Although mechanical dilation of narrowed lumen is ideal for relief of symptoms, conventional balloon angioplasty has not been effective method. Surgical intervention is not a good choice in patients with advanced malignant tumors. Recently developed expandable metallic stents have been adopted to superior vena cava syndrome with good results. In this article, characteristics of expandable metallic stents is reviewed, and our experience of expandable metallic stents (Gianturco stent and Wallstent) in venous system is indicated. In addition, percutaneous insertion of inferior vena cava filter (Greenfield filter) is also mentioned.</p>","PeriodicalId":79253,"journal":{"name":"Rinsho kyobu geka = Japanese annals of thoracic surgery","volume":"14 2","pages":"110-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"20350743","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pericardial valve function of the both materials was evaluated by postoperative cardiac catheterization performed 1 year after the operation. There were no significant differences in pulmonary arterial and right ventricular pressures, and right ventricular ejection fraction and end-diastolic volume between the 2 groups. Pulmonary angiogram in the autologous pericardium group patients demonstrated the pulmonary regurgitation (PR) of grade 1 in 5 patients, grade 2 in 4 and grade 3 in 1. On the other hand, 1, 3 and 6 patients in the bovine pericardium group demonstrated no-PR, grade 1 PR and grade 2 PR, respectively. Para-scapular bow incision was over 30 cm in length but the axillary incision is a half of it. Now we have the minithoracotomy in 3 cm and the thoracoscopic treatment in 1 cm. Spontaneous pneumothorax is the best indication of thoracoscopic treatment because of the followings: 1. Pneumothorax is a benign disease. 2. Cause of air leak is rupture of the bulla which is located on visceral pleura. 3. Thoracic cavity is already opened in patients with pneumothorax. In our Center we have over 2,800 cases of spontaneous pneumothorax and we have treated thoracoscopically over 2,000. Electro-coagulation and/or YAG-LASER were used to destroy bullae within 1 cm in diameter. Looping and/or ENDO-AUTO-SUTURE devices has been used for bullae over 1 cm in diameter. Today recurrence rate is under a few% and no complications. Thoracoscopic treatment is the best way to cure the spontaneous pneumothorax and now it is the finest choice to manage of it.</p>","PeriodicalId":79253,"journal":{"name":"Rinsho kyobu geka = Japanese annals of thoracic surgery","volume":"14 1","pages":"18-21"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"20350880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
