(1) The age-hardening, detected from the electrical resistance measurement and hardness test, increased with increasing indium contents in the Au-Pd-In ternary alloys, but was not responsible in a Au-Pd-base alloy. (2) Photomicrographs of the ternary alloys demonstrated the characteristic microstructures in the age-hardened state, but did not appear the intragranular precipitations in the as-casted and the solution-annealed state. A nodular reaction at the grain boundary was shown in the initial aging stage, subsequently the precipitations in the matrix resulted with increasing in hardness. The typical Widmannstätten's structure was developed with the over-aged stage. (3) The matrix phase in the Au-Pd-base ternary alloys containing indium was indexed by X-ray diffraction to a face-centered cubic structure. The lattice parameters were found within a=4.05 A to a=4.06 A, and then increased with indium contents. (4) The cause of the age-hardening has been implied during to the formation of intermetallic compounds, i.e. Pd-In system, but the structures can not been identified in the age-hardening state.
","PeriodicalId":76541,"journal":{"name":"Shika rikogaku zasshi. Many authors have written about the effect of the powder-liquid ratio, room temperature and humidity, but there are few reports on mixing technique. Consequently, we studied the influence of mixing time on the properties of the cement. Mixing time was 45 seconds, 90 seconds, 180 seconds, and 270 seconds. The results obtained were as follows. 1) The shorter the mixing time, the shorter the time to reach the maximum temperature and the higher the temperature. 2) When the mixing time was long, the setting time was prolonged. 3) Compressive strength appears the highest at the 90 seconds mixing time. In both cases, when mixing time was longer or shorter, compressive strength decreased. 4) Hardness showed the same tendency as compressive strength, and also the 90 seconds mixing time had best results. 5) As the mixing time increased, film thickness increased remarkably and was inadequate for the use of cementing.
","PeriodicalId":76541,"journal":{"name":"Shika rikogaku zasshi. If such the setting reaction on the zinc phosphate cement is right, there is no necessity that cement powder is zinc oxide clinker. In this paper magnesia clinker is substituted for zinc oxide, and the reaction products of set cement are examined by the same methods as having shown in previous paper. When commercial cement liquid is used for mixing with magnesia clinker, the reaction products become amorphous for effects of Al3+ in liquid. These are the same amorphous reaction products as precipitating in set zinc phosphate cement. From result in previous and this paper, it has been made sure that setting reaction of zinc phosphate cement is due to precipitation of amorphous aluminium and zinc (in liquid) phosphate.
","PeriodicalId":76541,"journal":{"name":"Shika rikogaku zasshi. [The effects of high copper amalgams upon L strain fibroblasts in vitro (author's transl)]. [高铜汞合金对L株体外成纤维细胞的影响[作者译]。

{"title":"[The effects of high copper amalgams upon L strain fibroblasts in vitro (author's transl)].","authors":"S Isomura","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

To investigate the cytotoxicity of three high copper amalgams (HA 1, HA 2 and HA 3) which are currently available in Japan, and compare with that of the conventional amalgams, i. e., fine cut, spherical and copper amalgams, a cell culture system with L strain fibroblasts was used. Results were assessed by cell multiplication rate calculated from cell nuclei counting and cell morphology. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Amalgam alloys of two of the high copper amalgams tested (HA 3 and HA 1) as well as two of the conventional amalgams, i. e., fine cut and spherical amalgams did not give adverse effects to the cells. However, the alloys of the other high copper amalgam, HA 2, and copper amalgam yielded intense cytotoxicity. 2. As to the triturated amalgams, two of the high copper amalgams (HA 3 and HA 1) showed a very similar effects to the cell to the fine cut and spherical amalgams. At three hours after trituration, depression of cell growth diminished in two of the high copper amalgams(HA 3 and HA 1). However, the other high copper amalgam, HA 2, yielded intense and persistent cytotoxicity even at 24 hours after after trituration. 3. Cell morphology of the experimental groups confirmed the above result of the rate of cell multiplication. 4. A similar biological effect to the results in several previous reports with three conventional amalgams in vitro was confirmed. It was discussed that difference of biological effects in vitro among the three high copper amalgams might be attributed to the alloy composition. It is considered that the present results will be able to lend suggestions to the use of the high copper amalgams.
","PeriodicalId":76541,"journal":{"name":"Shika rikogaku zasshi. But the chief objection, to use of these materials as restorative materials, is its lack of strength, particularly tensile and shear strength. And the materials to have strong bond strength have been studied. On the other hand, the bond strength along metal-ceramic interface have usually measured by a pull out test. At the same time, the objection of the pull out test are pointed out. So, the deformation of metal-ceramic composite materials by the pull out test were simulated to use the axi-symmetric finite element method. And shear stress distribution along the interface and the principal stress distribution in ceramic were calculated. The following results were obtained. (1) Shear stress along the interface and maximum principal stresses in ceramic and in metal decrease rapidly along the interface. (2) The stress concentration factor as the case of the alloy with high Young's modulus is smaller than that of the alloy with low Young's modulus. So, the former would be stronger about the pull out test. (3) Metal-ceramic interface length is not affected for shear stress concentration. If the specimen has more than the critical interface length, the initial crack in ceramic would be occurred at the same pull out force.
","PeriodicalId":76541,"journal":{"name":"Shika rikogaku zasshi. Mixtures of several polyfunctional monomers and a composite filler finely pulverized, prepared by polymerization of trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate in the presence of hydrophobic colloidal silica, were polymerized and their mechanical properties were studied. [The influence of surface treatments on non-precious metal-ceramics alloys (author's transl)]. [表面处理对非贵金属陶瓷合金的影响(作者译)]。

{"title":"[The influence of surface treatments on non-precious metal-ceramics alloys (author's transl)].","authors":"E Kawada","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"

In this study, the author attempted to find out the suitable methods of surface treatments for non-precious metal-ceramics alloys. Three Ni-Cr system alloys in the market, (Gemini II, Euro-ceram and Wiron S) were used. The shear bond strength was measured under the various conditions, varying the heating temperatures of pre-oxidation treatment and finishing methods of the metal surface. A specially designed apparatus which had been improved by the author, was used to measure the shear bod strength of the metal-ceramics. The following results were obtained. 1. The testing method improved was found better as a means of measuring the bond strength. Because the shear bond strength which was obtained by this testing method was hardly affected by the compressive force originating from porcelain contraction or the strength of alloys. 2. In the case of Gemini II and Euro-ceram, the influence of the finishing treatment on the properties was great. The coarser the surface roughness, the greater the value of the shear bond strength. 3. In the case of Wiron S, the influence of the pre-oxidation treatment was great. The higher the temperature of treatment, the greater the value of shear bond strength. 4. The optimum surface treatment of metal was obtained among three alloys respectively. The shear bond strength of Gemini II was greater than the others under any condition. In the case of Euro-ceram, the highest bond strength was obtained under the coarser surface condition regardless of the temperature of pre-oxidation treatment. In the case of Wiron S, the highest bond strength was obtained by the surface which was finished by the #600 emerypaper and the higher temperature of pre-oxidation treatment.
","PeriodicalId":76541,"journal":{"name":"Shika rikogaku zasshi.
