Subjects were between the ages of 16 and 29 years, white, unmarried, and gravida one. The Consistency Chance and Ability Inventory, a self-report questionnaire, was completed by each subject. The data show a relationship between a woman's use of birth control and her perception of her chance and ability of conceiving. Few studies have examined the effects of caffeine on reproductive outcomes in humans. While some retrospective studies have found an association between high caffeine intake and fetal death, stillbirth, premature birth, and birth defects, others have not. Within a few months, every nurse in the unit, in addition to those newly recruited, elected to work the alternative schedule. The project was evaluated at 12 and 18 months, with encouraging results. Since patients with Eisenmenger's syndrome generally survive until the fourth decade, some patients with this disease process will become pregnant. A discussion of cardiovascular changes that occur during pregnancy is presented with a description of the manifestations of Eisenmenger's syndrome.
