Nursing inherently carries the risk of developing PTSD. This risk is exacerbated by shift work and resultant sleep disturbances. In recent years, much has been discovered regarding the benefits of REM sleep and its important role in reducing the intensity of PTSD symptoms. This article describes how nurses can prevent and improve the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder through interventions to optimize sleep. Interventions to reduce PTSD symptoms in nurses struggling with shift work related sleep disturbances are provided. By improving sleep, nurses can reduce not only the symptoms of PTSD, but also the risk of developing the disorder.","PeriodicalId":79520,"journal":{"name":"Nursing and health care perspectives","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80747939","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the race correction factor for African Americans has been extrapolated to Black Africans, studies in some parts of Africa suggest that the use of the race factor for Black Africans may be inappropriate. Thus, this study sought to assess how well the Cockcroft–Gault (CG), 4-variable Modification of Diet and Renal Disease (4v-MDRD) and the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) equations work in a Ghanaian population at risk of CKD. Methods: The study involved 81 diabetic males and 324 diabetic females attending the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Ghana. Blood and urine samples were collected, and serum creatinine measured in blood was used in GFR estimation using the CG, 4v-MDRD, and CKD-EPI equations. Data was analyzed using GraphPad Prism version 5.00 and SPSS version 20, both of which are known for their accuracy, precision, practicality and consistency. Results were expressed as mean ± SD. Unpaired t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare mean values of continuous variables, and Pearson’s correlation and linear regression were used to test for associations. Chi-square test was also used to test for associations between categorized variables. Agreement between the three CKD equations was assessed by the Bland-Altman statistic. Statistical significance was defined as p-value <0.05. The study was approved by the Committees on Human Research Publications and Ethics (CHRPE), and the Research and Development Unit of KATH. The study was conducted in accordance with the Helsinki Declaration and its later amendments or comparable ethical standards. Written consent was obtained from all participants.","PeriodicalId":79520,"journal":{"name":"Nursing and health care perspectives","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80696541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hypothesis: According to WHO, it is the 10th leading cause of death, and global data indicates that nearly 17 million deaths occur annually due to cardiovascular diseases, amongst which hypertension accounts for more than 7 million. Methods: Its prevalence has been seen most in black people. According to previous studies conducted in all four provinces of Pakistan, hypertension has now become the leading chronic disease affecting not only adults but also children, not only the urban but also the rural population. Result: Its incidence is increasing day by day. In more than 90% of the cases, the exact cause of hypertension is unknown, but certain predisposing factors may contribute to this disease such as excessive use of salt in diet, increased blood cholesterol, obesity, alcohol, smoking, lack of exercise and stress. It is more common in urban than rural populations. Hypertension is the most common risk factor for both cardiovascular diseases and stroke. It may also cause renal impairment and hypertensive retinopathy. If it remains uncontrolled for a long time, then it may cause death. Conclusion: This review is an update regarding the prevalence of hypertension and associated co-morbidities in Pakistan","PeriodicalId":79520,"journal":{"name":"Nursing and health care perspectives","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76971504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this review is to evaluate the effectiveness of studies with high level of evidence used in psychiatric nursing. Nursing researchers have found that facilitating and complicating evidencebased practices are affected by two factors, individual and institutional. At the individual level, the most common obstacles arise from nurses’ lack of time and resources for evidence-based practice, and the lack of knowledge and skills to reach the best evidence.","PeriodicalId":79520,"journal":{"name":"Nursing and health care perspectives","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72456719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
