The purpose of this investigation was to determined the retentive characteristics of Pt-Co magnet. The break away force between the magnet and XM27 stainless steel keeper were measured. The retention of phi 4x 1.5 mm Pt-Co magnet was 49 g. This retention could be increased to 172 g by using stainless steel cup type yoke. These retention were rather small, but if 3 or more couples of attachments or larger Pt-Co magnet attachment were fixed in denture, the retention level approach that of clasp or mechanical precision attachments.
","PeriodicalId":75958,"journal":{"name":"Iyo Kizai Kenkyujo hokoku. The system consists of 16 temperature sensors and a data logger with a memory card (RAM card). The 15 temperature sensors were arranged in line with a separation of 6 cm on a flat cable which was placed between the bed sheet and the mattress in such a manner that it crossed the bed at the level of the breast. 15 temperatures on the bed and the room temperature were stored in a RAM card at interval from 30 seconds to 30 minutes. The memory card can store 504 successive data. The stored data were transferred into a micro computer. It was shown that posture changes and the body movements during sleep, could be recognised from the changes in the temperature profile, and these changes were well visualized by a three-dimensional display of the successive temperature profile on the bed.
","PeriodicalId":75958,"journal":{"name":"Iyo Kizai Kenkyujo hokoku. Although different parameters such as body activity, QT interval, respiration rate, body temperature are used to presume metabolic demand, it is suspected that no single parameter can provide accurate estimate of metabolic demand, and hence rate responsive pacemaker by combined parameters is proposed. This study is aimed to investigate physiological parameters during exercise so as to obtain reliable pacing control algorithm. Twenty healthy volunteers were assessed by a traded treadmill exercise according to the Bruce protocol, and hart rate, QT interval, body temperatures (forehead deep body temperature, rectal, tympanic, oral and axillary temperatures) and respiration rate were monitored. The results showed that correlation coefficient between heart rate and QT interval was 0.979, and that between hart rate and respiration rate was 0.969. Hysteresis was observed when these parameters were plotted against hart rate through a whole exercise protocol.
","PeriodicalId":75958,"journal":{"name":"Iyo Kizai Kenkyujo hokoku. ECG from the pacemaker implanted patients in the bathtub with tap water was recorded through three silver/silver chloride electrodes (4 x 4 cm) fitted on the inside wall of bathtub. Electric signal was connected to the isolated amplifier and recorded on the strip chart recorder. Contrast to the conventional method for recording standard ECG, bathtub ECG does not require body surface electrodes and is recorded at patients home. Although the amplitude of bathtub ECG was reduced approximately to a quarter of standard ECG, cardiac arrhythmia can be easily interpreted by bathtub ECG. In patients with pacemaker system, the amplitude of the pacing pulse recorded by bathtub ECG was much larger than that of QRS complex recorded by standard ECG. Therefore, we conclude that bathtub ECG would be a suitable method to follow up patients with pacemaker system.
","PeriodicalId":75958,"journal":{"name":"Iyo Kizai Kenkyujo hokoku. Films of three commercially available medical polyurethanes consisting of diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) (Biomer, Cardiothane and TM-3) and an experimental segmented polyurethane based on hydrogenated MDI (HMDI) were immersed in phosphate buffer or HEPES buffer containing lithium chloride at pH 7.4 at 70 degrees C for up to one year. Samples were subjected to ATR-FTIR measurement, tensile testing and viscosity measurement. Stability to hydrolytic degradation increased in the order: HMDI, TM-3, Biomer and Cardiothane. This ranking was consistent with that obtained in vivo. The results suggest that an in vitro model experiment is helpful for understanding and predicting degradation performance of polyurethanes in vivo.
","PeriodicalId":75958,"journal":{"name":"Iyo Kizai Kenkyujo hokoku.
