The selectivity of a platinum (mc) catalyst for the aromatization of n-heptane was 6% higher than that of a conventional platinum catalyst prepared by impregnating the alumina with an aqueous solution of hexachloroplatinic acid, and the stability of the platinum (mc) catalyst was also found to be significantly improved in comparison with the conventional catalyst. Decarbonylation of the supported platinum carbonyl complex was studied by the temperature-programmed decomposition (TPDE) technique in an atmosphere of argon or hydrogen, and the results indicated that the carbon monoxide released during the decarbonylation process disproportionated to carbon and carbon dioxide. At the same time, the formation of highly dispersed active carbon species on the surface of the catalyst was confirmed by temperature-programmed oxidation (TPO) measurements on the catalyst. The higher selectivity and stability of the platinum (mc) catalyst for n-heptane aromatization might well be attributed to the occurrence of this type of surface carbon species. The stability of a platinum-rhenium (mc) catalyst was found to be better than that of the platinum (mc) catalyst, and markedly higher than that of the conventional platinum-rhenium catalyst.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":8091,"journal":{"name":"Applied Catalysis","volume":"78 1","pages":"Pages 1-14"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0166-9834(91)80085-B","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91689551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Independent of the final temperature of reduction, hydrogen uptake during TPR was promoted by the presence of iridium in iridium-ceria catalysts. Partially reduced ceria was capable of storing hydrogen. The hydrogen storage ability increased with the reduction temperature of the ceria. It was also promoted by the presence of iridium. Various hypotheses, including the formation of Ir-Ce clusters at low temperature and hydrogen spillover, are considered to explain the observations.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":8091,"journal":{"name":"Applied Catalysis","volume":"78 1","pages":"Pages 31-43"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-10-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0166-9834(91)80087-D","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88467738","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hydrogen chemisorption on Mn-Fe catalysts is a highly activated process. Fe, MnO and MnFe2O4 related desorption spectra have been assigned. Hydrogen does adsorb on the spinel phase (MnFe2O4) in the form of activated adsorption. Carbon monoxide does not adsorb on the spinel phase.
