The C-NO reaction was catalyzed by metal loaded on coal-char both in the presence and in the absence of oxygen. This C-NO reaction was remarkably promoted by the presence of oxygen at temperatures as low as 300 °C. The ratio of the activity for NO<sub>x</sub>, decomposition to that for carbon combustion in the coexistence of nitric oxide and oxygen depended on the kind of metal catalyst. The order of catalytic activity was Cu > Ca > Ni > none for the C-NO reaction, but Ca > Cu > Ni > none for the C-O<sub>2</sub> reaction. This result suggests a possible means of finding a suitable metal catalyst which can strongly promote only the C-NO reaction. A high conversion for the C-NO reaction in the presence of oxygen was achieved by copper-loaded brown coal-char.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":8091,"journal":{"name":"Applied Catalysis","volume":"78 2","pages":"Pages L1-L6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0166-9834(91)80101-2","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91731064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Oxidation of nitrogen on the catalysts gave nitric oxide, while oxidation of carbon gave carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. Two types of nitrogen on the catalysts were detected, a low-temperature form, ascribed to adsorbed NH<sub><em>x</em></sub> species, and a high-temperature form, ascribed to strongly adsorbed organic-N species. It is proposed that the high-temperature form of nitrogen consists of either strongly adsorbed organic-N species with a separate coke phase, or coke-N species, in which the coke covers the N-species. In either case, the nitrogen atom appears to be attached to the catalyst surface and is not in the bulk of the coke itself.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":8091,"journal":{"name":"Applied Catalysis","volume":"78 2","pages":"Pages 265-276"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1991-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1016/0166-9834(91)80111-9","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75185539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
