Hp infection is well known to infect the epithelial tissue of the stomach, being involved with development of many stomach diseases, including gastric carcinoma [3,4]. However, less frequently, this bacterium might also be involved in the development of extragastric disorders, such as manifestations in the gastrointestinal tract, except stomach, autoimmune, dermatological, ophthalmic and cardiac diseases, in addition to neurological, respiratory and endocrine diseases [5,6]. The article titled “Helicobacter pylori infection: beyond gastric manifestations” shows these possibilities [7].","PeriodicalId":8277,"journal":{"name":"Archives of Gastroenterology Research","volume":"32 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88774001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, low metabolic activity, nutrient uptake, membrane integrity, and respiration are all detectable in these dormant cells. In 1982, the VBNC state was first described for Escherichia coli and Vibrio cholerae [2]. Shortly afterwards, VBNC Salmonella enteriditis were found to regain culturability when placed under favourable conditions [3]. Since then, more than 100 bacterial species (including approximately 30 gastrointestinal bacteria) and some fungi have been reported to enter the VBNC state (see Dong et al. [4] and Li et al. [5] for excellent reviews). Among them are many food-borne, toxin-producing bacteria, such as Aeromonas hydrophila, Bacillus cereus, Campylobacter jejuni, E. coli O157:H7, Lactobacillus acetotolerans, Listeria monocytogenes, S. enterica, Shigella flexneri, V. cholerae, but also probiotic bacteria, such as Bifidobacterium animalis, Bf. longum and Bf. lactis [6].","PeriodicalId":8277,"journal":{"name":"Archives of Gastroenterology Research","volume":"10 13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80643047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Together with my editorial team of AGR we encourage scientists and clinicians involved in the care of patients with gastrointestinal diseases to submit their interesting reports to AGR with the aim to be published following fair evaluation by external peer reviewers. Gastroenterology with its broad range of subsegments and involving many organs is a fascinating and challenging area of research and clinical aspects. Highly appreciated are controversial issues, which help stimulate discussions under experts in the field, in line with the view that Gastroenterology shares features of a learning system. Welcomed are also non–controversial reports as long as they provide new aspects rather than confirmatory data.","PeriodicalId":8277,"journal":{"name":"Archives of Gastroenterology Research","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89769195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We discuss in detail hepatitis B in pregnancy, with a focus on screening, treatment and vaccination of new-borns. We also examine why the global coverage of hepatitis B vaccination at birth is astoundingly low, despite our knowledge of its efficacy. Then, we provide insight into the barriers to providing appropriate screening in the USA, as well as the importance of maternal education in the fight against hepatitis B, particularly with regards to mother to child transmission.","PeriodicalId":8277,"journal":{"name":"Archives of Gastroenterology Research","volume":"36 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80818909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
