The results were comparatively estimated with those obtained in two groups of young people of the same age (control group), separately immunized with two components of the tri-vaccine: fractionated smallpox vaccine and tetanus toxoid, following-up the humoral response to the two vaccine components. It was find that, at the end of the surveillance period, similar results were obtained for the testing group and control group, the antibody titers (in geometric mean) presenting very close values: 1/1,140,463 for the testing group, and 1/1,053,583 for the control group against vaccinia component, and 1/1,86,880,586 for the testing group and 1/79,900,431 for the control group, against the tetanus component. Were investigated 134 CSF from purulent meningitis, out of which 37 were of probable pneumococcal etiology, on the basis of bacterioscopic examination, 26 of other etiology and 71 of unknown etiology. The results obtained showed 28 (75.7%) positive reactions in the fluids from probably pneumococcal meningitides on the basis of the positive bacterioscopic examination. The specificity of the reactions is demonstrated by the negative reactions with the fluids from meningitides of other etiology, as well as by the concordance between the antigen serotype from the liquid and that of the isolated S. pneumoniae strain. For a good test sensitivity could argue the positive reactions obtained with 6 CSF from meningitides of unknown etiology.</p>","PeriodicalId":75543,"journal":{"name":"Archives roumaines de pathologie experimentales et de microbiologie","volume":"48 1","pages":"7-12"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13942240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the experimental model used all the animals evolved normally presenting some transient blood modifications which occurred after administration of comparatively much higher doses than those usually administered in man. There were not noticed significant macroscopical and microscopical modifications at the level of the organs sampled from mice. The pregnant female mice treated along one month with doses, proportionally 1000 times higher than those used in human therapy, presented some pathological aspects, which disappeared on cessation of therapy with the biological. These animals were not affected by abortions and the experiment proved the absence of some teratogenic effects connected to polidin administration.
