After a preliminary analysis of publications of the World Health Organization (in particular publications of the Regional Office for Europe after 1986), the authors draw attention to the fact that in the documents on Health for All tasks of health education and sociological research are emphasized. They give an account of a pilot study on the subject of Health for All which was implemented in the West Bohemian region at the end of 1988; 487 subjects, a representative sample, were interviewed. The authors recommend a nation-wide sociological survey to obtain an idea to what extent people are informed in the programme Health for All and to what extent they participate in it. This research should be periodically repeated and given wide publicity. It would promote the implementation of strategic procedures to achieve Health for All and would be an expedient supplement of the existing health information system.
