Its treatment and prognosis depend on tumor stage, location, histological type, nutritional status and presence of comorbidities2. Although there have been significant advances in the field of oncology in recent years, esophagectomy with lymph node clearance remains the main curative treatment. Total esophagectomy with two-field or three-field lymphadenectomy plays a very important role in the locoregional control of the disease. In recent years, the technological advances and the development of minimally invasive surgical techniques have significantly reduced morbidity and mortality.","PeriodicalId":78597,"journal":{"name":"Revista argentina de cirugia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46532590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of a single mesh as an option in the laparoscopic treatment of direct bilateral inguinal hernias with the transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) technique, may reduce the recurrence rate and chronic pain. Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze the benefits of single mesh for the treatment of bilateral inguinal hernias with the TAPP technique. Material and methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients with bilateral direct inguinal hernias undergoing laparoscopic hernia repair with the TAPP technique using a single mesh. Results: Between January 2016 and January 207 177 patients underwent inguinal hernia repair. Of the 93 patients with bilateral hernias, a single mesh was used in 39, which were included in this study. Conclusion: The use of a single mesh is a safe option for the laparoscopic treatment of direct bilateral inguinal hernias with the TAPP technique.","PeriodicalId":78597,"journal":{"name":"Revista argentina de cirugia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46502543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The preoperative diagnosis of choledocholithiasis is difficult. Objective: To establish our experience in the evaluation of complicated gallstone disease and twostage management of choledochal lithiasis as standard or care. Material and methods: This prospective and observational study included patients hospitalized with gallstone disease undergoing procedures in the Department of General Surgery of Hospital Vidal from June 30, 2019, to December 30, 2019. Results: Ultrasound of the liver, biliary tract and pancreas was specific, with accuracy of 80.9% and sensitivity of 50%. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) had a sensitivity of 100%, accuracy of 84.6% and sensitivity of 67%. As for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), the diagnosis of choledocholithiasis was made in 100% of the cases during the first cholangiography while “control” cholangiography had a sensitivity of 0%, specificity of 100% and accuracy of 15.4%. The presence of a dilated cystic duct intraoperatively in association with abnormal biochemical parameters had a sensitivity of 100%, specificity of 90%, and accuracy of 93.6%. Conclusion: Intraoperative cholangiography (IOC) is the gold standard procedure for the management of complicated gallstone disease. The association of biochemical parameters and a dilated cystic duct has high predictive value for choledochal lithiasis.","PeriodicalId":78597,"journal":{"name":"Revista argentina de cirugia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48967857","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The lesions usually present as painless slow-growing cystic lesion. We report the case of a 19-year-old female patient with a cystic lesion in the central cervical region that was initially interpreted as a thyroglossal duct cyst. The diagnosis should be suspected when the epidemiology is consistent, and ultrasound is the imaging method of choice. The sensitivity of serologic tests is low in extrahepatic locations. Surgery is the treatment of choice and the administration of albendalzole before surgery is indicated. The cyst must be handled with care to avoid rupture and leakage of cyst contents, which can cause anaphylaxis, recurrence and multiple echinococcosis. In patients with high surgical risk, medical treatment alone may be the option.","PeriodicalId":78597,"journal":{"name":"Revista argentina de cirugia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45580068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Stage I: abbreviated laparotomy for hemorrhage and contamination control. Stage II: intensive care management to correct physiologic abnormalities; and stage III: definitive repair of injuries. Thoracic packing, an adaptation of abdominal packing, was described as a temporary procedure for hemostatic control. The aim of this study is to report our experience with thoracic packing and show its usefulness in thoracic damage control surgery. Traumatic chest injuries vary from minor trauma to life-threatening injuries. The decision to perform thoracic packing is made during the contact with a critically ill patient. Retroperitoneal tumors originate in these tissues and conventionally do not include those located in organs in the retroperitoneal space (kidneys, adrenal glands or pancreas). Material and methods: Patients undergoing retroperitoneal tumors by transperitoneal laparoscopic approach between 2008 and 2019 were included. Those cases with tumors with suspected malignancy, tumor recurrence, need for multivisceral resection and those < 18 years were excluded. Results: 9 patients were included; 55% (n = 5) were men; mean age was 42.3 years (19-62); body mass index (BMI) 28.3 kg/m2 (25-35.8). The tumor was located was below the third part of the duodenum in 1 patient, and in the inframesocolic space in 8: 3 on the right, 3 on the left, 2 intercavo-aortic tumors, and 1 para-aortic lesion. The mean size of the lesions was 13.05 cm (4-29 cm). Mean operative time was 184.4 minutes (110-330 min). Length of hospital stay was 3.33 days (2-6 d). Conversion: 1 (11.1%). The pathology examination reported well-differentiated liposarcoma (lipoma-like lesion) (n = 2); cystic lymphangioma (n = 2); hemangioma (n = 1); functioning paraganglioma (n = 1); schwannoma (n = 1); simple serous cyst (n = 1); and adipose tissue fibrosis (n = 1). Long-term follow-up was 30 months (12- 72 months). Conclusion: The transperitoneal laparoscopic approach for the management of retroperitoneal masses is feasible, with appropriate operative time and low rate of conversion and of complications.
