The following conclusions were drawn from the statistical analysis and the interpretation of the results: The mean value of extracted teeth per person was 1.65 and was lower in females (1.56) from males (1.78). Independently of the sex and the jaws (maxillamandible) the greater percentage (60.45%) of extractions was to posterior teeth. The extracted teeth were more in maxilla (55.58%). The more per cent extracted teeth, independently of the sex, were the maxillary central incisors (9.32%) and lateral maxillary incisors (8.87%) and the lower, the mandibular canines (3.15%). Caries and periodontal diseases were responsible for 83.27% of extracted teeth, independently the sex and the age. Caries was the major cause of extraction until 40 years old (79.26%) and after this age the periodontal disease was the major cause of extraction (43.47%).
","PeriodicalId":76279,"journal":{"name":"Odontostomatologike proodos","volume":"44 5","pages":"339-49"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13285164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the interfacial strength and microleakage pattern of paired light-cured restorations. Two small particle (SP), two pure hybrid (HB) and two microfilled materials (MF) were selected. Cylindrical molds were used to prepare double layer specimens for the groups SP-HB, SP-MF, HB-MF and the controls. The last group was comprised of double layer specimens respectively. All the samples were immersed in normal saline at 37 degrees C and divided in two series. The first series included samples immersed in normal saline for 24 h and accelerated aged for 1 h in saline at 37 degrees C plus 1000 times thermal cycling between 5 degrees-60 degrees C. These samples were sheared off at 0.005 inch/min cross-head speed. The second series was composed of the samples subjected to the some experimental conditions but tested for their interfacial microleakage pattern utilizing the silver nitrate technique. According to the results pairing SP-MF, SP-HB increases interfacial strength compared to MF-MF, and HB-HB. The combination of HB-MF results in no statistical significance from MF-MF or HB-HB. Minimal leakage was detected in some cases but did not correlate to bond strength values.
","PeriodicalId":76279,"journal":{"name":"Odontostomatologike proodos","volume":"44 4","pages":"255-61"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13284593","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The material consisted of 22 skulls in which 33 edentulous maxillary areas were found. Direct anatomical measurements were performed and measurements on periapical radiographs were made. The most important findings can be summarized as follows: 1. The mean distance from the alveolar crest to the floor of the sinus in locations corresponding to the 1st and 2nd molars and the 2nd bicuspid was 5.09 mm, 5.16 m.m. and 6.67 m.m. respectively. 2. Comparison of the anatomical measurements to those made on the radiographs proved that there are some differences but not statistically significant. These differences range between 0 to 5.5 m.m. for the 2nd bicuspid location, while for the 1st and 2nd molar locations they range between 0 to 2 mm.
","PeriodicalId":76279,"journal":{"name":"Odontostomatologike proodos","volume":"44 4","pages":"269-74"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13284595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although posterior composites have evolved considerably, both clinical studies and experience have confirmed that several problems still remain concerning their clinical properties and the relative complexity of handling the material. In order to resolve these problems, two different manufacturers have introduced composite resin systems for the fabrication of direct or indirect resin inlays and onlays which are cemented into the acid-etched preparation with a modified composite resin. Both systems are based on the same concept: the polymerization of the resin takes place out of the mouth in a special oven where a specific heat-curing procedure is followed. There is an essential difference between the two systems. When the direct resin system is used, the inlay is formed and partly light-cured into the tooth preparation, then it is removed for further polymerization. When the indirect system is used the procedure takes place in the lab where the inlay is formed on the die. This article presents both systems, the step-by-step procedure that has been followed in several clinical cases as well as their advantages and disadvantages.
","PeriodicalId":76279,"journal":{"name":"Odontostomatologike proodos","volume":"44 4","pages":"289-97"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13284597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the thermal diffusivity of three types of dental cements, were measured. Thermal diffusivity was determined by the following method. Two thermo-couples were used and connected to a chart record, the first was embedded in the cylindrical block of the cement specimen and the other in a mixing of ice and water (reference thermocouple). All them were set in a apparatus consisting of a double cooling bath. Calculation of thermal diffusivity were based on the curve provided of the record during cooling of the cement and a theoretical mathematic model. Values were ranged from 2,985 to 3,934 cm2.sec-1. ZOE cement exhibited the highest value, the glass-ionomers the lowest and the poly-carboxylates were average. The results showed that the thermal diffusivity of the cements is dependent from the type of the cement but the differences between them were not statistically significant. Additionally, the values obtained were about the same as the dentin, so the dental cements may consider as good thermal insulators.
","PeriodicalId":76279,"journal":{"name":"Odontostomatologike proodos","volume":"44 4","pages":"263-7"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13284594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
