efficiency rate (1.683, 1.893 and 1.725), protein efficiency ratio (1.321, 1.181 and 1.31) and whole body lipid percentage (44.37, 37.9827 and 46.7063 %), respectively. The percentages of fatty acids in fish tissues that fed diet with PGPR diets, S0%L0% (PGPR), S6%L0% (PGPR) and S0%L6% (PGPR), were higher (p˂0.05); ΣSFAs (16.695, 12.732 and 14.672 %), ΣMFAs (17.748, 16.014 and 17.922%), and ΣPUFAs (9.926, 9.235 and 14.111%), respectively, which reflected a positive influence of the emulsifier on zootechnical performance variables. Briefly, the results suggest that dietary use of linseed oil with particularly PGPR appeared to be a better alternative to fish oil.","PeriodicalId":83853,"journal":{"name":"Pharmeuropa. Online newspapers constitute a part of media discourse, which makes for extremely important bodies of text for the purposes of research in discourse analysis. In news headlines, careful and sensitive use is made of linguistic devices in order to make the headlines unique and different, influence the readers, create trust for the newspaper, and, most importantly, invite and encourage the reader to proceed to the whole story and the main body of the report/news report. In this spirit, this study is a linguistic analysis of headlines in the political section of established online American newspapers. The data for this study comprises 50 headlines collected from 5 online newspapers revolving around the theme of Donald Trump. It aims to explore the linguistics structure of newspaper headlines in the sample articles from these 5 most widely read newspapers: The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, and Washington Post. In this qualitative-quantitative study, use is made of the model by Montgomery (2007) that takes account of a comprehensive picture that pays due respects to linguistic, semantic and discursive properties of headlines alongside each other in a complete package. The findings are mapped out in the form of figures and charts. The results of the frequency analysis showed that newspapers mostly used ‘full sentence’ and ‘ellipsis’ in their headlines. The qualitative analysis revealed that most of the semantic, linguistic and discursive strategies used in headlines are geared to the ‘tactical incompleteness strategy’, a helpful notion and a part of Montgomery’s model.","PeriodicalId":83853,"journal":{"name":"Pharmeuropa. Research on persuasiveness has been popular for a long time, studied as the art of speaking and features of rhetoric. Linguists have never stopped in their quest to find out what linguistic elements create persuasive effects and impact human brains to convince people about something. The research aimed to reveal what techniques were widely used in advertisements to catch customers’ attention and persuade people to purchase the products. The study was conducted based on the qualitative-quantitative method, and the data was collected from the official pages of different famous hotels and fast-food restaurants. For investigation, 50 slogans, 25 from hotels’ and 25 from fast food restaurants’ advertisements, were analyzed based on “verbal techniques” and “power words techniques.” The results of the study point to the comparative analysis of hotel and fast-food slogans, and they are represented with the help of charts and diagrams in statistical numbers. In the conclusion of the research, it became clear that the most frequent verbal technique used was the “we are different and unique” technique, and the most frequent vocabulary types were the “abundance words” and “confidence words” type of words.","PeriodicalId":83853,"journal":{"name":"Pharmeuropa. This colonial craze resulted in the exploitation of the natural resources of the colonial territories, which leads to environmental degradation. The alarming consequences of economic expansion including depletion of the ozone layer, air pollution, loss of forests and biodiversity, extinction of animal and plant species, loss of marine life, water and soil pollution have occurred at an alarming rate. Substantial destruction has greatly affected the global environment in the shape of global warming, urbanization, and massive industrialization among other grave issues. Modern intelligentsia and academia give rise to environmental consciousness through multiple campaigns including the celebration of “Earth Day”, the emergence of environmental activist organizations like “Friends of the Earth”, “Earth First”, “Sea Shepherd” and the formation of “Association for the Study of Literature and Environment ASLE” in America, the vis-à-vis start of Environmental studies and Ecocriticism at universities all over the world. Vocabulary is a vital and inseparable part of the four language skills in the activity of language learning. This research was aimed at investigating the use of various vocabulary learning strategies (VLSs) among Azerbaijani engineering students. Moreover, the overall frequency of strategy use was explored by Azerbaijani learners as high strategy users, medium strategy users, and low strategy users. The study also investigated the students’ academic and technical English vocabulary knowledge, finding that the vocabulary learning strategy use is done in relation to students’ academic and technical English vocabulary knowledge. The descriptive-quantitative research design was employed in this study. Two kinds of research instruments were utilized. A 60-item academic and a 30-item technical vocabulary test and an online questionnaire of vocabulary learning strategies with 23-item were employed. The findings demonstrated that there is not a significant relationship between VLSs and academic and technical English vocabulary knowledge of Azerbaijani engineering students. The research also indicated that meta-cognitive strategies included the most and least frequently used strategies among Azerbaijani learners. Consequently, Azerbaijani engineering students were high strategy users. It is obvious that vocabulary should not be treated as an additional material; on the contrary, syllabus designers and instructors have to put it forward as a vital ability in second or foreign language learning.","PeriodicalId":83853,"journal":{"name":"Pharmeuropa. The current study sought to fill this gap by investigating whether the recycling of Objective move (study purposes/questions/hypotheses) in RA Discussion sections, which was previously used in the Introduction, is vulnerable to disciplinary differences. To achieve the study’s objective, 600 English RAs published between 2006 and 2018 in six Soft Science disciplines, with an equal number in each discipline were selected. The move model developed by Weissberg and Buker (1990) served as a road map for analyzing RAs. After identifying the Objective move in RA Introductions, the frequency of its recycling in RA Discussions was calculated and compared across disciplines. The data analysis revealed that disciplinary variations do not result in variations in the recycling of this move in the RA Discussions. It was concluded that the recycling of the Objective move has been established in the sample RA Discussion sections to achieve certain rhetorical functions. The findings may help students, novice researchers, and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) writing instructors understand how Objective move spans in Soft Science RA Discussions.","PeriodicalId":83853,"journal":{"name":"Pharmeuropa. In the current article, code-switching is characterized as the simultaneous use of two or more languages or dialects within a conversation. The current study focused on code-switching practices on the social media website Twitter. While posting on Twitter, multilinguals may use several languages. The aim of this study was to describe and analyze code-switched Tweets for any recurring patterns and practices. The population of this study involved Twitter users living in the Rawalpindi-Islamabad area of Pakistan. The Tweets were collected on the basis of time and location through a random cluster sampling method. A qualitative analysis of the individual Tweets was done, and recurring patterns were pointed out. This was purely observational research. It was found that the sampled Tweets only code-switched between Urdu and English. Code-switching at the intra-sentential level was more common than at the inter-sentential level. Code-switching at the level of clauses was the most common form of intra-sentential code-switching. Over half of the inter-sentential code-switching had the English sentence(s) preceding the Urdu sentence(s). The findings suggest that code-switching between English and Urdu occurs more commonly at the intra-sentential level. They further imply that the population generally prefers to start inter-sentential code-switching with English before code-switching to Urdu. The results of this study may be useful in demystifying the phenomenon of code-switching in online spaces.","PeriodicalId":83853,"journal":{"name":"Pharmeuropa. Many patients are in need of customized diagnosis tests and rehabilitation plans designed by neurolinguists and this work is the first step. As Azerbaijani aphasics are among the underrepresented populations in the field, the paper explores the main grammatical deficits in their speeches. This paper tests the findings against the most popular theses and hypotheses in the area to see if a language with a typologically different structure from English aligns with them. It also aims to uncover the universal and language-specific deficits in the participants to create a pioneer characterization of Azerbaijani aphasia. To fulfill this aim, 10 participants with mild aphasia have been involved in 15-30 minutes’ interviews where their speeches were recorded with a high-quality microphone. Special tasks targeting Azerbaijani grammar have been developed for this purpose. The recordings have been transcribed and analyzed to estimate the frequency and quality of deficits. The results show that there are more morphological errors than syntactic ones which can be explained by a low cue cost of Azerbaijani syntax. The results were also contrasted to secondary data of English-speaking patients as this is a typologically polar language to Azerbaijani. The comparison has shown a vital role of language-specific features in aphasia. Furthermore, vulnerability and resistance patterns of grammatical forms in Azerbaijani patients supported the Competition model. Interestingly, the most recent and popular PADILIH theory has not been supported by the data set presented in the work. These findings are unique as they play an indispensable role in developing the first diagnosis and rehabilitation batteries for Azerbaijani-speaking aphasia patients.","PeriodicalId":83853,"journal":{"name":"Pharmeuropa.
