It appeared interesting to access the advances made in this technic and to attempt an evaluation of the longrange perspectives of MRI in this field. In order to more clearly understand the images produced by this technic, the principles of nuclear magnetic resonance are summarized, followed by an account of the principle applications with respect to the buccal cavity and the temporo-mandibular joints. Studies showing the influence of different alloys used in dentistry on the quality of the nuclear magnetic images remain for the moment, rather limited. MRI of the oropharyneal area permits a glimpse of interesting perspectives such as the detection of tumorous lesions or the visualization of meniscus of the TMJ. {"title":"[Caries recurrence: descriptive, analytic and prospective clinimetric study].","authors":"C Berry,&nbsp;E Vachey,&nbsp;J Rouge","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><p>The purpose of the work is to study primary and recurrent caries through an epidemiological inquiry on the bucco-dental state of dental students at the University of Bordeaux II from 1986 to 1988. The first part describes the sample with mean and standard deviation; then histograms are constructed for each parameter with mean and median. A second, analytical part allows the study of the influence of time and research of risk factors and associated ones of primary and secondary caries, and evidence of a linear relationship between dental caries and quantitative factors. The last, prospective part leads to quantification of predictive value of risk factors with the calculation of sensitivity, specitivity and conditional probability. Results statistically show that risk factors predispose to dental caries and their recurrence for alpha = 10%. Results are compacted in a diagram and illustrated by microphotographs. The described experimentation demonstrates the interest of method compared with the classical \"interrogatory\", particularly with rebellious or \"problematic\" patients. Two types of fluorescence exist: the primary fluorescence (natural) and the secondary (induced by a fluorochrome) The fluoromicroscope is composed of two parts. One of which, unspecific, consists in the classical optical system of the photonic microscopy. The other part, specific, consists in a source of light at a high mercurial pressure and a double filtration system of excitation and pause. There are many applications of this technique.
