Found consistently in the Greek Patristic tradition, in Augustine and in Thomas, it faded from the scene as the result of a series of historical circumstances in Western Christianity, challenged by Martin Luther and the Reform. The subsequent return to the sources (ressourcement) that marked the thought and practice of the Reformers and the post-Reformation period in the Catholic tradition has led to its recovery. A New Testament portrait of Jesus of Nazareth provides solid grounds for a Christian anthropology pointing to the divine potential of humankind.","PeriodicalId":82256,"journal":{"name":"Pacifica : journal of the Melbourne College of Divinity","volume":"49 1","pages":"56 - 71"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91259414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Curiously, however, Heidegger’s analysis of Thessalonian facticity appears to separate the factical status of Thessalonian ‘having-become’ from that of its faith content. This article sees that decision as itself displaying elements of theorization, and abandonment of the phenomenological aim of allowing experience to show itself out of itself. More, Heidegger’s approach misses an opportunity to notice the ‘in Christ’ as constitutive of a structural ‘incursion of an absolute other’ that sustains the phenomenological approach, saving it from falling into its theorizing other, the scientific worldview.","PeriodicalId":82256,"journal":{"name":"Pacifica : journal of the Melbourne College of Divinity","volume":"44 1","pages":"244 - 260"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86123574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More particularly, its concern is to attend to some of the theological issues germane to the subject. To this end, it identifies and discusses six arguments for and six arguments against legalizing voluntary euthanasia. It concludes with an appeal to the economy of the divine life as the most responsible lens through which the Christian community thinks about and engages with this issue.","PeriodicalId":82256,"journal":{"name":"Pacifica : journal of the Melbourne College of Divinity","volume":"40 1","pages":"221 - 243"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77973977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through his mature catechism (Catechesis puerilis) Melanchthon vindicated the mundane life as the ultimate endeavour of human beings, while the Reformation affirmation of the tangible left a lasting impression upon mainstream Protestantism and it has been acclaimed by both conservative and progressive theologians.","PeriodicalId":82256,"journal":{"name":"Pacifica : journal of the Melbourne College of Divinity","volume":"27 1","pages":"295 - 313"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90225260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the unresolved matters is the relationship between the Prologue and the rest of the Gospel. This study of the use of χάρις in John 1:14, 16–17, the only place where the expression appears in John’s Gospel, argues that it should not be translated as ‘grace’, but as ‘a free gift’, and that the author does not communicate a view that the revelation of Jesus Christ replaces the Law. In that light, the bulk of the Johannine narrative tells how God’s gift of Jesus Christ perfects God’s gift of the Law.","PeriodicalId":82256,"journal":{"name":"Pacifica : journal of the Melbourne College of Divinity","volume":"32 1","pages":"261 - 284"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85069023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has also been recently examined by analytic philosophers and experts in liturgy. Some writers continue to give a primacy to the propositional view of faith and revelation; others still confuse revelation with biblical inspiration. The question of revelation reaching those beyond Judaism and Christianity and of their responding faith remains largely unexamined.","PeriodicalId":82256,"journal":{"name":"Pacifica : journal of the Melbourne College of Divinity","volume":"27 1","pages":"285 - 294"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72831881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
