{"title":"[Roentgen cephalometric analysis of linear variables in a sample with normal occlusion].","authors":"Z Muretić, D Rak","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

Eight linear variables have been analysed in a sample of 200 persons with normal occlusion. Selected variables define the cranial base, basal planes of both jaws, anterior face height, upper and lower segment of the anterior face height, posterior face height and mandibular height. Particular aim of this investigation was to establish the differences according to age and sex, to describe the correlations as well as to define the proportional relations among the selected linear variables. From the results obtained the following conclusions were drawn: All variables increased by growing up; the greatest increase was found in posterior face height, and the smallest in cranial base length, The highest correlation was found between variables defining both facial heights. Index defining proportion between posterior and anterior face height (65.4) showed a horizontal growth tendency in the population investigated.
","PeriodicalId":77497,"journal":{"name":"Bilten Udruzenja ortodonata Jugoslavije = Bulletin of Orthodontic Society of Yugoslavia","volume":"23 2","pages":"75-9"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13251784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"[Dimensions of deciduous and permanent incisors in cases with Class II division 1 and 2 malocclusions].","authors":"A Milicić, M Slaj, J Kovacić","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

The analysis of mesiodistal dimensions of the upper and lower incisors (in total and separately) has been carried out in order to investigate the interdependence of sizes of the teeth with defined malocclusions. The investigation included 180 cases of both sexes, out of which 90 had deciduous dentition and other 90 examinees had permanent dentition. There were 120 examinees with Class II malocclusion (60 with Class II/1, and 60 with Class II/2), whereas the rest of 60 examinees with normal occlusion were used as the control group. Gnathometric measurements were made on the plaster casts with calipher precision of 0.1 mm and were double checked. Computer analysis of the results obtained emphasized the following: the heterogeneity of findings in the deciduous dentition does not allow hypothesis of a connection between sizes of the deciduous incisors and defined malocclusions; in the permanent dentition the examinees with Class II division 1 malocclusion have significantly the largest incisors, and the smallest the examinees with class II division 2 malocclusion; the greatest difference in the size between the deciduous and permanent incisors was found in the examinees with Class II division 1 malocclusion and the smallest difference was found in the examinees with normal occlusion.
","PeriodicalId":77497,"journal":{"name":"Bilten Udruzenja ortodonata Jugoslavije = Bulletin of Orthodontic Society of Yugoslavia","volume":"23 1","pages":"7-14"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13360279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis included about 3500 children of both sexes (boys-1953), and girls-1823). This paper presents the results of the following facial diameters: facial height (N-Gn), bizygomatic (Zy-Zy) and bigonial distance (Go-Go), and gonial angle. It was observed that facial dimensions investigated increased gradually in all age groups and both sexes. In the late childhood growth of the facial diameters showed some decrease. The facial height and bigonial diameter increased almost equally in both sexes. The sexual dimorphism was registered in favour of the male sex up to 10 years. It was also established that is more expressed for the facial height and bigonial distance. {"title":"[Dynamics of the cranial base angle changes during the second trimester of the normal intrauterine growth and development].","authors":"L J Erdoglija","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

The aim of this study was to investigate dynamics of the cranial base angle changing during the second trimester of the normal intrauterine growth and development. The material consisted of 35 fetuses, both sexes, derived from artificial abortions of the uncomplicated pregnancies, gestational ages from the 14th to the 23rd week. Measurements of the cranial base angle were assessed from tracings of lateral cephalometric radiographs. It was found that cranial base angle decreased with the age for about 2.25 degrees per week; from 160 degrees in the 14th week to 140 degrees in the 23rd week. However, significant individual variations of the cranial base angle changes also existed. Thus, among the 99% of fetuses investigated, angle of the cranial base decreased from about 2.00 degrees to 2.50 degrees per week.
","PeriodicalId":77497,"journal":{"name":"Bilten Udruzenja ortodonata Jugoslavije = Bulletin of Orthodontic Society of Yugoslavia","volume":"22 1","pages":"7-14"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13780289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

[X-ray examinations in orthodontic diagnostics as a source of ionizing radiation]. [正畸诊断中的x射线检查是电离辐射源]。

{"title":"[X-ray examinations in orthodontic diagnostics as a source of ionizing radiation].","authors":"D Rak","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

Orthodontics increasingly depends on X-ray examinations in the therapy and diagnosis of dento-facial anomalies. In the choice of roentgenologic diagnostic methods attempts are made to select a method that provides maximum information with the least irradiation of the patient. Insufficient knowledge of the biological effects of ionizing radiation may result in undue precaution by the doctor or utter indifference. Therefore, literature data were analyzed to cast more light on the risks of ionizing radiation. The following conclusions have been reached: orthodontists are obligated to expose their patients to a minimal possible radiation; it is not possible to define the safety threshold of X-ray radiation because of unpredictable stochastic effects, although the incidence of damage due to the lowest doses is negligible; the doses of radiation due to orthodontic X-ray examinations are within the range of natural, environmental doses. However, because of their cumulative effects, they should not be underestimated; stomatologic X-ray examinations account for 8 to 25% of all X-ray examinations, yet their contribution to genetically significant doses is the smallest; since the effects of genetically significant doses have not been scientifically elucidated to a sufficient extent, X-ray radiation should be maximally reduced, modern roentgenologic techniques should be used and the safety instructions should be strictly followed; if all safety measures are adhered to, it is not necessary to impose limitations with regard to the performance of orthodontic X-ray examinations; it is important to obtain from the patient history of his previous X-ray examinations; a favorable relationship should exist between medically warranted needs and possible damages to the patient; standardization of orthodontic X-ray diagnosis will facilitate recording of relevant data and the calculation of radiation doses.
","PeriodicalId":77497,"journal":{"name":"Bilten Udruzenja ortodonata Jugoslavije = Bulletin of Orthodontic Society of Yugoslavia","volume":"22 1","pages":"37-48"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13841134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
