Growth and liveweight in goats and sheep at Elangata Wuas and the factors influencing them.","authors":"R T Wilson, C Peacock, A R Sayers","doi":"","DOIUrl":"","url":null,"abstract":"<p><p>In 1101 goats and 547 sheep kept under ranch conditions the liveweight development was measured and compared between their 10th and 550th day of life. Consideration was given to factors such as sex, parity, birth type, season of birth, and flock. Post-partum weights of the dams are given and analysed for the same variables. Management of the flocks is the proximate factor in growth rates and liveweight, but almost all other variables also have significant effects on the weight-for-age. Management is also responsible for the biggest differences in weights in post-partum females, while season had a greater effect on this factor in sheep than in goats.</p>","PeriodicalId":75586,"journal":{"name":"Beitrage zur tropischen Landwirtschaft und Veterinarmedizin","volume":"21 2","pages":"191-8"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1983-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"17681252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The daily precipitation and the shading are most influential for both diseases. There are marked differences in the attacks between the rainy season (highest attacks) and dry season (decreased attacks). Lack of shading increases the susceptibility of the plants to the eye spot disease. Under the conditions in Cuba, unshaded plantations exhibited an increased occurrence of anthracnosis. In order to predict the occurrence of anthracnosis, it is necessary to know the seasonal course of the sporulation capacity of the agent on the branches, for the eye spot disease to know the course of attacks on the leaves. The possibilities are discussed of controlling the two diseases.</p>","PeriodicalId":75586,"journal":{"name":"Beitrage zur tropischen Landwirtschaft und Veterinarmedizin","volume":"20 2","pages":"183-93"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1982-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"18141898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus it requires the full state sovereignty and economic independence of the developing countries, and the creation of such social conditions which enable the further extension and better utilization of the fertilizer capacities as well as the optimum fertilizer application. In unprocessed cauliflower the prescribed tolerance level for carbaryl residues of 5 ppm was only reached on the sixth day, in processed cauliflower on the third day after application.
