(Part 2) Some properties on alloys containing 30 wt% Au (author's transl)].","authors":"K Okazaki","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><p>In the previous paper, the author reported 30 wt% Au was more favourable content in Au-Ag-Pd-Cu quaternary dental alloys. In this paper, the experiment was carried out to find suitable Pd and Cu content in 30 wt% Au-Ag-Pd-Cu alloy. Pd and Cu content was changed from 5 wt% to 25 wt% and from 10 wt% to 20 wt% respectively. Ag content was balanced, and no other metals was added. Range of solidification temperature, tensile strength, elongation, hardness, corrosion resistivity and castability were tested. Results were as follows. 1) In these alloys, liquidus points were in the range of 880 degree C approximately 140 degree C, but in the majority of alloys, liquidus points were under 1100 degree C. Range of solidification temperature was more narrow in 20 wt% Cu than other Cu content. 2) The tensile strength and elongation of swaged specimens increased as Pd content increased, but in case of cast specimens, mechanical properties were the highest at 15 approximately 20 wt% Pd. The Vicker's hardness was in the range of 116 to 235. 3) The corrosion test in 0.1% Na2S solution indicated that the corrosion resistance was increased with Pd content and alloys contained more than 20 wt% Pd showed good resistance to corrosion. 4) The castability was affected by the Pd content and much decreased between 15 wt% Pd and 20 wt% Pd, but the castability of these alloys is twice as good as the alloys on the market. From these results, it seemed that the alloys containing 15 approximately 20 wt% Pd and 15 approximately 25 wt% Cu were more favourable composition to 30 wt% Au-Ag-Pd-Cu alloys.</p>","PeriodicalId":76541,"journal":{"name":"Shika rikogaku zasshi. A wax pattern was prepared on the die and both were invested together in phosphate bonded investment. Cobalt-chromium alloy, Regalloy shot 2, was cast and its shrinkage was calculated from the distance of the gap created between the die and the cast piece. In order to evaluate the effects of some manipulative variables on the cast shrinkage value of the alloy, mold temperature, kind of liquid for the investment and powder/liquid ratio were varied and shrinkage values were obtained. The results showed that the shrinkage value was not affected by the kind of liquid and the power/liquid ratio, but significantly decreased as the mold temperature raised up to 600 degree C. However, this effect was eliminated by means of substractive correction of the thermal expansion of the tungsten die. Thus, the casting shrinkage of the cobalt-chromium alloy, Regalloy shot 2, was calculated to be 2.08 +/- 0.02%. The casting shrinkage of pure gold was also measured with the same procedure. The casting shrinkage was calculated to be 1.73 +/- 0.04% and highly consistent with the value (1.74%) reported by R. Earnshaw. This suggested that the developed method was sufficiently effective for the accurate measurement of casting shrinkage.</p>","PeriodicalId":76541,"journal":{"name":"Shika rikogaku zasshi. However, durable adhesion between gold alloy and resin has not been achieved, and mechanical retention which possesses many disadvantages is indispensable to fix them with each other. In our previous report, we had prepared a 4-META adhesive opaque resin and made sure of its excellent adhesiveness to dental non-precious alloy. Here, we developed a new method to change gold alloy surface adhesive and studied the adhesion between 4-META opaque resin and the modified alloy surface. The treatment is consisted of heat treatment and acid pickling. 4-META opaque resin could adhere strongly to treated gold alloys and the adhesive bond strength was 250 Kg/cm2. Moreover, durability of the adhesion is excellent and the value did not decreased even after subjected to 2000 cycle of thermal cycling (4 degrees C and 60 degrees C) or long immersion in water at 37 degrees C.</p>","PeriodicalId":76541,"journal":{"name":"Shika rikogaku zasshi. This reason resulted from organic composition of cement liquid. Because of organic composition, reacted products showed a very low value of bending strength, and the connectivity and continuity between those products and unreacted control were not observed. We evaluated a little response effect of Wollastonite on carboxylate ion and identified the properties of cement in those products. In this paper, corrosion resistivity of Pd base ternary alloy amalgam was studied by comparison of reflective light intensity, surface roughness and weight change before and after corosion test in 0.1% Na2S, 0.1% lactive acid and 1% NaCl solution. The main results obtained are as follows: (1) Pd base ternary alloy amalgam showed much higher corrosion resistivity than that of on the market silver-tin-copper amalgam. (2) On the (60 Pd-40 Ag)-Sn alloy amalgam, corrosion resistivity was gradually improved by addition of Sn up to 10 wt% Sn, and the best corrosion resistivity was observed in (60 Pd-40 Ag)-10 Sn among Pd base alloy amalgam tested in this study. (3) On the (60 Pd-40 Ag)-Cu alloy amalgam, corrosion resistivity decreased gradually with increment of Cu content. (4) Weight of (60 Pd-40 Ag)-Sn alloy amalgam was a little increased after corrosion test in 0.1% Na2S solution, but that of (60 Pd-40 Ag)-Cu alloy amalgam showed a tendancy to decrease. (5) Corrosion of Pd base alloy amalgam was observed mainly in the matrix. Tarnish on the core was observed a little. So, this paper examined the measurement of rotational torque of the high speed dental instruments used for cutting works. For the measurement of torque of the dental instrument, we have measured the pushing load of the test but as used for cutting tools. But, in this paper, we attempted the new trials which are the measuring the tangential force of test bur rotated with the high speed velocity. And then, the kinetic energy values of rotational bur are obtained with using the value of the test bur's rotational torque. Retention force and their physical properties were closely related on resins for veneer crown, that is stronger and more tough resins have larger retention force. The opaque resins containing larger quantity of filler and hydrophilic monomers showed extra-ordinary young's modulus afteter drying. But young's modulus and strength decreased after immersed in water and thermal cycling and the retention force also decreased to the smallest level after immersed in water and thermal cycling. The hydrohobic opaque resins that have good coupling effect to filler showed large retention force even after immersed in water and thermal cycling in spite of large filler content. And the relations between the reduction of the rotational speed and the rotational loads on the handpieces are fundamentally investigated. As the results of these investigations, it was revealed that rotational forces of the toque type air turbine are very excellent and the rotational speed of the air bearing type air turbine is higher than that of other type handpieces. Experimental procedures are as follows. (a) Bonding strength between porcelain and alloys by pull out test (b) Expansion of alloys (c) Distribution of Ni, Co and Cr by EPMA (d) Macroscopic observation of fracture surface resulted by pull out test Following results were obtained 1) Pull out strength increased by addition of Co in all alloy systems. Pull out strength was lowest at 5 wt% Cr in Ni-Cr alloy system, at 15 wt% Cr in Ni-5 wt% Co-Cr alloy system, and at 20 wt% Cr in Ni-10 wt% Co-Cr alloy system. More addition of Cr increased the pull out strength. 2) The influence of alloying element on thermal expansion was not observed by addition of Cr and Co to Ni. 3) The thickness of the oxide film of alloys containing 5 wt% Cr was the largest, and it was remarkably decreased by more addition of Cr. 4) The fractography of porcelain showed a various patterns in relation to pull out strength. 5) At Ni-Cr-Co alloy surface oxide of porcelain side, Co concentration is slightly higher than Ni.</p>","PeriodicalId":76541,"journal":{"name":"Shika rikogaku zasshi. We have studied to improve the mechanical strength of self-cured acrylic resin by application of carbon fibers as reinforcement and simple methods which must be acceptable for technicians are proposed. A cloth type carbon fiber was the best reinforcement among studied carbon fibers such as chopped or mat. The chopped fibers were difficult to mix homogeneously with fluid resins and effectiveness of the reinforcement was low. Breaking often occurred at the interface between the reinforcement and resin in the cases of mat which gave defects to the test specimens. To prepare reinforced denture, the cloth was trimmed on the master cast after removal of wax and the prepreg was formed with the alginate impression on the cast by Palapress and the cloth.
