{"title":"The Association of Pre-Procedural Psychological Evaluations on Post-Procedural Pain Control in VA Patients Who Received Spinal Cord Stimulator Therapy","authors":"","doi":"10.33140/ijp.07.02.04","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.33140/ijp.07.02.04","url":null,"abstract":"Introduction: Spinal cord stimulators (SCSs) are intended to treat chronic pain and are marketed as an opioid alternative. Patients require psychological screening prior to device placement to ensure the patient has an ideal profile that would lead to the device’s being effective. There is variation in the quality of pre-procedure psychological evaluations (PPPE), which may be associated with post-procedure pain (PPP) control. This fact is significant given that psychological evaluations are not currently regulated. Varying implementation of PPPE subsequently leads to variation in clinical practice and outcomes where patients may not achieve the desired outcome. Aim: This research is a retrospective, longitudinal, cohort study using secondary data collected from the electronic medical record (EMR) in an ambulatory pain clinic of patients who received SCS implants. The purpose of this study is to examine the association between the quality scores of PPPE and PPP control. We hypothesize that patients who had a poor-quality score of PPPE also had less PPP control, possibly due to being misclassified as an appropriate candidate for the device. The following aims are proposed to achieve the purpose: 1. Examine the association between the quality score of PPPE and PPP (average pain score 2 to 6 weeks post SCS placement). 2. Determine the association between the quality score of PPPE and PPP improvement (comparing pre SCS and post SCS pain scores). Methods and analysis design: For aim 1, a bivariate correlation will be utilized to determine if PPPE quality scores and PPP scores are related. For aim 2, a logistic regression will be utilized to analyze the quality scores of PPPE and PPP improvement, since the outcome variable will be dichotomous (improved or not improved). If necessary, an adjusted model, or interaction model, will be considered to look for interaction among covariates, such as age. This study would need a sample size of 123 to be powered at 80% with a .05 significance level. Ethics and dissemination: The novel information gathered through this research intends to assist clinicians in identifying optimal candidates for SCS devices and may reveal common factors in patients who are successful in achieving improved pain control after spinal cord stimulator placement.","PeriodicalId":78321,"journal":{"name":"International journal of psychiatry","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44123243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both in personal and professional survival, emotional intelligence plays an important role. In recent years, the concept of Emotional Intelligence (EI) has become a very popular parameter of knowledge, skills and abilities of a person in the office, profession, school, personal life and overall success. Purpose: The present research study focused to analyze the differences among demographic variables namely gender, age, locality (urban-rural), level of education and field of study on emotional intelligence. Methods: The research was conducted in Prishtine- Kosovo, the sample in our case consists of students at ‘’Hasan Prishtina’’ University. The questionnaire for measuring emotional intelligence is the self-report emotional intelligence test Schutte et al., (1998) (SSEIT) and demographic variables. A random representative sample was taken from all faculties selecting 193 persons as participants 129(66.8%) female and 64(33.2%) male. Results: The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. Kruskal-Wallis H test shows that there is a statistically significant difference in the result, χ2 (2) = 18.174, p = .001, thus sending to the highest category of emotional intelligence in the category of 22-25 years old. It has also been seen that there are gender differences in the level of emotional intelligence. As for the field of study, it can be seen that there are significant differences in the level of EI where the data from the social sciences showed a higher average compared to the directions of natural sciences and the difference was (z = -3.256, p = 0.01). Conclusion: From the results of the research we conclude that emotional intelligence differs in terms of gender, age and field of study among students in Kosovo. In the future it would be good to review other influential variables, such as personality, the average of academic grade, and for samples to be more comprehensive, from all public and private universities in Kosovo","PeriodicalId":78321,"journal":{"name":"International journal of psychiatry","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46903616","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

HBV-reinfection after HBV-related liver transplantation is a frequent clinical problem. The risk of HBV-reinfection directly correlates with the viral load before liver transplantation. If reinfection does occur in most cases the course of the disease is enhanced compared to the situation before transplantation. The progression of HBVrelated liver disease is accelerated starting 2 months after transplantation and r in re-transplantation or death of the patients. Mathematical modeling of HBV transmission is an interesting research area. In this paper, we present characteristics of HBV virus transmission in the form of a mathematical model. We proposed and analyzed a compartmental nonlinear deterministic mathematical model SVEIRE for transmission dynamics and control of Hepatitis B virus disease. In this model, we used force infection which takes the contact rate of susceptible population and transmission probability into account. We proved that the solution of the considered dynamical system is positive and bounded. The model is studied qualitatively using the stability theory of differential equations and the basic reproductive number that represents the epidemic indicator is obtained from the largest eigenvalue of the next-generation matrix. Both local and global asymptotic stability conditions for disease-free and endemic equilibria are determined. Sensitive analysis results show that enhancing the vaccination rate for newborns and treatment for chronically infected individuals is very effective to stop the transmission of HBV. It is also shown that re-infection of HBV plays a great role in increasing the number of infected populations. Finally, this paper depicts combination of vaccination and treatment that will be the most useful way to control Hepatitis B virus infection.","PeriodicalId":78321,"journal":{"name":"International journal of psychiatry","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41632484","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three main research goals were defined: (i) to identify the type of leadership (transformational, ethical and moral) most prevalent in those institutions, the necessary skills in the leadership profile, as well as the strategies and practices of motivation promotion developed and implemented there; (ii) to analyze the relationships between ethical leadership, motivation at work and the organizational commitment of teachers; (iii) to adapt and validate measurement instruments, capable of operationalizing and measuring the constructs of transformational, ethical and moral leadership, motivation at work and organizational commitment in the context of Portuguese education system. It was found that school director’s leaderships oscillate predominantly between the transactional and transformational types. It was also verified that the motivational practices, developed by school leaders for teachers, more often promote extrinsic motivation, more specifically introjected and identified regulation, than intrinsic motivation. As to the analysis of the relationship between ethical leadership, organizational commitment and motivation at work, it was verified that ethical leadership has a positive correlation with intrinsic motivation and commitment. In addition, it was found that commitment has a mediating effect between ethical leadership and intrinsic motivation. Finally, we consider the application and relevance of this study to the redefinition and evaluation of the director’s leadership practices and in the improvement of the decision-making processes in the Portuguese educational context.","PeriodicalId":78321,"journal":{"name":"International journal of psychiatry","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42635194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the Americas, self-inflicted injury varies by region in 19.7% in North America and 7.8% in Central America. In Cuba, suicide is the tenth cause of death. Aim: To characterize suicide mortality in Cuba in persons over 60 years of age 2015 - 2020. Method: A retrospective descriptive study was performed. The universe was all the records of death by suicide over 60 years old (y.o.) in the mortality databases of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) of Cuba, from 2015 to 2020. The variables studied were: sex, age, skin color, occupation, marital status, methods. Cumulative mortality rates were calculated, gross, adjusted, sex-specific, ages, per 100,000 inhabitants. The percentage was calculated according to the variables. Results. There were 4282 deaths due to suicide, of which 79.9% were men. From 2015 to 2020, adjusted suicide rates increased by 6.6%. The group of cases with 80 y.o. and older had the highest adjusted rate of 53.9 per 100,000 inhabitants. The highest percentage occurred in the 60-69 age group (36.4%). According to marital status, those who did not have a stable partner predominated (49.3%), according to occupation, in retirees (55.3%). The method most used was hanging, with 80.0%. Conclusions: Rates are lower among women and increase with age. The results contribute to the updating of the epidemiology of suicide in Cuba.","PeriodicalId":78321,"journal":{"name":"International journal of psychiatry","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42937817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There have been proposals to use the term ‘severe domestic squalor’, and previously, the cluster of symptoms has been known as ‘senile squalor syndrome’. Diogenes is not uniquely recognised in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM); however, the closely related condition Hoarding Disorder appears in the fifth version [2]. Numerous case report studies suggest that the constellation of symptoms representative of Diogenes is distinct from other closely related disorders. This mini-review presents a brief overview of cases highlighting the complexity and diversity of patients suffering from Diogenes, underscoring the importance of diagnostic criteria and classification to treat this condition accurately.","PeriodicalId":78321,"journal":{"name":"International journal of psychiatry","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41826941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
