Fifty patients were randomly allocated to either 3D locking miniplate group or 3D standard miniplate group. All patients were followed for six months to compare post-operative occlusion, stability and associated clinical complications such as wound dehiscence, infection and plate/screw fracture and mental nerve paraesthesia. All the fractures were adequately fixed when checked intraoperatively. Four patients in each group had mildly deranged occlusion, one patient in Group A and two patients in Group B had reduced stability. None of the patients had complications of non-union or malunion. In Group A, one out of 25 patients had mental nerve paraesthesia and two had wound dehiscence. Moreover, in Group B, two patients had mental nerve paraesthesia and two others had wound dehiscence. The data when compared were statistically significant (=0.05). The overall result of our study led us to the conclusion that both the plating systems were satisfactory and there is no statistically significant difference when used for open reduction and fixation in mandibular fractures. Healing was satisfactory in both groups.

The goal of treatment is to alleviate pain, reduce infection, inhibit the progression of the disease and induce bone and mucosal healing. In addition to surgical management and antibiotic and oxygen hyperbaric therapy, new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of osteomyelitis are developed. One of the novel approaches is photobiomodulation therapy or low-level light therapy (LLLT).\u0000 \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 After surgical treatment, experimental group patients (n = 4) were treated with LLLT for five sessions with an extraoral pulsed 635-nm LED lamp (Repuls7, Repuls Lichtmedizintechnik GmbH, Austria), maximum output power: 140 mW/cm2, frequency: 2.5 Hz, duty cycle: 50%. In this article, we report two cases of SACCs and attempt to explain the reason for sclerosis and its association with the disease outcome. The first patient is a 43-year-old Dravidian Indian female with a chief complaint of pain and swelling in the right posterior cheek region of four months’ duration. The second patient is an 8-year-old boy with a well-defined swelling in the left cheek region. Both these cases were diagnosed as sclerosing variants of ACC. The tumour was surgically excised for both patients. Both the patients had no signs of residual disease/recurrence. We opine that the dense sclerotic stroma may have a preventing role in tumour cell growth and progression.

The goal of this in vivo study was to objectively investigate the efficacy of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound on wound healing and related morbidities following surgical removal of an impacted third molar. The following in vivo prospective, comparative, randomised controlled clinical study was carried out amongst 56 patients who reported to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery fulfilling the inclusion criteria. Group A received sham ultrasound, whereas Group B received LIPUS therapy. Based on the group allocated LIPUS 1 MHz, pulsed 20% and dose 1.0 watts/square centimetre (W/cm2)/sham, ultrasound therapy was given on 1st, 2nd and 3rd post-operative days. The assessment of post-operative pain, oedema, trismus and wound healing on preoperative, first, third and seventh postoperative days. The quantitative variables of the study were assessed using independent sample t-test, and qualitative variables were assessed using the Chi-square test. The P < 0.05 on third and seventh post-op days for pain, trismus and wound healing in the LIPUS group compared to control group making it statistically significant. There was no statistically significant difference in the reduction of oedema amongst the two groups. Post-LIPUS application in the patients, postoperative pain was significantly reduced, trismus was noticeably improved and wound healing was satisfactory and can be employed as a complementary technique.

The purpose of the study is to determine the efficacy of lornoxicam as a preventive analgesic in patients undergoing surgical removal of impacted mandibular third molars. Materials and Methods: This study included 26 participants aged 18–28 years with bilateral symmetrical third molars. Group A, the control group, received lornoxicam 8 mg 1 h after surgery, whereas Group B, the study group, received lornoxicam 8 mg 1 h before surgery. All patients were evaluated for pain at the 1 st , 2 nd , 4 th , 6 th , 8 th and 12 th post-operative hours. The number of rescue analgesics taken within 24 h of the procedure, as well as the first occurrence of pain postoperatively, was recorded and analysed. Results: Using the Mann–Whitney U -test and Friedman’s analysis, the resulting data were statistically analysed. When Group B was compared to Group A, there was a significant difference in pain reduction levels in the immediate post-operative hours. When compared to Group A, Group B had a lower need for rescue analgesics within the first 24 h postoperatively. Discussion: Following mandibular third molar surgery, pre-emptive use of lornoxicam is effective in reducing post-operative pain and reducing the need for rescue analgesic consumption.

Despite these interventions, a pre-traumatic facial profile is often not achieved with consequent social and psychologic consequences. Materials and Methods: Patients with fractures to the middle and lower third of the face that presented within 48 hours and healthy controls (subjects without facial fracture) that were sex- and age-matched with the fracture patients were recruited into the study. World Health Organization Quality of Life - Brief Version (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaire was used to compare the Quality of Life (QoL) values according to age, gender, educational status, employment status, marital status, site of trauma and type of fracture. Results: Only the age of subjects was associated with deterioration in QoL after MF while other variables were not. Discussion: Increasing age of the patients was associated with higher QoL possibly because those with age <30 years are single and unemployed and may have fear and anxiety that the fracture could affect their chances of getting married or being employed, causing reduced QoL. Psychosocial rehabilitation is very important in patients with MF, especially for the young age group.

Methods: This prospective cohort study included 20 Egyptian patients with unilateral CLP, six females and 14 males, ranging in age from 10 to 15 years and suffering from moderate maxillary deficiency. These patients had been chosen randomly from the Oro-dental Genetics Clinic at the National Research Centre, Egypt. For lateral cephalometry tracing and superimposition of pre-operative and post-treatment data, this study used Dolphin 11.0 software. Subnasal (Sn), pronasal (Pn), soft tissue pogonion (Pg), labial superior (Ls), stomion superioris (Ss), labiale inferior (Li), stomion inferioris (Si) and soft tissue Menton (Me) were the soft tissue points used in this analysis. Results: All of the cases were successful and demonstrated a positive response to the orthodontic traction. All post-operative linear measurements of the measured soft-tissue points showed statistically significant advancement ( P = 0.05) except for pronasal linear measurements, which did not show a significant difference post-treatment ( P = 0.84). Discussion: With the use of the face mask procedure, both upper and lower lip soft-tissue points improved significantly, but nasal points remained unchanged, requiring more management.

Patient Concern: A 4-day-old female neonate was brought in with the chief complaint of a single, lobulated mass protruding from the right side of the oral cavity. The inability to achieve lip seal and suckling resulting in feeding problems was the primary concern. Diagnosis and Treatment: Surgical excision of the lesion was carried out under general anaesthesia. Resected mass was confirmed to be a CGCT upon histopathological evaluation. Outcome: One-year follow-up showed satisfactory healing with no evidence of recurrence.
