The discipline of emergency care is a new interdisciplinary entity which is becoming part of basic medical education. In undergraduate training it forms a problem oriented interdisciplinary complex with the central role of the teacher--specialist in anaesthesiology and resuscitation. The author discusses the concept of teaching at the Faculty of General Medicine, Charles University, Prague which foresees two stages of training in emergency care, the basic stage in the 3rd 5th year and the stage of practical training in the 6th year devoted mainly to problems of primary emergency care. She submits the proposal of a graduate course for extending basic skills of primary emergency care during the early postgraduate period and wants to take advantage of the increasing interest of students in the training of emergency care within the framework of methodical innovations.
","PeriodicalId":75696,"journal":{"name":"Ceskoslovenske zdravotnictvi","volume":"38 3","pages":"115-9"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13495973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On account of these diseases in the course of the calendar year 11.7% of the employees were unable to work and these diseases accounted for 19.5% of the sickness days. The largest number of work incapacities was in March and November. The mean period of work incapacity was 21.4 days. The shortest work incapacity was recorded in patients suffering from gout (13.2 days) and the longest one in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (125.4 days). The most frequent cause of work incapacity was back pain (62.2%), extraarticular rheumatism (17.4%) and osteoarthritis of the joints of the extremities (7.2%). Two hundred-sixty-four patients had in-patient treatment (9%). The greatest proportion of patients were hospitalized on account of back pain (54.9%). The mean period of hospitalization was 17.3 days. Between different factory medical officers relatively great differences in the number and length of granted work incapacity were found. The investigation revealed the importance of diseases of the locomotor system in the investigated shoe factory and the need to investigate the influence of the working environment and occupation on clinical manifestations of affections of the locomotor system.
","PeriodicalId":75696,"journal":{"name":"Ceskoslovenske zdravotnictvi","volume":"38 3","pages":"141-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13295019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They give an account of a pilot study on the subject of Health for All which was implemented in the West Bohemian region at the end of 1988; 487 subjects, a representative sample, were interviewed. The authors recommend a nation-wide sociological survey to obtain an idea to what extent people are informed in the programme Health for All and to what extent they participate in it. This research should be periodically repeated and given wide publicity. It would promote the implementation of strategic procedures to achieve Health for All and would be an expedient supplement of the existing health information system.
","PeriodicalId":75696,"journal":{"name":"Ceskoslovenske zdravotnictvi","volume":"38 3","pages":"107-14"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13495972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Disorders of the sense organs (eyesight and hearing) were significantly more frequent in subjects of advanced age than in early old age. There were no sexual differences in their incidence. The poorer health status of women is consistent with more frequently impaired locomotor activity, helplessness and lack of self-sufficiency, as compared with men. These old people (in particular women of advanced age) require assistance of another person and more frequent visits of health workers in their homes. With advancing age the number of persons using some health appliance increases. More than half the women of advanced age were thus affected. The main task as regards the care of old people is to prevent dependence, lack of self-sufficiency and a permanent stay in an institution. Therapeutic and preventive care provided to old people by the health community doctors should pursue this aim.
","PeriodicalId":75696,"journal":{"name":"Ceskoslovenske zdravotnictvi","volume":"38 3","pages":"127-34"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13495945","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of medical services was significantly higher in the older persons. Complete satisfaction with the standard and availability of medical care was recorded only in 25% junior and 60% senior respondents. 22% of the respondents, mainly the younger ones, provide their own treatment. As to drugs which are available without prescription, analgesics are required most, followed by medicines used in case of a cold or cough. Women buy drugs and medicines more frequently than men. Expenditure on drugs varies between 5 and 50 Kcs per month. Drugs prescribed by doctors are taken by 84% of the junior and 87% of the senior patients. It is of interest that 69% of the respondents report that they keep left over drugs, while 31% of the patients discard them. From the investigation it is obvious that there are major shortcomings in the knowledge, attitudes and action of the population in relation to drugs. It is important to increase in this respect health educational efforts, but also the cooperation of doctors, pharmacists and patients to improve pharmacotherapy.
","PeriodicalId":75696,"journal":{"name":"Ceskoslovenske zdravotnictvi","volume":"38 3","pages":"120-6"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13495944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
