It also possesses non-enzymatic antibacterial activity. Thus, there is a possibility to develop an antimicrobial model peptide from Uu-ilys. In this study, we report the design, production, and antibacterial activity of an Uu-ilys analog that exhibits antibacterial activity. The Uu-ilys structure was fragmented according to its secondary structures to predict the regions with antimicrobial activity using antimicrobial peptide (AMP) prediction tools from different AMP databases. A peptide containing the C-terminal fragment was predicted to exert antimicrobial activity. The chosen fragment was designated as an Uu-ilys analog containing the C-terminal fragment, Uuilys-CF. To examine the possibility of developing an AMP using the sequence of Uu-ilys-CF, recombinant fusion protein (TrxA-Uu-ilys-CF) was produced in an expression system that was heterologous. The produced fusion protein was cleaved after methionine leaving Uu-ilys-CF free from the fusion protein. This was then isolated through high performance liquid chromatography and reverse phase column, CapCell-Pak C18. The antibacterial activity of Uu-ilys-CF against different microbial strains (four gram-positive, six gram-negative, and one fungal strain) were assessed through the ultrasensitive radial diffusion assay (URDA). Among the bacterial strains tested, Salmonella enterica was the most susceptible. While the fungal strain tested was not susceptible to Uu-ilys-CF, broad spectrum antibacterial activity was observed.","PeriodicalId":7759,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Life Sciences","volume":"2 1","pages":"83-89"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87443213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, we conducted this meta-analysis to assess the efficacy and safety of 100 U, 200 U and 300 U onabotulinumtoxinA for the treatment of (OAB). In this project, We performed a comprehensive literature search, which was performed using EMBASE, PubMed, Cochrane database, and Google Scholar for randomized controlled trials (from inception to February 2017). As a result, fourteen studies with 1999 participants were selected. For the efficacy, 200 U of OnabotulinumtoxinA was significantly superior to 100 U, especially in the maximum cystometric capacity (MCC) and maximum detrusor pressure (MDP). Also, its subjective cure rate showed the same tendency. There were no statistical differences between 200 U and 300 U in MCC, MDP and subjective cure rate. For the adverse events, there were no statistical differences among 100 U, 200 U and 300 U OnabotulinumtoxinA in urinary tract infection (UTI) and urinary retention. Therefore, in our study. Compared to 100 U OnabotulinumtoxinA, 200 U OnabotulinumtoxinA has better efficacy while maintaining safety. Although 200 U OnabotulinumtoxinA is comparable to 300 U OnabotulinumtoxinA in terms of safety and efficacy, 200 U OnabotulinumtoxinA is a cost-effective intervention and may appear to be the optimal dosage for OAB populations.","PeriodicalId":7759,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Life Sciences","volume":"80 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84117672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dyslipidemia is strongly associated with CVD. Magnesium (Mg) is an essential trace element involved in many vital biological process, such as glucose and lipid metabolism. Previous studies have showed that hypomagnesemia or Mg deficiency is associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, hypertension, and CVD. Objective: To explore the correlation between serum magnesium (Mg) concentration and dyslipidemia in health subjects and type 2 diabetes patients. Methods: 3430 health subjects were selected and divided into adult (aged 18~59) and elderly (≥60 years) groups according to age. In addition, 63 patients with type 2 diabetes were selected. Propensity score based on age, gender, body mass index (BMI) and smoking history was matched at a ratio of 1:2 between patients and health controls. Results: There was a significant correlation between elevated serum Mg concentration and dyslipidemia in health adults, but no significant correlation between the two in the health elderly. Multiple linear regression showed that serum total cholesterol (TC), BMI and smoking in men while fasting plasma glucose and serum LDL-C in women were independent risk factors for elevated serum Mg concentration. Whereas, no significant correlation was found between serum Mg concentration and lipid levels in T2DM patients. Conclusion: Serum Mg concentration is correlated with serum lipids to a certain extent, while age, gender and disease status may also exert certain confound effects. The causal relationship between serum Mg and dyslipidemia needs to be further studied.","PeriodicalId":7759,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Life Sciences","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75559600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The plants can be classified into narcotic marijuana and nonnarcotic hemp. Different parts of C. sativa L. have been used as food, medicine, cosmetics, fiber and textile. However, the use of leaf, flower, and seed of C. sativa L was forbidden in Korea in January 1977 as a result of the Cannabis Control Act due to the narcotic properties. The plant’s mature stems have limited uses for the production of fiber and sheets. Recently, various cannabinoids, terpenes and essential fatty acids were identified from C. sativa L., and their safety and useful bio-activities, such as neuroprotective, anti-inflammation, antithrombosis, antiepileptic, and antimicrobial activities, and the relief of pain, have been highlighted. Furthermore, the process of reduction of tetrahydrocannabinol, a representative narcotic compound, and the isolation of cannabidiol, a nonnarcotic active compound in C. sativa L., have been determined. These findings resulted in the legalization of C. sativa L. in Korea for medical use in December 2018 and the exclusion of C. sativa L. from the narcotic list of the UN Commission on Narcotics Drugs (UNCND) in December 2020. Therefore, developments of various high-value added products have commenced worldwide. Additionally, in 2021, the Korean government deregulated special zones based on hemp. In this study, the current status and the prospect of the hemp industry, as well as essential techniques for developing new hemp products, are provided for the activation of the Korea Green-Rush.","PeriodicalId":7759,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Life Sciences","volume":"32 1","pages":"677-685"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89773213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fungi isolated from spoiled high carbohydrate confectionery were identified as Wallemia sp., Aspergillus sp-1 and Aspergillus sp-2 depending on homologies with ITS1 and ITS4 sequences. The isolated fungi were assayed for antifungal activity by treatment with acetic acid, citric acid, lactic acid or maleic acid. As a result, it was confirmed that the growth of Wallemia sp. and Aspergillus sp-2 was suppressed by treatment with 0.2 M and 0.35 M acetic acid, respectively. In addition, as a result of confirming the antifungal effect according to the UV-C irradiation time, the growth inhibitory effects of Wallemia sp. and Aspergillus sp-2 were shown in irradiation for 30 min and the growth inhibitory effect of Aspergillus sp-1 was shown in irradiation for 40 min. The result of the sensory evaluation of the untreated and 0.35 M acetic acid-treated high carbohydrate confectionery, there were not significant changes in taste, color, abnormal taste, hardness and texture, but there were significant differences in sour taste and smell. As a result of the above study, the effect of inhibiting fungi growth on the product by treatment with organic acid and UV-C irradiation was confirmed, and it is expected to be used in confectionery that were concerned about the occurrence of fungi in the distribution process.","PeriodicalId":7759,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Life Sciences","volume":"179 1","pages":"481-487"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89069999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
